  • Chatting about my Vac 700R and its nib while filling it (poorly). I had to polish the nib a bit when I first got it but it's much better now. A good beefy pen with huge capacity I keep in rotation with my daily writers.
The ink I'm using is Dominant Industries Manshurian Violet.

Love your description of your channel. 😊 Nice pen and ink. For smoothing nibs either a piece of micromesh or a dual-sided nail buffer, used judiciously, does a great job. The nail buffer can help in cases of Baby's Bottom as well.

That title is very accurate too :-D
Thanks for the mesh and nail buffer recommendation. I'm a bit nervous to work on the Iris nib much more because they're hard to come by. I have a TWSBI swipe that's a little underwhelming so I'll start there and see what I learn. Thanks again!

I am not impressed with the one (probably my only) vac filler I purchased from some fishy foreign company. I find it difficult to fill these pens when the ink level is low in the bottle. With a converter I could simply take a blunt needle syringe and fill the converter. Besides, cleaning can be a struggle too.

Thank you for the comment! Converters or reusing cartridges is my fave too. While I really like the look and the physics involved with these vac fillers I'm starting to realize the drawbacks. I haven't had to really deep-clean one yet but you got me thinking it's going to be a huge pain if I ever want to switch inks or if there's staining in this demonstrator.
I picked up TWSBI's proprietary bottle for filling this one that's designed for low-ink situations but doesn't help for non TWSBI pens. I still got a lot to learn but I have the feeling one is never done learning about pens :-D
