Deploying to a nuclear bunker with the UK-led mini-military alliance

- British military personnel serving with the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) have taken up their latest posting - in a nuclear bunker.
Several hundred personnel from the three branches of service have been deployed with JEF to the former US air force base at Keflavik in Iceland.
Working together with personnel from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and the Nordic nations, British personnel will add to JEF's speed and flexibility in responding to situations and helping shape Nato's future.

Really really important partnership sitting outiside NATO yet totally complimentary to it. The fact that the UK leads and is prepared to put its forces where its mouth is, is probably one of the best ways the UK can leverage its not-so-big armed forces for maximum benefit. The idea of JEF- which the commentary did not want to mention for political sensitivities- is simple: it is to respond to aggression swiftly and not have to wait for NATO to get its act together and achieve consensus. A good example of this is Article V which has to be agreed to first by everyone before anything can Actually Happen.
Love this alliance. The Northern European nations have always shared a sort of bond in my view.

Uk military been base in Iceland for long time now , USA and uk share same base
Back in the day I worked on Exercises with the USAF in Keflavik; it’s a shame that it’s all abandoned now with the American withdrawal.
The main base is still there for NATO but not the little town they had called now asbru where mostly immigrants stay now. People from iceland that lived there are now been termitated a rent so the goverment can fill it with immigrants

Seems to me that at 2:04 broadcasting not only type of network switch but even the serial number might well be a violation of OpSec/ComSec. There's also possible color coding of the cables. Just seems like a possible issue, regardless of cable colors. If that particular switch is known to have targetable bugs.... Or maybe it's a honey pot.

Norway has been in NATO since 1949
Japan, Australia, and New Zealand don't really qualify because of there geographical locations, however, they are unofficially considered in it as they are massive allies with multiple joint bases on there territories used by individual countries and NATO.
NZ is also a useless uninterested part of the five eyes Intel group, though NZ does very little to support anyone else than themselves. NZ refuses to allow US nuclear ships to dock in their country during exercises, NZ would be zero help to anyone in a time of war, they are more isolationist than the likes of Australia, or the other nations mentioned. NZ PM has openly stated their wishes to stop, or limit being party to the five eyes Intel sharing community.
Australia, New Zealand and Japan only comes into certain NATO symposiums merely as observers. If they have contributions they want to offer in the table it would have to be in special or certain terms politically, militarily, economically and humanitarianly.

Note: Resource Wars could happen in the future much like as it was (happened) back in ancient times (history could repeat itself again) - in case there’s no longer a supposedly viable and visibile threat to NATO’s existence, and integrity in their own POV and belief system, then there’s a possibility that NATO could disintegrate and lose much of their members, as the Earth’s natural resources dwindles dramatically and exponentially low, and thus each (former) members could turn against each other fighting for whatever resource is left… all resources comes with the territory; anyone keen for a Mortal Engines movie type of scenario?

On us as in the US? As an American I wouldn't mind and hope they do, it's always an honor to support the UK given our history and Americas lineage. for everytime they need us there will be a time we need them, that's what allies do.

@@devinjonathan5681 No, GB. We have had 13 years of a government that has cut our defence to the bone, we barely meet the NATO minimum of 2% GDP while the USA spend about 4.5%. Thank you for your support, I was lucky enough to do exchange training with 11 SFG, a great time and made some good friends.

@@johnallen7807 my pleasure and yeah, budgets cuts are tough to hear. I saw a GB video a few days ago about a government official going at it with a general in a meeting as the general claimed they are ready for war with Russia but the government official put him in his place about the reality of your current military strength. Point being, the higher ups are starting to realize the situation their budget cuts have put them in so hopefully with the current world events changes get made for the better. In 2014, Ukraine was not, and therefore still is not a member, so what is your point? If Ukraine had joined JEF "Before" the annexation of Crimea, then I doubt that Putin would have risked his Crimea annexation, and the later full scale invasion Ukraine. A bit like someone crashes their car, then tries to take out insurance on it afterwards, to claim lost money back. That isn't how real-life works. Though RuSSian attacks upon mostly civilians in Ukraine really should see a military reaction from the UN, but the UN is thoroughly crippled by both China and Russia, who both wish to see anarchy and destruction of all democracies.
It's not about defencing non NATO nations, it's about having an early QRF to buy time for NATO.

@@dominicreid4gg.90 It was obviously a Middle Eastern country, I just wasn't sure off the top of my head. But that makes sense considering how close they are. For example, the uk produced and delivered eurofighter typhoons to the Qatar air force last year as well as providing air security during the world cup.
