This number stands up to the test of time every single time. Ann Miller was phenomenal.
And with all that furniture!
Iconic
Quo
She had pneumonia
One of the greatest dancers of the 20th century and what legs.
Ann is a legend and the idol of every little girl who took tap dancing class. ❤❤❤
I mean. Jesus. I have watched this movie a million times, but this is my favorite part. She is a BEAST.
My daughter used to be excellent at tap and ironically my dad was in Kiss me Kate in Abingdon when I was a youngish child !
She has always been an Excellent Dancer. They don't make em like Ann anymore!
I watched “Kiss Me Kate” a few days ago for the umpteenth time. All I can say is - this is one of my fav MGM musicals. Everyone plays their role, but Ann Miller brings the heat and makes the movie sparkle!
This is Ann at her absolute best but her dancing was always so carefree :)
My tongue is always on the floor whenever I see this :) :) :)
@@alworkedup She always made it look so damn easy!
Ann Miller at her absolute finest; all throughout the move.
Nobody could tap dance like Ann Miller!
Ann Miller. Iconic. Legendary. I wish we could have talent like that now. What showmanship.
everybody who think musicals and specially tap-dance scenes are boring/lousy... you have no idea how hard/difficult it is to do tap dancing. Love this movie, love Ann Miller... and recently saw it for the first time in 3D on blu... boah.. its completely a new experience.
This film - "Kiss Me, Kate" - is terrific fun from start to finish, but this is my favorite part. If you haven't seen it, you should! Really a great classic musical comedy.
R. Scougal I agree. It should be rated 4 stars all over the place but typically only gets 3.5. That's just baloney. It and Silk Stockings are two of the best that are underrated. Kiss Me Kate is better than Meet Me in St. Louis, The Music Man, etc.
@@robertwiegman1 I agree with you ... this song and Tom, Dick or Harry is also fantastic
I think unless you have taken tap lessons, its difficult to imagine the amount of crazy talent here!
Annie might be the best ever!
Agreed....
I think it’s too difficult regardless of whether you have taken tap lessons...she is incredible...
it's more impressive when you realize for some of her numbers she had to wear a corset
I was just thinking that. Because I took tap too
Ann Miller is one hot dancer. Call the firefighters.
I saw this in 3-d about 30 years ago. You had to duck when Ann Miller threw things at the screen. The best part was when she was dancing I front of the triple mirror.
Flawless talent from Ann Miller, Kathryn Grayson, Howard Keel. Keenan Wynn, with the glorious spoof by Cole Porter " The Taming of the Shrew". How could it be better? Matchless dance sequeneces with Bob Fosse and Hermes Pan and the Daliesque scenes and costumes made this the best Broaway musical ever (except for Oklahoma) Pirates of Penzance, an equally glorious musical, went from Central Park to Hollywood.
My grandma always hated that they never showed her feet at 3:00. She said at her live performances she was known for moving her feet that fast and moving slowly and willowy above the waist at the same time, and it was a shame they didn't do a full body shot of that there!
I think everytime the same when I see that scene. I want see the her feet/shoes
That's why she dances on the furniture.
I think one reason they didn't do a full body shot at 3.00 is because MGM knew they were making one of the first films shot in 3-D and so that were trying to have Ann seem as though she was dancing right into the camera and right into the audience hence the facial close up. I saw the film in 3-D in a movie theatre and it did seem that she was heading right into your lap with her fan at this part of the number starting at 3:00. It was awesome. However, without the 3-D version it doesn't make any sense to not show her feet.
I agree. They should have shown the full body shot.
Well you also have to realize that no one wanted to see sweaty feet. It was too darn hot for them to show her tapdancing skills that close.
This always cheers me up when I feel depressed! Love Ann to pieces!
This movie and On the Town are some of my favorite Ann Miller performances
Easter Parade is also very good. Ann Miller was a true talent.
She was. But never really got the stardom that some of the others did at the time.
Saw Ann Miller in a stage version of Hello Dolly...she was 😃 great... She walked so fast that sparks flew from her heels
I saw Kiss Me Kate in a theatre a while ago and the audience absolutely HOWLED and YELLED when this was over :) :) :)
I think Kiss Me Kate is at the top of movie musicals. Doesn't run out of steam like so many other movies. Cole Porter wrote a thoroughly entertaining play and Howard Keel did an excellent job carrying the movie. This and Silk Stockings are underrated.
Not to mention Shakespeare!!
Ann Miller's best number of her whole career IMO!
***** Who me? Wow thanks! ☺💖
***** Massachusetts in the US.
+Luffy Uchiha ☺
OH YEAH! But how about ON THE TOWN? :)
Agreed.
For the hundreth time, TOO INCREDIBLE!!
Admiration - I have no other words.
アン・ミラーのダンスは男性的な力強さを感じる。美しさと力強さのバランスが素晴らしい。
I saw this movie in its original 3-D format and this number made great use of the medium. Brava Ann Miller and her machine-gun taps!!
It's interesting to know that when she was 13 she became a showgirl at a jazz bar due to the fact she looked older than her age (she said she was 18). She's so tantalising to watch, you can see her experience and talent shine through. One hot momma indeed.
ANN MILLER = only one word is appropriate here.... and its "WOW"
She is too darn hot!!!
You HAVE to see this in 3-D. Suddenly it will make SO MUCH SENSE.
One of my favorite performances of all time! I Love this movie so much I watch it every year at least twice.
I can’t believe it! 🤩 She’s amazing!
This was actually filmed in 3D. Not that cheesy red-green 3D like Bwana-Devil, but polarization separation, like in the film "Gravity". You cannot get that on (most) TVs. The bit where Ann is dancing on the coffee table in front of three mirrors has to be seen in 3D to be appreciated. Also, where she throws a garter directly at the camera. The whole film is full of bits, like fire breathers and jugglers, that need to be seen in 3D to be appreciated.
Because it was filmed using polarization separation, either reel, left or right, makes a perfectly good 2D reel.
I had the good fortune to see it in 3D once at A theater in NYC. It was so great!
@@movieswithsammykitty I saw it in 3-D at the Castro in San Francisco about 20 years ago. This number was unbelievable.
This woman was talented!
500 taps per minute! That’s some serious record
qué magnífica bailarina....en América sí que eran showomen, lo hacían todo y todo bien, o mejor dicho todo excelente; actriz, cantante y bailarina.....puro arte!!!. ahora ya no se ve,....ya no!
Awesome, mind blowing, absolutely amazing i wanted to dance like that when i was 6 years old!
This is too darn amazing
I love how this scene starts off with Lili and Cole thinking she's just some chorus girl with minimal / no talent and then she blows them away. Even Lili admits she's great.
Cole would have preferred chorus boy.
Sizzling. A wonderful performer indeed.
and this is why I love Ann Miller a true talent I love that color
Stars have a period where they look the most iconic with their persona, this is the most Ann Millerish I've EVER seen her!
I love her. What a dancer!!!!!!’nn we cant forget Ginger!!!!!!!!
Absolute legend!
That was just plain great!
Ann wore the most expensive custom made stockings in the world and went through two or three pair for each filmed number. It was worth it.
You know about her claim to have invented panty hose?
On 'I've Got to Hear That Beat' (in 'Small Town Girl') Busby Berkeley would not let her stop when her feet bled because she would have to change her stockings. They were the most important part of her wardrobe and needed precision adjustment, which he said would take too much time.
Ann Miller is majestic, I keep coming back to this version of the song and dance, it's the best one there is and I ALWAYS think of this song when the temperature is up!
Ann Miller - best female dancer ever!!
Ann Miller just made me melt my key board!
I love the smelling onions look on Kathryn Grayson's face :) :)
No one like her she’s beautiful ✨✨❤️
In addition to how smoking hot Ann Miller is, the icing on the cake are those stunning, hot, pink tap shoes!
I saw this musical on Broadway and loved Kelli O” Hara and great actors. I saw it with my mom today we began dazzling in our tap dancing shoes and memorizing it all the time
I love this song! My goodness what would it be like to have that talent and body?
Happy Birthday, Ann Miller!
Couldn’t see this through to the end...my iPad caught fire....
Steeyuv - ha, good one!
This is simply super hot. Bravo!!!
lt's amazing to watch this and think, this was made long before l was born, and these actors/actresses have lived their lives and now are all
long gone, but their legacy lives on in this film.
One of my all time favorites :)
Beautiful talented lady..what a performance wow! ❤
Great movie with great cast and it was one of my favorite musicals.
sizziling this woman is just not given enough respect
Now imagine this on a big screen in 3D ! Ann is 30 feet tall and appears to jump out of the screen at you as she dances around on the furniture. The 3D prints are hard to find (most in bad shape) and there are very few old movie theaters that show revivals unless you are lucky enough to live in a big city. And Ann was at her absolute best (was she ever really bad?) .
I bought this on 3D bluray pumping it through a DLP projector onto an 11 foot wide by 5.5 foot tall 1080p screen. She just jumps out of the screen in this scene.
Be still my beating heart!!! Luv that Ann Miller! 😘
That was amazing!
Wow !!!
This is - Too Darn Hot ! - Great Video. Thanks.
Ann Miller was too darn hot!! Dieyam!
Try THAT in your living room! WOW!!!
Wow. Just f'n wow.
Her spinning and navigation of the small space cluttered with furniture to knock over, the coffee table and narrow ledge and arm of the couch she balances and hot-foots across -puts to shame any modern-day 'star' performer who can still find a way to wipe out, step off the ledge of a vast wide stage space - or trip on stairs - this puts 'em all to shame.
The talent of this golden era makes ours look pathetic.
So true
Or, you know, she did at one point too and maybe these things take...whats the word? Oh! Practice.
and another thing musst be said compare with movies/musicals and choreography compared to those classic... today it would be a few steps one move... CUT - another camera Angle... back then... they have long sequences /choreography without any cut.
It wasn't easy. According to Ann, many retakes were required for this number as Ann did manage to knock over or hit a piece of furniture or hit someone accidentally. Ann even managed to get her tap shoe ""accidentally" caught in Kathryn Grayson's wig, causing Miss Grayson's wig to go flying across the room during the take.
Sensational and Timeless!!
Amazing Ann Miller routine iconic, working Robinsons Beverly Hills Ann was a regular in the store still performing in the 90's looking really great always with a beautiful smile, adorable lady shopping Christmas 2003 I walked her with assistant with a cartload of gifts to her car at store closing, clearly very ill dressed beautifully told her always think of her watching "Shaking The Blues Away", stopped then looked at me "that was really a good one wasn't it?" responded "a Great one!" legendary lady passed one month later yet had a cart load of gifts one last time, will never see her likes again...
What a fantastic memory! Thanks tons for that wonderful anecdote. ❤❤❤. Annie forever! 👑
TRUE LEGEND!!!!
Oh, I can see the talent! Who else could have done it!?!
Lovely
Pretty darned hot for 1953 😉!
Damn. Just damn. All I can say :) :) :)
My next drag routine
Who else is watching in August?
Found this amazing record on 78rpm today! 3€ worth of treasure in my jukebox 🤩
I was 13 the first time I saw this. I thought I liked musicals afterward, turns out it was just puberty. Ann Miller was, of course, the greatest female dancer in Hollywood, but she was also damned sexy.
Great gams!
Omg, Ann Miller was too darn hot...
Love IT!!!
QUEEN!
The confidence of Ann Miller
THE best!
That's real talent.
I saw her in1980 in “Sugar Babies”.... she would have been about 57+/- and still had the HOT!!!
Who needs Gene Kelly when Ann Miller around, brilliant !!
Bro don't disrespected him like that fuck off
@@getthismanshavingkitorgett1428 Gene Kelly wasn't that good tbh, kind of overrated if you have seen Eleanor Powell and Fred Astaire
@@googlefan7409 Gene Kelly wasn't that good? What drugs are you smoking? Singing in the ran, I got rhythm, American is paris?
Apples and oranges?
@@getthismanshavingkitorgett1428 I didn't say he was not that good . Read between the lines.
I like how they changed at (1:00) "according to the Kinsey report" to "according to the latest report".. Because Kinsey published 2 books Sexual Behavior in the Human Male and Sexual Behavior in the Human Female that flew in the face of the (prudish) establishment .
Imagine that... men and women ACTUALLY LIKE sex.
What a shocker.
Imagine what would happen to Kinsey today in the world of social media.
I hope Kinsey would be skewered, since he was a pervert and fraudster who used criminal pedophiles to help out with his research.
@@esmeephillips5888 Fascinating. He seemed to be a very practical man dedicated to his research.. so this doesn't surprise me.
PS.. do you know how to save a person from the effects of sever hypothermia? Maybe you learned that in First Aid class as I did?
Did you know that procedure is from the work of Josef Mengele? Do you know what kind of a monster he was or did you have to look it up?
@@BramMichaelson www.amazon.com/Kinsey-Sex-Fraud-Indoctrination-People/dp/091031120X
The Hollywood biopic of Kinsey was a whitewash, btw. 'Cancel culture' has not yet got round to him.
No idea how valuable Nazi medical research was, but Kinsey's is worse than worthless. It was about sanitizing aberrant behavior and undermining moral restraints. He was a voyeur and masochist who wanted to present the theories of Freud (another quack) about pre-pubertal sexual instincts as if they were reflected in kids' widespread, voluntary acceptance of adults' attentions. He wrote the abuser's charter.
Anyway, this is OT. I need a shower.
@@esmeephillips5888 I don't understand why people today choose to spend their mental energies on things that purposely make them upset. And what's more.. things they can not possibly influence (Cancel culture is a joke and will be roundly ridiculed by historians like McCartheism is).
Live YOUR life the best way YOU can so that YOUR actions reduce the suffering of the people YOU encounter and those that you love (friends family etc).. that is what you should be spending your mental energies on.
Enjoy your shower.
The only reason why I'm here is because of Ron Randell I love him he's so IRRESISTIBLY adorable , GORGEOUS and charming , I've had a crush on him ever since I was a child and I'll ALWAYS love him!!!".. I fell in love with him when I was really little when I first saw the movie ""king of kings"" and he had the role of the Lucius the roman soldier!" HE WAS SO HOT!!!!"😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗.... I saw him in the movie "shark god" after that too when he played Jeff !"
Hi fellow moonwalker ❤️ love to see my fam enjoying what Michael enjoyed!
This film is 10 years older than me, oh the ravages of time! It is unlikely that any of these people are still alive. Certainly Ann Miller isn't :(
So aren't we fortunate to have this wonderful graphic of her great talent!
Too darn hot for sure.
I'm talkin' about Ann, not the weather! lol
It's hot even by todays standards but imagine 1953 it must have been boiling.
