In this Video Lesson, I will be walking through 10 simple steps to help you get started playing lead guitar. This will help you solo up and down the fretboard in any key along with learning cover solos easier and faster. We will talk about how to find the key to a song, how to know what scales to use over chord progressions, Major scale mode scales along with Pentatonic scales, and using our ear to connect the patterns and figure out cover solos as well as improvising over jam tracks. Hopefully all of this will help you to become the lead guitar player that you want to be and lead you to Greatness!

Great lesson, Clay!! One thing folks should remember is that some artist don’t tune to A 440. A good example is Jimi Hendrix and SRV. They always tuned a half step down. So when playing along with a track, keep in mind the tunings may be different. My favorite guitar player, Ty Tabor of Kings X plays a lot of drop D tuning. 😎

Thanks so much Michael!! That is a great point. When we had our old classic rock cover band, I had a youtube playlist for songs tuned 440 and another playlist for songs tuned 1/2 step down that I used to practice with. In fact I still have those. Take care brother! 😎
