Only underrated by people who never saw it. Well, The Wire was one of the most underrated shows in TV history. Glad it seems to be getting rediscovered.
This brother right here. Gave some great performances in The Wire, in fact his character was 100% perfect and believable for the role. How he made his character so scary and evil yet so calm takes a lot of talent to achieve. It's just a bit frustrating seeing him die in almost every show his in 24 and The Following are perfect examples. Hopefully he gets into more leading roles because his super talented
Absolutely. As evidenced by the "what the fuck" look on her face, even Snoop hadn't a clue as to how vicious he was capable of being. In the DVD commentary, David Simon said Chris had also been sexually abused as a child, and this is why he dealt with Michael's father so brutally. This killing wasn't just a bullet in the skull and move on -- it was an act of vengeance.
@@lhooq27 Absolutely. Even watching it it was as unspoken bond and knowingness between them. A look that told the story. Truly well done by both actors.
@@lhooq27 I could tell after the first 10 seconds, he was abused. There was too much passion involved in that beatdown. He was tired and out of breath afterwards.

Outstanding actor with a lot of range. I recommend anyone looking for more of his performances to view the independent film Home:_ (2013). His performance is amazing.
I just happened to run into Mr.Akegnabbe on the Shuttle train at times square Manhatten on my way into work this evening...I have to say he blended into the crowd very well without even being noticed.. (Except for myself)...He agreed to pose for a photo with me of which I have stored in my phone...Very humble brother considering the role he played as Chris on the "Wire"...
Chris is the scariest character in Television history, him and the sociopath from ‘No country for old men’ as well. Even just watching this interview, I can’t help but to to think about that scene where Chris says to his hostage ‘Don’t worry it’s gonna be quick and clean I promise’ Coldest line ever
That's a good comparison, but the dude from No Country was just a tinier bit scarier to me lol. Both had that "Grim Reaper" characteristic, as if they would be the last things you ever saw in life. Snoop too
It wasn't a hair, it was saliva from when he spit on the body after hitting and kicking him to death. In an extra on one of the DVDs David Simons confirmed that Chris was also molested when he was a child, just like Michael. He was caught because he gave into rage instead of staying methodical and keeping things clean like his other kills, rage he felt because he obviously never worked through what happened to him when he was younger.
@@shadez940 I know it was a joke. But it was factually incorrect and my very literal, on the spectrum brain had to correct it as I was quite anxious at the time and the idea of someone else reading it and getting the wrong impression . . . well, my Wire loving brain couldn't let that stand. And, really, a few words switched out the the joke would work and be factual at the same time. I know that I wasn't particularly polite which is out the the norm for me, but I wasn't rude either as I don't understand the point of being rude to people just because you can. I hope it didn't read as such to others, but I'm responding here just in case: I didn't mean to be rude, just to correct the record. I apologize for being unclear.
Just watched the role he played on Law And Order s10e17 how he changed his accent to a former African child soldier just blew my mind. I had a hard time believing it was him, so much that I had to rewatch his roles on the wire to hear if I could pick up the difference. He's excellent. Plus the fact that he played the role alongside 'Major Colvin' Robert Wisdom made it all nostalgic 💯
Just watched The Wire again. Every episode! Phenomenal series!! And Chris!! He and Omar , in my opinion were likeable bad guys. Most of the “bad guys” were likable, the cops and politicians were the assholes. I can’t be the only one that thought that!!

I like him he seem like a calm level headed dude to talk to. His character Chris was actually one of my favorite characters too despite the fact he was a serial killer. I don't think anyone African American, from any hood, could have played the grittiness and darkness that Gbenga brought to that character. His character looked as if it grew up being a child soldier in some African country. That gave it more authenticity. He is a excellent talent
I had a jumpscare at 0:13😨🙂 He's my favorite character in the Wire, he's so real and brutal, loyal, cold, you can't mess with the embodiment of the street!
