Red Cadeaux was a triple runner-up in the Melbourne Cup in 2011, 2013 and 2014.
This year's Melbourne Cup Carnival starts with Penfolds Victoria Derby day on 30th October, before the iconic Melbourne Cup Day on 2nd November, where Australia's stars such as Incentivise and Johnny Get Angry could meet international contenders such as Spanish Mission and last year's winner, Twilight Payment. I remember well watching this race live and I thought for sure that Red Cadeaux had just nipped Dunaden by a whisker watching them hit the wire in real time.
Such an exciting finish!
Two great Ill fated champions
Red Cadeaux was ill-fated, while Dunaden had at least some period of stud career, which could be regarded as his retirement.
Red Cadeaux was poorly treated. Ran second in 3 Melbourne Cups , then greedy owners decided to race him again in Melbourne Cup and he broke down with injury and they destroyed him. He deserved better. Should have retired him .
Watched it live and couldn't forget the name I guess he won the Cox plate next coming from so wide
Its probably the only race they could show from the start. All the others, a horse dies mid race.
