im 40 years old a pretty decent drummer. and have a pretty vast knowledge of music. and i cant think of a better dummer than this guy. he makes it look easy. serious question is there really a better drummer? there are more drummers that bring inspiration to people than Esterpario. there are some real legends in the drumming world. but can anyone do what this guy does i havent seen it. i ask myself can El Estepario do what anyone else can. and i have to say yes!!!
There are some legendary drummers and they are all incredible musicians. This guy pretty much came from no where and hit this level pretty much on his own. I have to say that is an incredible feat since most legends had someone to mentor them. Who knows where he goes from here. It won’t be easy to still learn and become even better. It seems like he has the motivation and chip on his shoulder. Should be a fun ride to see what happens next. Super cool that you are a drummer too. My son is a drummer and an outstanding one too. Drummers just have different brains and can do so many more things easier than the rest of us.

There are amazing drummer's out there, no doubt about that. Very passionate drummer's like Chad, Neil when he was alive, heck.. you could probably form a quick list of 2 dozen drummer's in the world today and they would all be top tier of the Drumming World.
But no one, and I mean no one, can do what Jorge Garrido can do. He is just gifted and in another dimension of drumming. The guy is an octopus with completely independent limbs. He's just very gifted and practices alot.
Well you could look among the drummers that EES idolizes. For example, I remember him saying that Thomas Lang is unreachable.
He's indeed not a show-off. His drumming is what I would call a non-verbal humble-brag. Him pointing at his tattoo in the end is a tribute to the song, since the tattoo shows the primary scenery from the official video for Feel Good Inc. We can hence definitely conclude EES loves this song and visibly enjoyed playing his drum interpretation. I've loved this song since the very moment it first came out and only appreciated it more and more as time moved along and imho EES absolutely nailed the essence of the song, all while massively overplaying it!
I love this song too and he made it even more special. I like the way you described it as his drumming is the humble brag.
He also makes it clear that his skills are the result of years of dedication and hard work .

Im Spanish and I really enjoy the reactions that many people make about El Estepario, it makes me feel proud.´A great reaction from your side, this video he shows that besides being able to play fast, he has a brutal feeling and this not only gives you all the hours he practices, he is showing that he enjoys it. It's not just his technique but creativity and musicality. He is playing a lot of different styles and he finds a tasty complex groove that blows my mind. He would be a great drum teacher for other drummers - if they are half way able to get his technical skills.

Jorges face shows he is in the zone. Anyone who really plays knows what I mean. Nothing else exists in that moment.
He does look so focused.
He’s like a very skilled MMA fighter who can “play” from either stance. I believe he’s right-handed, but he can switch to open-handed whenever needed. He really takes the concept of “limb independence” to a whole new level.
It takes practice, but in the end, it takes Passion to play this Dude.
Majority of people could practise 24 hours a day your entire life and never get to his level...

You are right about that but working hard can get you close.
Not a drummer, but am a classical pianist. You are completely right about practicing being other than practice. I could sit for hours '"practicing '"and at the end, it would feel as if only an hour had passed. For me, time stands still because my focus is on exploring various yet subtle ways of performing the composition, AND that this '"practice"' is completely "'performance stress "' free. When you have a flow time stands still. If the practice is filled with anxious stops and starts, time expands exponentially thereby making it "'practice"'.
Why do I watch drumming?
Because a drummer's various arrangements are expressed through it's musicality, I enjoy those subtle changes immensely.

Another great reaction video. What I love about this channel is that you really dive deep into the details. I love to watch these crazy drum videos from Estepario, Larnell Lewis etc. But I don’t play any instrument myself. And a lot of the technical details are lost to me and I miss a lot of cool things. So these videos help me to appreciate the artistry even more. You mentioned the one handed drumming. I would love to see a reaction to that. He has a long compilation video of the one handed shorts. It’s truly amazing. And the creativity is next level in those. He for example uses a lot of the double base to cover the missing toms and lack of the other hand.

@bobcieslinski Ur more than welcome! Funny, my mom got me into drums as she played the bass drum in marching band in the 60s, which she would kick my arse for saying. It was just so fun, as when I could barely hold a beat early on, she was still so supportive! We just loved rythm! Things got better, and my band teacher let me play a couple of songs with his real band at a local ski center. I was so nervous, but he had the same caring coaching persona I believe you have! I really do appreciate teachers and all that you go through to find appreciative students! Keep it up! 😀

He’s incredible. He keeps blowing me away.
I’m not sure but it seems his sticks are a bit longer than normal, but that could be wrong. He doesn’t have a really large kit but uses it well. That sweep in the snare was interesting, pretty innovative. A few of those fills almost seemed like he was going to get out of time but then he was right back in rhythm. His happy face reminds me of that song “play on me drums all day”
Yeah I can hear that song while watching him. I think because he is using a GoPro it makes his video look different. That could be the long stick look you are seeing.

I did watch that after the first video i reacted to. I had to find out more about him. I love this guy just the way he talks and his approach to everything. It’s no wonder he is playing at this level.
i think the most impressive thing for me on this cover is the fact he can put a stick down and pick up the tambourine without making a sound on a mic'ed up kit....
That’s a great point. His finesse is off the charts. It’s nothing for him to control all four limbs completely independent of each other. He’s a special talent.

Yep some people are like that and it pushes them to another level.
I know I commented before, about how he'd be a drum majors wet dream, but my god. His consistency with that tambourine is out of this world. Stick height, accents, crescendos, doesn't matter. He's just so fucking consistent. The dude is a robot in mind. I've been playing for 17 years, I don't know if I should quit or practice harder lol. (I'll never quit, but life lol. Can't practice as much any more)
It’s so hard to continue to find the time. I totally get it. It’s cool that you play and never ever give it up totally. Just accept the fact that you only have so much time and just do what you can.

As someone who did DCI i appreciate the acknowledgement. Many rock drummers ie cad sexton from 311 trace their roots to DCI. With that said this dude trancends the instrument although he needs to get more jazz influence to learn how to play a bit behind the beat instead on top of it, sometimes feels rushed but again hes the definition of a genius

you should have seen him the other day, deconstructing Rush´s Tom Sawyer. he never ever listened to it before, but in about hours he got it, and even did his thing. it was so much fun watching him trying, and finally got it. it was live on twitch. u need to see his live streams, where he interacts with audience. u might get him to answer to your questions or suggestions. hes just amazing. to me hes currently best drummer of our time, and you know what? hes so humble...
I love that about him that he is so humble with that much talent. I love watching and listening to him because of that.

He's amazing right? He's got that creativity and musicality that makes every song he covers into something better regardless of the style. What a showman! On this song, he's using the dualist pedal which most drummers have conceded defeat with. So cool, but that's what discipline, 8 hours practice a day plus all the physical workouts, etc., can accomplish. You mentioned fun and when he was in an interview he said that's one of the most important aspect of improving your craft. You MUST have fun!

I'm a subscriber to the thought process of doing what you love and it won't feel like work, as far as music goes. I probably played guitar for 6 hours a day for 13 years straight. It wasn't "practice' per se, because I was inspired and I was grateful for the abilities, that I had and just being able to be inspired by music/or sometimes by human interaction and not music. So that fueled the drive to play, which inadvertently, is a natural form of practice or training.
I played along to all my favorite rock songs, my favorite metal tracks, all the Rush songs, classical songs, video game soundtracks, television theme songs...whatever made me "feel". I did it for guitar and then in the last 10 years, I've done it for Bass guitar (but right handed, whereas, I am a left handed guitarist). Learning bass, the "opposite way" just seemed like a good idea. My thought process there was that I already put in the hours to learn the theory/the ear training and the knowledge of a fretboard, and the only thing that I would have to overcome was the physical barrier - which, I told myself that it didn't exist. Mind over matter.
It's going pretty good. I'm having fun. The whole process has made me a better keyboardist and I hear "more" than I did before, since, I never paid attention to the bass side of music and now I can better appreciate a composition.

FYI the double bass parts are actually done with one foot on a “single-double” pedal where it’s a normal pedal but you can hit a switch and make it hit twice as many notes with one foot it’s wild. Also in the one breakdown part with the hi-hat work, his left foot moves over to a pedal/cowbell thing where he holds a different beat so each limb is doing something completely independently at once 😅 he’s amazing!

those snare rolls you're talking about at around 6:00 are actually not at all similar to what drum corps do. what he's doing is colloquially referred to as "gravity blasts" and it's a fairly recent phenomenon. first guy i saw do it was Johnny Rabb. it's a way to do a very convincing analog for a single stroke roll (RLRL RLRL) but with only one hand (it's not possible to do this type of roll at the volume he would do a normal single stroke roll at). when he does it here in the video (it's at 5:34, to be exact) he's trading hands back and forth between the two snare drums (LLLL RRRR). the reason this thing is so different - and FAST - is that on a single stroke you get two hits of the snare head. this happens because on the down-half of the stroke, the stick actually does a rimshot. it hits the head and rim at the same time. the trick is to actually keep going beyond a normal rimshot, and turn the spot where the rim meets the stick into the fulcrum. your hand goes BELOW the plane of the rim, forcing the tip-end of the stick upward. then, on the up-half of the stroke you just basically transfer the fulcum to the point between your thumb and index fingers while lifting the bottom of the stick back up, which forces the tip back downward because the majority of the stick's weight just went all the to the tip again. 2 strikes 1 stroke. there are other methods to achieve the same result, but none are as fast as gravity blasts. i honestly wish Buddy Rich were still around to give us his thoughts on them, cuz the purists call it cheating. I can see the logic too, as anyone can learn to do it in relatively short order, whereas something like the Moeller technique can take half a decade or more to develop properly.
also, to be fair, a contemporary drum corp MIGHT do something like this for a solo, but they're usually in the purist camp, and this technique doesn't fall into standard drum or percussion training. just clearing all that up because OCD.

BTW, I’ve had Eargasm ear plugs for several years. I wear them when riding my motorcycle to reduce wind noise and I can highly recommend them. They are lightweight, comfortable to wear for hours, and significantly reduce outside noise!

@@bobcieslinski I have an older BMW now, a 2006 K1200GT which is a sport touring bike. Had to spend around $1300 to get the coils changed, as BMW requires the entire radiator system to be removed, and then to refill it takes a vacuum suction method. I'm mechanically inclined but didn't want to tackle it. I've had around 5 different bikes since I moved to Vegas, lol. My previous was a nice Triumph Thunderbird, but I decided to get a bit more power and cruise control from the BMW. Problem is half the year here is too hot to ride, and the other half is too cold. In reality, there are about 4 nice riding months per year, but in summer it is just too hot. Can't take 110 air temp and 140 pavement temps.
@@bobcieslinski What about you? I would think there would be many nice roads to cruise around in Penn. And far less crazy traffic than in the city here where accidents are a daily routine :(
@@guygourley2411 that’s a nice bike. My son and I have looked at the BMW sport touring bikes along with the triumph mine. I almost bought a triumph trident at one point. The first bike I got to learn on was an old 1996 Honda Rebel 250. It was fun but after the first season was very underpowered. I ended up buying a Harley Softail Standard last summer. Still learning and working on things. My uncle who lived in Vegas thought I was nuts for starting. He would tell me about all of the accidents he was seeing in Vegas. At one point last year my son wanted to celebrate turning 21 by renting bikes and riding through red rock. We never made it a few things got in the way with work with him. He is mechanically inclined and studying to be a mechanical engineer. I’m not mechanically inclined at all. 😂
@@bobcieslinski As you know, a 250 is underpowered for the roads here. I've ridden a Honda CBR600RR, and although plenty of power, it vibrates way too much for me, not to mention the sport seating style. A Harley should suit you fine. There are a lot of pretty decent videos regarding safe riding, but to me there are three main things. One, be able to handle your bike a very slow speeds, like when in parking lot. Two, be aware of everyone else and ride like you are invisible. Three, just don't speed. Nice slow turns will let you go a long time with a fall, while pushing the bike in the turns to go faster, or just going faster down the road, will increase the chances of an accident. Oh, and always wear a helmet, preferably a full faced one. Had a few people tell me when they were in an accident the full faced helmet let them keep their chin and teeth.
Although there are a lot of accidents in Vegas, I always feel if a person rides defensively and at a decent pace, their odds of getting in an accident go way down. But until you get out on an open road, just looking around at the scenery can be a bad thing. Learn to quickly scan then refocus on the road, or pull over, get out the camera, and take some safe scenic photos!

@@bobcieslinski Tbh Bob I don’t play an instrument but I love people who can especially EES 🥁 , I just like to watch his (and others) all the way through without any interruptions and then at the end of it the person watching along talks about all the points he/she would like to discuss 🙂 with the viewer(s). Stopping a video for what seems like every 30 seconds to explain something just kills it for me personally!!! I don’t believe I am the only one who thinks like this???
@@rojalesgary7355 I gotcha. Totally understand. If I waited and did everything at the end then whatever I was talking about there would be no follow up example. So that’s why I do it. I explain it and then you see or hear it. I would also not remember everything if I waited to the end. Thanks for watching anyway!

Some people don’t want to play in bands and just want to do their own thing that makes them happy. He seems like he is totally happy just making music and pushing himself to become better at his craft.

El Estepario Siberiano doesn't believe in talent. He took up practising drums not to reach any particular level or to be in a band: just to prove that he could make himself better than he was.
He reveals this in one of his videos. He came out of nowhere, because it was never about showing off or even having a skill to market. It was just his hobby to de-stress.
I saw his 1 mil video and I love the way he says things. He is inspirational and backs up something I try to tell my students. That hard work is so important. You can have all of thr talent in the world but without the work you won’t be great.

its so refreshing for me, in my view he's like a young Danny Carey skill wise, I am so happy to be just a few years older than this guy and witness this. For a long time I thought rock music was actually dead and only garbage will be produced with the very rare diamond in the rough, but more and more things are happening in the scene and EES is a blessing. I don't view him as a drummer, rather as a very skilled percussionist.
