    There's only so many ways to make a pen... 😁
    Lately, it seems like I always have a Jinhao in use. Currently, a basic black plastic 51A to tame the spread of the Noodler's Heart of Darkness I have in it. 😁 So many of them are great workhorses, and at a great price. I have yet to get a 100, but it's on my short list.
    It looks like they've changed from the number 6 being a medium to a fine, at some point. Thanks for encouraging me to get one, sooner than expected. 😁

      Jinhao makes some very good pens. I enjoy this model, especially now that I've switched out the nibs.

    This was so helpful, thank you! I love what you said about knockoffs. Plus, these cellulite pens - I love some of these colors but I don't need a food nib and the higher-priced fill mechanisms... I think I'm going to go get this pink one now! 💜 have a great day 😊

      Glad it was helpful! And the pink one is fun, especially if you put a better nib in it. I've inked it up again for this week!

    The Jinhao 100 Centennial has proven to be a very nice writing pen by many. I recently found a
    brown resin 100 Centennial, which is rare for a Chinese pen. Beautiful resin. Have 11 of them in
    my collection, with 9 having a medium nib, and a couple with a fine nib. Only have one FP with a
    fude nib, and definitely not my favorite type of nib. Love med and stub nibs and will tolerate a F/M
    nib. No, I do not have a $450-$1,000+ Duofold; or pens which are high end. Each FP connoisseur has
    their personal preferences, and their budget limits. The Jinhao 100 will never be as good of a pen with
    that kind of cost difference, so I don't look at them in comparison. I don't compare clothes I purchase
    from Walmart to clothes I would purchase from Bergdorf Goodman in NY, though both are considered
    clothes. Would not be fair. Probably would be more reasonable to compare a Jinhao 100 to a
    Moonman M600s. More like the same price point: Jinhao 100- ($18-$25) & Moonman M600s ($25)
    vs Jinhao 100 - ($18-$25) - Duofold ($450-$1.000+)

      Running a UA-cam channel with advertising helps with my budget!
      This is a great pen. I was thrilled recently to try a Nemosine nib in this pen, and it turned out really well.

    My Jinhao 100 is in the Blue ice color and its fine nib is fantastic. Right now it's filled with Diamine Prussian Blue. Good work-horse sized pen.

      I saw that color on another channel. Very nice! It really is a nicely made pen, and I love the pink one!

    A fun 1st impression. And your nib swapping experiences and apparent success from the 12/3 PIU encourages me to get on with it and start swapping nibs. I have several Jinhaos gifted to me at various times over the years by my now deceased pen friend and colleague. I suspect he gave me all the difficult ones, since he was not into tinkering and repairs, but pursuing “deals.” I have 2 Sailor Fude clip less art pens I bought for

    I have a Jinhao 100 and a Kaigelu 316, but I've not used the Jinhao as much because the finish, which is a sort of yellowy-green "cracked ice" style reminds me more of army camouflage. Both pens have worked okay with wetter inks, but I've had other ink that just didn't flow well in them. Your video is a reminder that I must get round to trying a fude nib. I don't have high expectations, so I might just be pleasantly surprised.

    • @WaskiSquirrel
      @WaskiSquirrel  3 роки тому

      I'll admit that the finish has turned me off one or two pens: I remember my review of the "garbage can pen": a Kaweco Perkeo. Fude nibs are interesting, but not for everyone.

    I have the dark green marble finish Jinhao 100. Apart from the filling system, an accurate representation of the original I would say. And beautifully made, and writes well. My only complaints? As a cursive writer I prefer a No.5 nib. And, for the same reason I find it too bulky in every direction, especially when posted, but, it isn't a heavy pen. But, of course, these are my personal preferences, and shouldn't stop anyone from grabbing one of these for their collection at least. Just look at the give away price of these things. For me the Jinhao 500 should tick all of my boxes. No5 nib. Right size in all directions. I have one in exactly the same finish as the 100. My only complaint? The weight. It's so heavy. And then I have the Jinhao 601, again in the same finish. That for me with its No.5 nib is as good as it gets. Only complaint? The gold ribbed band at the base of the nib section. It does not detract from the writing experience. It just spoils an otherwise perfect pen. So what ticks all the boxes? The Baoer 388. Now if only they would do that in the same finish as my Jinhao's..... Ah well, keep on looking. Do you think the Holy Grail exists?

    • @WaskiSquirrel
      @WaskiSquirrel  2 роки тому

      I own a Baoer 388! Mine is a bit scratchy, but otherwise a good pen. But I think most of the finishes for that model are based on finishes for the Parker Sonnet.

    I only have a string of plastic Holly that I plug in and the berries light up, oh, and a string of gold tinsel.
    Thats my concession to Xmas.
    I had an Orange Jinhao Centennial and gave it to a lady friend.
    I miss it now and will buy another as a present to myself.

      I like the shimmering lights as my decoration. When they're up, the living room feels like it's lit by candles or fire.
      And, yes, this pen is worthwhile!

    Fude nibs are very versatile for daily carry pens, because of the huge range in line thickness. I work mine a lot before I’m satisfied with the smoothness at every writing angle.

    • @WaskiSquirrel

    Told ya. (keeping in mind that I am talking to a teacher) That fude nib IS like a Sharpie. It's a good way to quickly empty a converter.
    Orange is one of the original colours. The pink one is new. This year they started making some of the pens all the same colour, like Kaigelu did. And, some of the new ones have the arrow clip this year, also like Kaigelu. There are a lot of new and very nice colours out now.
    Douglas from Inquiring Minds just a video and put the new Kaigelu Eastern Calligraphy nib on his. Some sellers call it Long Knife or Long Blade. They are supposed to be like an architect nib. I have a couple on the way and a Galaxy Blue Centennial One nib is for that pen.
    There are flashes of the Blue Galaxy throughout Douglas's video. Mine might get here some day...

    • @WaskiSquirrel
      @WaskiSquirrel  2 роки тому

      It really is! I might need to try a "sparkly ink" in it!
      Interesting about the colors and the clips. I sometimes wonder how closely related the Chinese companies are related. It sometimes feels like these companies are grabbing parts from a common parts bin.
      I did see Douglas's video. It might be fun to try that nib.

    I have the Jinhao Centennial. They changed the name to the 100 a few months after I got mine. I'm not sure why. I love it. It's in my top 3. I've had different nibs in it. I think my favorite nib so far is the Conklin (m) nib. It's the one I was getting all the sheen from.

    • @WaskiSquirrel
      @WaskiSquirrel  3 роки тому +1

      I didn't know about the name change, so thank you! I haven't tried a Conklin nib, but I am enjoying a Nemosine nib and the bent nib.

    Even for a fude, that nib seems extremely wet. I'm a big fan of the mini-fude, which is very smooth.

      That nib did a great job! I ended up swapping it into the orange pen, and put a nice nib into the pink pen. Two great ones!
      I've used a few mini-fude nibs, but none of them were great.

    Thanks for the review. A lot of people seem to really like the Jinhao 100, and I may get one, once the CCP is not in de facto control of Jinhao. I see that the fude nib is interesting for some people. I used brushes for my Japanese and Chinese writing, for artistic purposes. To be honest, if I wanted a fude nib, I'd just use a brush. I don't personally find it a practical idea on a pen. The mileage of other people may vary.

    • @WaskiSquirrel
      @WaskiSquirrel  3 роки тому

      Agreed: the current Chinese government is horrific. Hard to avoid, though.
      The fude nib is fun. I've used Japanese and Chinese alternatives. It's probably less difficult than a brush, but interesting nonetheless.

    This was a good example of your wise policy of looking at pens "at all price points". I think Jinhao have done remarkably well in producing a similar looking pen to the famous Duofold. They also provide an amazing choice of colours for this pen. I wonder if this is currently their best selling fountain pen. I purchased one a few months ago and, inspired by OdE, I chose the yellow version. It's a lovely pen.
    I have other pen brands with fude nibs and, quite frankly, I don't know what to do with them. For me, they have limited use. I was very surprised how the fude in your review never stopped putting down ink despite the fact it was producing wide and very wet lines.

    • @WaskiSquirrel
      @WaskiSquirrel  3 роки тому

      This feels like a very quality pen. Switching out the nib really stepped up the pens.
      Fude nibs are quite versatile, but definitely an acquired taste.

    Thanks for this review. I have two of these both in medium, one 'Green and White' in silver trim and one 'Big Red' in gold. Both are very wet and very smooth. I do prefer the Moonman M600s as a Duofold style pen and maybe the Conklin Duragraph. Thanks for comparing to the real Duofold. Can I ask how you got the nibs out, I can unscrew the inner nib unit but cant actually manage to remove the nib and feed from this inner tube even with a high level of force?

    • @WaskiSquirrel
      @WaskiSquirrel  3 роки тому +1

      I haven't tried the two pens you mentioned. I did buy a Moonman M700 at the same time and was not impressed.
      I found it easy to get the nib out. I unscrewed the nib unit. The nib and feed were friction fit and slipped out easily.

      @@WaskiSquirrel thanks for the info. I will be more determined next time I try and remove the nib and feed. I guess at the end of the day it’s a cheap pen anyway so no harm nor foul if I damage it.

    I have a few jinhao FP. And I'm usually satisfied with their performance. I've been eyeing that pink 100 for a while now,but with Christmas soon, i have many grandchildren to think of...maybe after the holidays, my birthday is in January, so thats a good excuse ! Ihave a few fude pens, i use them in drawings.one is a 45 degrees the other 50. One is so much more comfortable to write with.
    Good video, there aren't many reviews on jinhaos.

    The Jinhao 100 is a fun pen with the fude nib. You have to keep an eye on it though, it doesn't like to be left unused for days at a time. I use fude nibs for headings and underlining. Very good value for the money.

    At $20, Jinhao 100 Centennial is a good VFM..
    I’m sure the owners of both Jinhao 100 Centennial and Parker Duofold Centennial are asking the same question : “What does Duofold have that demands a 50X price over Jinhao 100 ?” !

    • @WaskiSquirrel
      @WaskiSquirrel  3 роки тому +1

      I agree. I think the Parker Duofold is overpriced, even compared to its competition.

    • @jamesjacocks6221
      @jamesjacocks6221 3 роки тому

      It's my opinion that asking why you paid so much after the fact is not useful. I have a Centennial and it's a far better pen when compared to most Chinese pens, but against the competition (European) it is feature poor and yet well-made. In its resuscitated guise it doesn't distinguish itself enough to justify a $1000 price. Then again, the original pen wasn't a world beater, more a functional tool made famous by events. I refer to corn cobs, aviators and pens. Features seemed to be the specialty of Sheaffer back in the day. Not many on a Waterman or Parker. As they faded away Sheaffer performed its glorious sword dance. Then all was quiet at Fort Madison.

    Sour grapes alert! I know that you shouldn't say anything if you can't say something nice, but that fude nib would not suit me at all. Yuck! When you said it had some sort of magic I immediately responded - "Yes. It was obviously made by Voldemort!". To be fair, you make a great point about it being designed for writing Chinese-style characters and I can imagine it being very good for art-work. But I'll be having nightmares about the amount of ink it sloshed out (I hope you were wearing a life-jacket!), and how awkward it looked being held completely upright.
    I still love your Parker Sonnet, though.

      Fude nibs are an acquired taste. I need to get into pen and ink drawing to really appreciate one. Yes, they can really run through the ink!
