    Was given a Bashkirian kurai made by Azat Aitkulov. Thanks to your Doel den Kees van instruction video I had sound from it within 5 minutes (after trying for some hours the weeks before). I am crap, but it is the kurai sound, which I already find quite something. At least I will not be totally embarassing when my family asks me to play something.
    Going to watch this video several times and try more.
    Thanks Kees!

    Great video! After months of trying (the wrong way, apparently) I finally managed to produce a tone, because of this video. It's weak and unstable, but it's there! I am ridiculously happy with this! ;) This is really good fun!
    In a year from now, I will finally know if I 'built' my ney accurately or not!
    Thanks a lot for posting, this really made my day!

    This is an amazing, clearly explained and incredibly complete ney lesson.
    In fact, this is the first timeI think “this video deserves a good comment” and I actually give me the time to write it.
    I’m starting with the armenian duduk and my boyfriend was telling me about sounds and wind instruments nozzles when he found your video and we watched it.
    I do not have or intended to learn how to play a ney, but after your marvellous lesson I will probably try to.
    I think you have a kind and wonderful soul.

    A friend of mine who has friends in Iran shared this video with me. I am a bassoonist and have a love for Bulgarian and Hungarian sounds as well as related musics from the middle east. As a bassoonist I work with Arundo Donax all the time, and this video has inspired me to learn to use the material in a totally new way! I will be checking out your other videos and your website and you might get an order for a ney from me soon! Very intriguing instrument.

    This is outstanding that you can play Persian Ney really good and particularly traditional Persian melodies like Dastgahe Shur or Bayate Tork. The sound is clear and really nice. This video is truly amazing cause this is the first time I see a non-Iranian musician plays Ney in such a good way. You can also listen to "Hasan Kasaie, حسن کسایی" since he is the maestro of Ney in Iran.

    • @majidaghaei6009

      Kash Nikravesh. well if you have it naturally you can consider it as a trait or capability and it helps you much but you do not need that necessarily and you can use other teeth or even by other positioning styles.

      Kash Nikravesh. Thanks a lot. I am actually a traditional persion music singer and Kamanche player also, and I follow different music performances and playing styles particularly Tar, Santur, Ney, etc.

      Kash Nikravesh. If you are living in Iran you can attend to Ostad Hamidreza Nourbakhsh singing classes in which you will have the opportunity to gain the knowledge of Tahrir an exercise related drills as well. For Tar you'd better start under supervision of a professional player. I am happy for you and your sister due to contributing in playing other instruments.

    Dear persianney I have so much respect for you and your talent please tell us about how you got involve with Persian Ney and how you learned it, I’m Persian myself and bought a Ney at Esfahan about 7 years ago and I’ve tried to play it once every while but to this day I have not been able to create any sound out of it, man this is hard, it got to point that I thought my Ney might be defected until I show it to an expert and he jokingly told me that you are the one who is defected not the Ney.

    Dans un accès de frénésie difficilement imaginable j'ai acheté quatre neys persans après avoir vu cette enthousiasmante vidéo. Après quoi j'ai soufflé, soufflé, soufflé, ça fait un an que je souffle, j'en suis encore tout essoufflé, eh bien, rien, nothing, bernique, nib, que dalle ! Et je pense en avoir trouvé la raison : il n'y a aucun intervalle entre mes incisives permettant de laisser passer le moindre filet d'air (or dans toute flûte, il faut non seulement un biseau mais aussi un canal). En désespoir de cause je me suis rabattu sur d'autres nays avec lesquels je n'ai plus eu aucun souci. Mais regret, regret, regret...

    • @salhami54
      @salhami54 10 років тому +1

      Je peux vous aider, vous n'avez pas besoin d'intervalle entre les incisives.
      Tout réside dans la langue et le palais.J'ai fabriqué il y a plus vingt ans mes neys à partir de photo! puis j'ai appris tout seul.Plus tard j'en acheté mais aucun ne vaut celui que j'ai fabriqué pour la première fois .Comme quoi vous pouvez y arrivez.
      Peut-être que vous n'avez pas le bon ney parfois c'est de la camelote.Inutile de soufler comme un enragé au contraire il faut y aller calmement en changeant deux pamétres l'azimut et la hauteur ou plus précisement deux angle polaires : droite /gauche, haut/bas. Il s'agit de quelques degrés autour du zéro pas plus
      Plaquez le bout de la langue contre votre palais juste derrière les dents puis essayez de sortir un filet d'air.Normalement on entend un petit sifflement tsss tsss tsss.
      Souflez calmement.Une fois la technique acquise, passez au ney, oubliez les trous puis posez le milieu des incisives au bord droit (ou gauche suivant si vous etes gaucger ou droitier de la bouche et oui ça existe) et entourant les lèvres autour du ney sans le fermer hermétiquement : l'air doit sortir coté droit puis tsss tsss tsss
      je répète souflez calmement de manière laminaire puis le reste viendra.
      Réponds à toutes vos questions
      _______________
      Cordialement Guy

    • @zarbithechti
      @zarbithechti 10 років тому

      Ryahi mostafa Je vous sais gré de votre aimable encouragement. Comme de toute façon je n'ai jamais renoncé à la thèse du miracle je vais m'obstiner, je ne suis plus à une année près. Sur les quatre neys achetés, je suis au moins sûr de la qualité de l'un d'eux. Le tsss tsss tsss que vous dites est celui qu'indique aussi Kees van den Doel (dont je n'ai pas manqué d'aller visiter le site après avoir grimacé devant la glace) et que j'ai bien noté ; quant au fait de ne pas souffler comme un forcené, le conseil m'avait précédemment été donné. Certes !... Dès que j'arrive à quelque chose, si le cas se produit, je vous fais un petit signe.
      En toute cordialité.

    Thank you for this excellent video. I have a question: I am finding it difficult to get a focused tone. I have large front teeth which protrude below my upper lip, and I found that when I cut a small slip in the ney mouthpiece, it helps focus the sound. Is this permissable? Or will the slit in the mouthpiece create future problems in playing? I'm a beginner, and want to avoid bad habits. (The slit allows the mouthpiece to rest inside my upper lip more easily, and also the tongue has more access to the mouthpiece.) Thank you for any advice!

    You need to practice a lot. It took me several hours a day for 5 years before it became clean.
    Several hours of serious practice 365 days a year for 5 years.
    There are ney masters that don't have the clean sound and it sounds fine too, I think whatever sound you make is good. Every ney player has a different voice, just like singers.

    Kees, Ive been practising for 3 years now, Persian and Turkish Ney,,, can you please elaborate a bit mor on playing CLEAN in the higher registers. I figured that it would be something that would come in time, but I dont seem to figure it out. Raising the airpressure, or tongue pressure produces a lot of unwanted stress and hiss, and when I see you play, you play a clean high register, in full control, and smoot, can yoi pls provide more guidance for us on how to play CLEAN in the high regstrs?
