I love this show, and I actually love King Julien. IMO, he's an example of an arrogant character done right, it's hard for me not to smile when he's on screen.
I think part of it is that the show actually showcases him as being in the wrong, whereas with something like Spongebob's bad episodes the arrogant character hurting people is shown as being either in the right or just neutral. King Julien usually gets his just desserts and it feels satisfying, plus he has enough redeeming qualities to him to not make him an outright villain.
@@Dudebox64 True but there are also some moments of genius on his part. He has some parts in which he redeems himself, too. He's a mix but is still mostly chaotic and does learn a lesson some times or gets punished for being in the wrong. Actually, the original Sonic model's biggest issue were the proportions. The first model's proportions were too "realistic," so to speak. They fixed it in the second model by making it more cartoony in the proportions. The textures and colors are 100% the same between the two versions.

This was my favourite animated series, I still watch it with my mom when I go back home in Mexico. It also helps a lot that it has a top tier Spanish dub, because it’s dubbed by the same people who dubbed the movies.
I loved this show. The characters in it were so endearing and well written. I think they thing that kinda sells it is that even though they're secret agents, they feel more like a platoon platoon of soldiers, so there's this band of brothers feeling to the whole thing. The relationship dynamics are really sweet and kinda genuine. Like, you get the feeling that the three older characters have been through hell together and are like determined not to let the same thing happen to their youngest member. That's never stated, but that's the kinda feeling it has.
TPoM had the single funniest line I've ever heard in a Nicktoon: Skipper (to King Julien): You're a discgrace to the uniform! Even to *that* uniform, which is already a disgrace in itself!
The Madagascar Christmas Special was both funny and heartwarming at the same time. Especially when Gloria hugs a girl who thinks she's Santa Claus. Another moment I love in the Christmas special is Private's relationship and crush on Cupid who's one of Santa's reindeer. While the other Penguins have a huge rivalry and beef with Santa's main reindeer. Private is the only one who ignores the rivalry and truly cares about her.
@@hollylester3813 That usually happens, either for monetary or availability reasons. Sometimes it's just cheaper &/or easier to get a soundalike VA than the original one.
"Kowalski, status report." Penguins was a good show, Dreamworks in general was better then. Whether it was an espionage plot, slice of life, or Julien shenanigans, they managed to keep the laughs coming with few that failed.
I loved watching this show when growing up. It honestly was my favorite cgi show, alongside jimmy neutron. The part where you said “wait, a company actually making something for artistic value?” Funnily enough, I remember schrafillias productions explaining how Dreamworks made sequels for art. Which, I think dreamworks should be known for. They aren’t like disney/Pixar who makes sequels mainly for money. Yes dreamworks has made some mediocre films, but thankfully they get overshadowed by their much better films.
Pixar: Mostly excellent original films, bland sequels (except for Toy Story and technically Incredibles) DreamWorks: Mostly bland original films, excellent sequels (except for Shrek the Third)
The best episode, I swear. Is the one where multiple Kowalskis appear and it turns out it's because the same Kowalski kept travelling back in time over and over to warn Skipper to do something, but then not do it, then do it anyway. I love it's from Skippers point of view and he has to keep track on four different Kowalskis, whom is actually the same Kowalski who kept traveling back in time. It was great. My second favorite is one where Skippers gets a broken wing, then because he is all wrapped up and drugged out of his mind the other penguins legit believes he has become a zombie and all the zombie clichees just follows and it's hilarious. "If there is something I know, it is to hide from a zombie you need to be in tight and dark places with no escape! He''ll never find us here!" "BLERGH!" "AAARGH!" Runs the heck away. And then when they decide to capture Skipper to perform gruesome testing on him to find a cure and Private just yells. "Oh no! He's getting away!" Zooms out and Skipper just slowly staggers away because well, he moved real slowly all the time. The way they cut the show and zoom in really works well, it's super clever.
I watched every episode of this show with my dad when I was a kid. He genuinely enjoyed it with me, and that made it a really nice bonding experience. I was pretty sad when I found out the show was ending. I really outta go watch this again.
When it comes to Madagascar trilogy, the first movie is mediocre and the other 2 are very divisive. No mater what movie though, the penguins were, are and will always be the best part of those movies and the show was great and didn’t ruin their reputation as the best part of the franchise. It’s like the minions but good
i think El Tigre holds up better then Enter thought as it does do some things like totally ditching having a secret identity (like the only person who didn't know Manny was El Tigre by the start of the series was his mother and she finds out in the episode that debuted her and honestly Maria's arc in that series is actually pretty good) and having a unique idea and premise but there was a lot of that show that got pretty annoying really quickly and honestly did not fully live up to it's potential even in the one season it had. I would say behind Avatar and this it was probably the best Nicktoon between 2005 and 2009 as I would defend it a hell of a lot more over Catscratch.
Before The Legend of Korra, Harvey Beaks, The Loud House and TMNT 2012 series, that last GOOD series before heading to the dark era was Making Fiends. The Penguins of Madagascar, was very mediocre.
Yeah I agree with that, Penguins, and mabye El Tigre were the the only real good Nicktoons around that time. In fact I would have to say that next to I Carly, Penguins was the only SHOW in general Nick was airing past 2007 that I actually liked. Everything else good at that time either ended (Avatar,Drake and Josh,Zoey 101), dropped in quality (SpongeBob and FOP Season 6), or was really mediocre. As for Penguins the characters were funny and it was cool seeing the Penguins from the Madagascar franchise have their own spinoff considering that they were probably the best character's from the original movies. The other side characters were also fun, and the show has some emotional merrit to it. The animation is a bit of a mixed bag, but the show knows how to keep it's humor consistent and the spy parody makes it entertaining. It's shocking that it still holds up well especially for all the spinoff cartoons Nick was doing at the time. The sad part is that this only feels like a calm before the storm. You'll have a good show here and there like The Legend Of Korra, the two TMNT reboots, Harvey Beaks, and The Loud House, but aside that it's all mainly downhill as we head into the 2010's, and what better way that we introduce Nicks worst decade than opening it with Fanboy and Chum Chum and Planet Sheen.
Fun fact: That episode where they take care of the egg gave me a fantasy (when I was 10) about King Julien being even more aggressive (in a fatherly way) about getting JJ back/"rescuing" JJ from the penguins. An episode and a fantasy that are both surprisingly more heartwarming in hindsight as an adult. For that matter the toy factory episode is funnier as an adult as well.
The wierd thing about Danny Jacobs (King Julien) is that he actually can sing decently (considering that On Phineas and Ferb he sings the Doofinschmirtz evil Inc. Jingle and some other songs on the show) but in this show, he can’t because the voice he’s doing won’t let him
I know this isn't from the show but my favorite quote from the penguins is probably when they reach Antarctica and the scene is just them standing in a blizzard for like 15 seconds before it ends with Private saying, "Well this sucks."
I remember watching this show. I even remember some of the penguins’ reoccurring villains: Dr. Blowhole, the rats, Red Squirrel, and that one animal control dude with the sunglasses.

5:37 Skipper and Julien (and Mort I think) have their actors from the movies, and John DiMaggio took over Rico in the spinoff movie, but other than that, yes. None of the other characters retain their movie voices.
The only one with the same voice in both the show and the films was Skipper, voiced by Tom McGrath. McGrath was also a co-director on all three Madagascar films, though I can’t find anything saying he directed any episodes of the show (he did do a couple of Ren and Stimpy eps though).
I personally think this is hands down the funniest nicktoon, and the 2nd most underrated nicktoon after TMNT (2012). This show always made me laugh and gave me a good time when it was on, and when I went back to it I was floored by how well it held up. I’m also surprised the quotes in this show aren’t all memes (unless they are and I’m just unaware).
I am surprised that you liked this one, Mr. Enter. Needlessly to say, this is pleasant surprise. I remember this show a bit and I found its antics charming. The heart is definitely there and this was a much needed Nicktoon given the time period. And honestly, I found King Julian and oddly likeable character despite the fact there are dozens of reasons to not like him. I guess it is because even he does not come out unscathed in some instances (the "no touching the feet" episode where the penguins train Mort (which means "death") to not touch feet in the sense he still cannot handle Mort's feet touching by the end). Would have to say I liked the main four penguins the most, especially Kowalski and Private.
Funnily enough, Danny Jacobs reprised his role as King Julien from the movie. He has also done voice work as Victor Tsaz in the Arkham games and Snakeweed in TMNT 2012.
I loved this show! My favorite was Skipper bc his voice when he delivered his lines made it absolutely hysterical xD I also rly liked Kowalski! This show was super fun!
The bad news is that King Julian got his own show. The good news is that even Nickelodeon apparently didn't want to air it so its on Universal Kids, meaning Enter won't have to review it for this series.

And I like many of the other characters too, Marlene especially. Never thought you actually liked this show, John. 😁 Wish you the best for the next review.
I remember watching this show quite a bit with my dad when it was airing, enjoyed it, and I’m glad to see that others enjoyed it from a non memey perspective (To be fair though, the PoM memes are legendary in their own right)
This show was definitely the best during that age of Nickelodeon. I remember marathoning everytime it was on, and it hold a personal space in my heart, cause it would be one of the last ones i would watch with my family, it was just a very funny, charming and entertaining show. It kinda got the TTG treatment in Latin America, cause it would be for like 1 hour three times a day, but all the episodes were just really worth the watch whenever the chance was available.

@@NitroIndigo Eh, good point.
Sheen was not a good main character because his main character traid was being stupid and obsessed with cartoons, that's not enough personality to make him the hilight of an entire series. The penguins are full of personality and were the best part of the movie, that on its own made this show good.

I love this show, and I actually love King Julien. IMO, he's an example of an arrogant character done right, it's hard for me not to smile when he's on screen.
Except in the last garbage seasons.

I guess that explains why the Sonic trailer was so bad...nope, nothing explains that abomination.
I Agree; Even after the Changes I Still hate it; heck, I Hate it even more because of Sonic's Conjoined Eyes(even if they are 2 eyes instead of one like in the games; they still look so close together they still end up looking like 1 Eye; even if it's due to a Tuft of White Fur between his Eyes; and I Know this is more accurate to the video games; But I didn't even like his Conjoined Eyes in the ORIGINAL GAMES THEMSELVES!!)
That's a movie budget though, not a television budget.
Actually, the original Sonic model's biggest issue were the proportions. The first model's proportions were too "realistic," so to speak. They fixed it in the second model by making it more cartoony in the proportions. The textures and colors are 100% the same between the two versions.

Yeah, I remember this series being rather solid. The Kung Fu Panda show was okay, but Monsters vs Aliens was really forgettable.
Patrick Kenneally monster vs aliens was a gigantic disappointment
Monsters vs Aliens was shit
I liked the small pink know-it-all alien. Otherwise, MvA was forgetable at best.
Plus, The Penguins of Madagascar marks the longest-running Dreamworks spin-off on Nickelodeon with having ran a total of 7 years between November 29, 2008 to December 19, 2015. The other Dreamworks spin-offs on Nickelodeon are Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness which only ran for 5 years from September 19, 2011 to June 29, 2016 and Monsters vs. Aliens which only ran for 1 year from March 23, 2013 to February 8, 2014.

Can we talk about the amount of episodes that revolves around Mort’s obsession with Julien’s feet?
Oh, those moments are hilarious, but they do give off a Dan Schneider vib
I loved this show. The characters in it were so endearing and well written. I think they thing that kinda sells it is that even though they're secret agents, they feel more like a platoon platoon of soldiers, so there's this band of brothers feeling to the whole thing. The relationship dynamics are really sweet and kinda genuine. Like, you get the feeling that the three older characters have been through hell together and are like determined not to let the same thing happen to their youngest member. That's never stated, but that's the kinda feeling it has.
The penguins are the kind of comic relief characters that should get spin offs, not the minions

"The Penguins of Madagascar" was one of my favorite shows as a kid. 😁
TPoM had the single funniest line I've ever heard in a Nicktoon:
Skipper (to King Julien): You're a discgrace to the uniform!
The whole original voice cast was in there you know
“BUT WHO CAN RESIST THIS?”

Skipper has the same VA from the movies & Rico kept his TV voice for the spin-off film. The rest were replaced, I believe.
The spin-off film was made in 2014, after the show was over.
Mort's voice actor also reprised his role for the series.
@@russellhunter363 The remaining Penguins of Madagascar episodes aired in late 2015.

@@hollylester3813 That usually happens, either for monetary or availability reasons. Sometimes it's just cheaper &/or easier to get a soundalike VA than the original one.
"Kowalski, status report."
Penguins was a good show, Dreamworks in general was better then. Whether it was an espionage plot, slice of life, or Julien shenanigans, they managed to keep the laughs coming with few that failed.
I like that you added "Me and my JJ" in the credits. I loved that song as a kid, just like the show.
I loved watching this show when growing up. It honestly was my favorite cgi show, alongside jimmy neutron.
The part where you said “wait, a company actually making something for artistic value?” Funnily enough, I remember schrafillias productions explaining how Dreamworks made sequels for art. OMG he actually talked positively about my such a massive show for me when I was little!
This actually makes me want to rewatch more of it now :3
The best episode, I swear.
"Oh no! He's getting away!"
Zooms out and Skipper just slowly staggers away because well, he moved real slowly all the time. The way they cut the show and zoom in really works well, it's super clever.
I watched every episode of this show with my dad when I was a kid. He genuinely enjoyed it with me, and that made it a really nice bonding experience.
I was pretty sad when I found out the show was ending. I really outta go watch this again.
My dad and I got the best piece of advice from this show-
“Just smile and wave!”
*Penguins see that Enter gives them a good rating*
Skipper: Just smile and wave boys, smile and wave.
Ahhh... I really miss this one, my top 3 for sure
Description: "An oasis of quality in a sea of dark age"
Me: Truer words have never been spoken.
Aside from SpongeBob, The Penguins of Madagascar was one of my favorite Nick shows back when it aired
When it comes to Madagascar trilogy, the first movie is mediocre and the other 2 are very divisive.
No mater what movie though, the penguins were, are and will always be the best part of those movies and the show was great and didn’t ruin their reputation as the best part of the franchise. It’s like the minions but good
And it's only a group of 4, not 10 million.
The only good Nicktoon of the late 2000s (except El Tigre, maybe).
Nope that tiger is a villain.
i think El Tigre holds up better then Enter thought as it does do some things like totally ditching having a secret identity (like the only person who didn't know Manny was El Tigre by the start of the series was his mother and she finds out in the episode that debuted her and honestly Maria's arc in that series is actually pretty good) and having a unique idea and premise but there was a lot of that show that got pretty annoying really quickly and honestly did not fully live up to it's potential even in the one season it had. I would say behind Avatar and this it was probably the best Nicktoon between 2005 and 2009 as I would defend it a hell of a lot more over Catscratch.
I found El Tigre meh. It was alright white noise. Nothing to write about.
I still remember "Me and my Jay Jay"
That song is still stuck in my head.
I remember that one too Danny Jacobs has a good singing voice for king Julien in there?
The Penguins of Madagascar. Or, as Schaffrillas Productions once called it, "Minions if the people making Minions actually gave a shit".
The wierd thing about Danny Jacobs (King Julien) is that he actually can sing decently (considering that On Phineas and Ferb he sings the Doofinschmirtz evil Inc. Jingle and some other songs on the show) but in this show, he can’t because the voice he’s doing won’t let him
I didnt know danny Jacobs was a singer?
I know this isn't from the show but my favorite quote from the penguins is probably when they reach Antarctica and the scene is just them standing in a blizzard for like 15 seconds before it ends with Private saying, "Well this sucks."
I remember watching this show. I even remember some of the penguins’ reoccurring villains: Dr. Blowhole, the rats, Red Squirrel, and that one animal control dude with the sunglasses.
Officer X (mom never told him his real name)
My favorite joke from the show.

I think what makes the spy gag work is the penguins *think* they’re spies, rather than being actual spies
5:37 Skipper and Julien (and Mort I think) have their actors from the movies, and John DiMaggio took over Rico in the spinoff movie, but other than that, yes. None of the other characters retain their movie voices.
I used to be OBSESSED with this show, and this review made me feel better about my shame and my embarrassment.
I’m also surprised the quotes in this show aren’t all memes (unless they are and I’m just unaware).
there is always at least one laughing moment in every single episode, even in the bad ones
This is the show that give us the legendary kowalski toothbrush scene

The bad news is that King Julian got his own show. The good news is that even Nickelodeon apparently didn't want to air it so its on Universal Kids, meaning Enter won't have to review it for this series.
I thought the lemur spin-off was just a s funny as the penguins spin-off
