That may be but small dogs like the ETT and, I assume the Manchester Terrier, have watch dog instincts like the German Shepherd. If you get one you gotta know they are going to bark, and they are loud as F too. ❤😂 Cheers.
@@scottmichaels12I don’t dispute that, I just wanted to point out, like stated in the video, that if your toy breed has watchdog instinct the best you can achieve is to curb the barking but the dog will keep barking when they feel it is their job to do so, because that’s their drive. I don’t want to be preachy but it is incredibly important to research the breed you intend to become owner of, you’ll be happier and your dog will be as well. IMHO. Cheers.
Geneticists have found that genes for aggression are very close to those for short legs and so this is also genetic. See Dachshunds. Owners of small dogs are often terrible. I once had a Shizu run up and bite my Cane Corso in the face, luckily for the dog, she just shook it off. The owner giggled that it was playing. I told her she'll meet a dog that will kill it. We live in the city and I have a high drive, working collie. I didn't set out to get a working dog. I got him from the same breeder I got my previous collie from who was very chill and a couch potato (I mean I walked him every day and we did fun stuff, but he was MUCH less work than Sherlock is). We are surrounded by other dogs on all sides so when I put my dog outside, he often ends up barking uncontrollably. He will come to me now (that was a bit of a challenge), but it means I can never let him out unless I am right there so I can bring him in if he starts really barking. He's very excitable so he kind of goes from zero to 100 very easily and if I don't disrupt the barking, he could literally bark for hours if he gets fixated on something. We've tried a variety of things, but now I only let him out if I am nearby and can bring him in if he gets fixated. He is also very hostile toward the mailman and any kind of delivery type of vehicle. He can be inside fast asleep on his bed and the fed ex guy will pull up at a house a block away and my dog will instantly jump up, growl, and start barking. I'm not 100% sure what to do. I've tried very calmly saying, all right thanks for letting me know and then correcting. I've tried ignoring it. I've tried opening the door so he can see the vehicle and keep an eye on it. I've tried putting him in his crate. Even when I do "Look at me's" which he is normally decent at, it's like he can't get his focus entirely off the vehicle. My fear is that someday he'll knock down the screen door or something and take off after the vehicle. He's a very sweet dog and overall has a wonderful temperament. He's not hyper by any stretch and we walk an hour every day (usually broken into 2 walks). I also try to do a play session and a training session each day. I have backyard agility equipment and I've started trying to teach him some nose work because he has a great sniffer. But, I'll be honest, I kind of feel like I got a Ferrari to go to the grocery store. Any tips to help with the barking? I know there's only so much I can do with him having a higher drive, and being basically a working dog. (it's too bad they don't have super tiny sheep I could let him herd around the yard! lol).
Thank! My Cane Corso fake-barks when outside so she can get back to leaning on my leg. Not just barking - she sounds like she's disembowelling someone. I've seen her - she's actually sitting at the door staging it. Never get a dog smarter than you. My husband wants a bark collar, but I see it as the last resort. She's been otherwise so well-behaved that I can take her anywhere. I was told she'd be impossible to manage but it's been a breeze. We'll do this.
I've tried all the tricks I read about yed my 🐕, 5yrs old gifted 2 me 2yrs ago barks @people when I take him out all the time, he's been seeing the same neighbors all the time. Is there any way 2 put a stop 2 his behavior???

I have adopted a puppy yesterday and I am facing this barking problem. I am trying to make him feel home and calm. Hopefully he will be comfortable and calm with time.
How can you correct a dog that barks and lunges everytime you meet someone? I have a 1 year old Shar Pei/Husky/Rottweiler/Pitbull/Heeler, and talking to anyone when I'm out with her is frustrating. As soon as she knows I'm talking to someone she'll immediately start barking and trying to jump on them, not aggressively, she just wants to say hi, but it quickly gets out of hand with her excitement and eventually puppy biting. Going anywhere with friends is almost too much as well, as she'll immediately forget her heel walk and start desperately pulling towards where they're walking, even if I'm walking next to my friend.
My dog started barking started barking at my mom and me when he wants our attention, for example he barks when we're eating dinner. should we ignore his behavior or tell him to shush
I am fostering a mini golden doodle and her last owner would reward her for barking all the time and get her in trouble for barking too much at times. I’m going to try my best to train her and hopefully she turns to the a great dog.
I have a very small dog, does bark not all the time but enough to want me to make it stop, i realize i need to teach them a word like shush, but i obviously dont want to hurt her, can i use a harness rather than a collar to do this?
Got a beagle, Know they are a barking bread, but man his demand barking is insanse, Hits his dinner time starts barking, anyone has food he starts barking, tried alot of things but he just learns to bark through it, even rewarded him when he not barking.
Mini Schnauzer owner here. Oh, yes, they love the sound of their own voice! They 'aroooo'! And what have we done? We've only gone and got a second one! 😮 Fortunately, we've got dog-loving neighbours!
I bought two puppies and the one puppy barks and barks and barks at the other all the time. She is faster than him, and he gets mad. We are really struggling. WE never taught this, we've only had them for 3 days. It's making life very difficult...
What do you do when the neighbors dogs constantly bark? Like non-stop! They leave for work and they have 5 little dogs that literally bark all day. -Stay-at-home mom
I would love to learn this too. I’ve heard stories of people using doggy daycares and their dogs come home with problem behaviors… how do we keep them from bringing it home?
This is the exact issue I’m having. I brought home a puppy that wasn’t reactive and now is because the neighbor lady lets her dogs start barking at 5:30 am and just comes out and says “shush” and they bark at EVERYTHING.
I have a German Shepherd/Golden Retriever mix. She's been the best dog I've ever had. Unfortunately, one of my neighbors has been complaining about her barking while I'm gone at work. She has a doggy door so she comes and goes as she likes. I've been running with her before and after work. Still no improvements. But personally, I don't think my dog is excessive. She barks for a few min when she hears noises or when someone is walking. When I'm home, I definitely am on top of getting my dog to stop barking after alerting me. But I'm struggling with a solution for when I'm at work. Any suggestions?
Hello my dog is a rescued dog ive had him for almost 3 years, he refuses to pee/poop when i take him out although he does it sometimes it depends on his mood. I arranged the timing for his outings to be the same each day already and i train him for obedience almost everyday. However he keeps doing this where i take him out he doesnt poop nor pee for so long. Im not sure what i should be doing its quite tiring if im honest
Doesn’t lead pressure increase the dogs sensitivity to the trigger? Or are you saying to train them separately without the trigger and just use the command when they’re barking?
Depends on the reason why the dog is barking and the underlying emotion. In my opinion he didn’t differentiate enough between reasons as to why a dog barks. Could be attention seeking, then pressure may decrease barking. But if the dog barks out of fear then I personally won’t apply pressure. I would work on the fear element.
My cane corso pup is crated while I’m gone. Soon as I come home- he hears me & loses his mind. Barking, jumping- I know I should ignore this behavior- but he don’t stop until I let him out. Please help. He’s only 11 weeks & I’ve watched all of your videos- I really want to train him correctly. He can already sit, lay down, hold when I set his food down & I potty trained him!!! All because I watched your videos A LOT. So thank you.
Any luck? My dog still yaps a lot so I can tell you what NOT to do. Don't let family around your dog when it's still training if they don't respect boundaries. I tell my family to respect dogs boundaries, they don't and now my dog is snippy. DONT reward their bad behavior or it will never get fixed. Tell my family not to coddle my dog after she barks, they still coddle her and she thinks it's okay 🙄 idk if you living with family but they're the problem for me 😭
Same with my Yorkie. He starts when he hears my truck in the driveway. Barking, yelping, jumping like crazy to be let out. It doesn't matter the length of time I'm gone. I can go outside to the mailbox, and he loses it when I walk back inside.
I have 5 mos old litter mates. Thier barking is over toys, what one has the other wants. I constantly remove the toy and have even bought 2 of everything but it does not stop. Any ideas?
I do have a GSD nearly 1 year, he is very reactive to any, dog he sees, person he sees and different sounds he hears, he barks and wont stop. Need it to stop as we just had a new born, btw he loves our little one and shows love and protection, but when baby is sleeping. He will hear or see something and he will bark from the top of his lungs, waking up the baby 🤦🏻♂️
I keep looking at these. One of our dogs must not actually be a dog, or something is actually wrong with him. When I wake up (Not get up, not move, not even eyes open; nothing. Just almost aware I'm in bed with my head on the pillow) no matter where he is in the house, this dog losses his mind. Literally every single time. Mind you, there are two of us in the house. He does that only when I drift into consciousness. He's ignored, which really does nothing. Taken out. Told to shut up. Being told to shut up works long enough for me to go back to sleep. We have two dogs. One never says anything. Only the one. Yet another example, the other dog goes out, he losses his mind. He shuts up only if I'm standing right over top of him telling him to shut up. If I'm the one walking the other dog, nope. He's screaming as loud as he can the entire time. Doesn't matter if he was just out, was asleep, eating, or another person is right there with him. My theory is he is his hobby is to see exactly how far he can go before I finally decide to eat him for breakfast. It might have started because of, well, an alarm clock. I haven't used an alarm clock for two years. But who knows. He doesn't want anything. He just likes pissing me off the second I wake up. But not my spouse or visitors. It just follows none of the rules ever laid out. Except for maybe the alarm clock waking us both up that just isn't there anymore.
mine has 18 breeds . He doesn't bark at normal dog stuff well he does but that's okay, he just randomly barks at me like trying to talk and I don't KNOW what he wants or how to stop!!
What do you do if you have a lazy family member who got a hunting breed and didn't bother to get anything more than a kennel, rope, and a leash. I'm in the position of looking after a dog that is untrained and ill-equipped to be trained.
I have a German Shepard, a husky, and a pit bull. The husky only barks when something isn't right she's mouthy to us when we interact with her which we are okay with but when she is outside by her self with the other 2 she's quite. Now the other 2 cannot stop barking for more than 3 minutes in a long period of time outside its non stop I know german Shepard nature I get it but it is non stop she is louder and more mouthy than the husky.
I have two neighbours that have dogs that bark all the time, like if I go into my own back garden… How can I get them to shut up?! The owners just tell them to shut up but it’s really irritating to be barked at for being on my own property! I’ll take any advice! 😂
I have 0 problems with my dog alerting me by barking. My pup Shepard barks the moment he’s put into his cage to the moment he’s out. That’s my problem. He will not be in the cage his entire life. I like my Shepard’s to protect my home. Just puppy stage when I run out cause right now he’s into eating wires
I wish you lived here. I know people must tell you that. I Love my German shepherd, a 5 month old pup. Her obnoxious non stop barking is only when others or dogs come into view. I want to minimize it. Not at home when she's just with us. I'm still doing something wrong. Still pulling my 130 lb body when walking too.
You post a video of how to stop a dog barking in the front seat of the car in a car seat looking at dogs people et cetera barking puppy page 8 months thank you
I tried reearding the good behaviour but he’ll bark immediately after that and sometimes on a good boy biscuit has even choked because he then immediately bark again even though he was calm any advice please tried shhuh stop ✋ didn’t work louder
I’m a big fan of corrective collars for barking. Usually set at the beep or vibrate, almost never requiring any shock. It is instantaneous. Not the automatic ones that go off if another dog barks, but the ones that have a remote control. Too many owners just release their dogs without monitoring them. Will is suggesting slip leash correction, which I haven’t had much luck with- especially if you can’t instantly correct them
I have a beep collar and because he barks so much, I have an automatic one. I cannot stay on top of it otherwise. While it’s on, he stop barking after the first beep. When the collar is off he barks all the time. It’s not sinking in >_
@@shelly1391 Keep working with them when you are able to reward them for not barking at an obvious provocation. If it’s a window, try the occlusive privacy film. When you absolutely can’t monitor them then the automatic beep is ok- try not even charging it after they are aware of it being on. May take a LONG time to correct completely

I know there's only so much I can do with him having a higher drive, and being basically a working dog. (it's too bad they don't have super tiny sheep I could let him herd around the yard! lol).
Temperaments can be such a matter of luck. We've got a super cute little Boxer who's a wanna-be serial killer.
My Maltese sits and watches the window for walk-by-ers then he's off like a barking nut all over the house..omg! Im over it.
Same thing with my Maltese
I have great Anatolian that is supposed to be outside overnight watching the homestead but she barks at nothing. She instantly starts barking the moment I open the door. Then runs the property line barking at absolutely nothing
I have adopted a puppy yesterday and I am facing this barking problem. I am trying to make him feel home and calm. Hopefully he will be comfortable and calm with time.
Do you have an update? We're getting a puppy soon and the barking is the only thing i am unsure of is training him not to bark / stop barking...
thank you, this helped
My dog barks so much that i end up crying because i can’t handle the sound anymore.
Great!
I have a very small dog, does bark not all the time but enough to want me to make it stop, i realize i need to teach them a word like shush, but i obviously dont want to hurt her, can i use a harness rather than a collar to do this?
thank you
Thank you! 🧚🏼
It's making life very difficult...
excellent video 💙
What do you do when the neighbors dogs constantly bark? Like non-stop! They leave for work and they have 5 little dogs that literally bark all day.
-Stay-at-home mom
My lab will literally not stop barking once she starts. No matter how long you wait, she will keep going on and on and on haha.
Thinking about getting a beagle… how manageable is it to train them to stop barking?
It was 3 in the morning and dogs were barking so I yelled out hush. Next morning I found out our truck was stolen. 😂
So you need to have the dog frequently leashed to pair command with correction?
What if the neighbours have a dog that keeps barking? How can we make sure our puppy wont bark with him?
Crate training?
Do you classify lead pressure in this context as positive punishment?
Hey. So i have a puppy and a bigger dog but my big dog is the one reinforcing the barking. How should i deal with this?
Me soon😓😓 i got a pitbull and im getting a Lab puppy soon
@@hvrmonyy sadly I never figured it out lol but he's mostly outgrown it now 😅
Our neighbors dog is so vocal, it sounds like its dying everyday
Hello my dog is a rescued dog ive had him for almost 3 years, he refuses to pee/poop when i take him out although he does it sometimes it depends on his mood. I arranged the timing for his outings to be the same each day already and i train him for obedience almost everyday. However he keeps doing this where i take him out he doesnt poop nor pee for so long. Im not sure what i should be doing its quite tiring if im honest
Take him to the vet it's probably a health issue
This isn't helping what about those of us that have do punishment and correction verbally and touch correction and it STILL isn't working?
We're their 'loving leaders' *gives a correction on a slip lead*.
Yes, loving indeed.
Chihuahua!🥲
“Leadership is love.” Will-you should do some human parenting classes, too.😅
Doesn’t lead pressure increase the dogs sensitivity to the trigger?
Any ideas?
Can you achieve this without using a slip collar or slip lead?
We recently adopted our dog from the shelter about 4 months ago...My dog barks and growls at my husband just when my husband walks into the room.
How do I get in contact with you to bring my dog to you for training?
I have a 4 month old labor doodle
My two dogs bark so much. Its not an attention thing its a needing to bark At anything loud they hear or if they hear someone.
My rott mix lives outside and barks through the night. What can I do from inside the house?
mine has 18 breeds .
4:12 you looked away ..... How come?
My cocker spaniel only barks inside and especially the when in garden. When out he doesn’t bark at all. Neighbours and myself going crazy
Realising ive created a needy little sausage
Mild punishment + sound = dog training ?
What happened to positive reinforcement?
I have a German Shepard, a husky, and a pit bull. The husky only barks when something isn't right she's mouthy to us when we interact with her which we are okay with but when she is outside by her self with the other 2 she's quite. Now the other 2 cannot stop barking for more than 3 minutes in a long period of time outside its non stop I know german Shepard nature I get it but it is non stop she is louder and more mouthy than the husky.
Moved into a duplex style apartment that isn’t soundproof my shih poo is going nuts all the time all thru the night 😔
Does anyone know how to stop a Chihuahua from barking
I have two neighbours that have dogs that bark all the time, like if I go into my own back garden… How can I get them to shut up?! The owners just tell them to shut up but it’s really irritating to be barked at for being on my own property! I’ll take any advice! 😂
Many German shepherds are used as service dogs though so... They can be trained...
Good like
Who else here has a Labrador?
So my question is how to get him to stop in the cage.
German shepherd ok barking outside. Aussie Blue heeler inside not ok.
We just re-home are dog he always barking at people coming to the house or people coming in he's a bishon fris
I have a dadhound barks really loude won't stop so need this

@Immy. yes it has thank you so much
@@DianaNicholson-m7u do yk how to stop dogs from barking at people who just walk by
Thought on dog daddy
Would be great if you had time stamps.

I have Norwegian elkhound and she is very vocal 😂
You post a video of how to stop a dog barking in the front seat of the car in a car seat looking at dogs people et cetera barking puppy page 8 months thank you
I tried reearding the good behaviour but he’ll bark immediately after that and sometimes on a good boy biscuit has even choked because he then immediately bark again even though he was calm any advice please tried shhuh stop ✋ didn’t work louder
So ignore them or shush them? That’s confusing.
I got a jack russell

My 17 month old Whippet barks like a German shepherd. Drives me insane.
He’s nearly 2 and a half now and still barks a lot. It’s horrible.
@@shelly1391 It sounds like it is sinking in - that he only gets corrected when the collar is on!
