This is great! Just picked up a 600 with a stuck wrist pin, and bought a used crank. But the used hood crank is the updated model with bigger bearings so it won’t fit the block I’ve got! Thanks to this video I should be able to swap out the bearings off the old crank and getter goin👍

Great video. Anyone know how/where to get just the bearing between the connecting rod and wrist pin? Mine is destroyed, can't find it anywhere online.

Sounds good 1 thing i didn't recommend but should have it was kind of an after thought was the gear that comes off the crank may need to be marked so it goes back on in the same position i do not think this matters but could be wrong. I believe that once the timing is set that not even half of a gear tooth will matter just a suggestion and thanks for watching!

@@chainsawmatt4849 Gear placement is crucial, just need to align correctly when pressing back in place.

I had a stuck bushing on the head. And I took it off sanded it down to fit to allow movement again. Put it all back together and now it won't start .. any idea why?

I removed my crank gear without heating. I was pretty surprised.

Heating the shaft defeats the whole purpose by causing it to expand...
why in the world would anyone want to do that ???
A wet rag on the shaft while heating the gear and bearing with the puller tightly in place would help removal.
Shaft in freezer for contraction and bearing and gear in oven for expansion to assemble.
You managed to accomplish the goal, but have learning and teaching bass-ackward !

The part that carries the balls inside the bearing is called a cage and stihl does not use plastic cages in their bearings. They're all steel. Those plastic cages are cheap China bearings and should never use them. The other thing is you heated up the shaft so you expanded the shaft underneath the gear what you should have done was just heat to gear up with the polar Ariana with a little tension on it. The other thing is if you use a torch oxide lean torch you would have a smaller tip and not overheat the hell out of everything like you did. What I want to know is how did you line up the teeth on the gear to the crankshaft there's a specific location for it to be.
