A tip from dhobi. When it's hot, swirl a candle two or three times. Will give a glow like mercerised fabric.

Very nice demonstration and very helpful tips to all those who love wearing cotton saris. There is nothing as elegant as starched and pressed cotton saris. My mother proved this on every occasion. Thank you Ma'am🙏
In days gone by Indian women took great pride in the way they dressed with a few simple touches, such as wearing crisply starched cotton saris, with their hair tied in a neat bun, and a veni of fresh jasmine flowers encircling it, a nice pottu.....and they looked so regal. My mother was one such person. No matter what the occasion , she preferred her Khatau , Calico and Finlay voile saris to Kanjeevarams , georgettes and chiffon. Even well past 90 she went about her work at home, impeccably attired in beautiful cotton saris starched to perfection, that when she moved around , she had the confidence of a queen. Some aspects of our Indian culture, which endowed the Indian woman with grace and charm, will always remain timeless. I am learning it a little too late 😊
@latascookbook9817 Ma'am you have paid a nice tribute to a truly golden era by reviving an interest in wearing beautifully starched cotton saris. There is nothing to match that touch of class. So I have you to thank.
You can grind 1 kg of Javvarisi in a flour mill and store it. Just like how Mam mixed maida, you can dissolve ஜவ்வரிசி in cold water and pour it in the hot water and the rest is the same method. The saree needs ironing.
Lovely. My mother always did this in her younger days. Brought back fond memories. Can we starch more than one saree with the amount of starch you made?
Many years ago, when I used to starch the sarees and give it for ironing, the dhobi asked me not to use maida because they tend to stick and the saree can tear in the process
Very Easy & useful Tips to put starch for cotton sarees & iron it perfectly at home .👌👍👏🙏. Mami, in the same way, can we put starch for Cotton Churidars also?
My amma and I always used to dedicate a day for starching and ironing our cotton sarees and as you mentioned, budget was a concern and we get the satisfaction when we do our things at home. After preparing starch in the above method,we used to add 1-2 drops of jasmine perfume or some jasmine or rose petals that lent a gentle fragrance along with the shine and crisp. In my college (SRC) everyone used to admire my cotton sarees and how they remained crisp throughout the despite of my travel by crowded bus Your video brought back all those memories mami!😊
I was using fine sago (javvarisi) powder which we could get in Salem. Sarees would look new. But now I am not getting sago powder of that superfine quality.
