    The most important thing I learned about learning Japanese is: Do not fear using the language. It's the most important thing. You can read school text books and use apps all day long, without really making any progress. Even the usual language classes don't really help. And Heisig himself for example, who revolutionized the Kanji learning method, said that he doesn't deem school a good place to learn a language.
    Unless you start actually trying to read books or use the language otherwise, you will never really become fluent or be able to really use it. It's also a big motivator when you just sit down and try to translate a game or anything else you are actually interested in instead of these sameish practice sentences all these books seem to copy from each other.

    • @goyam2981
      @goyam2981 2 роки тому +7

      I think people that fear using the language are those that just learn in classroom settings and don't get to hear people talk in real life. If you hear people talk often it will come out naturally and so no fear.

    • @alfie2591
      @alfie2591 2 роки тому +1

      I'm completely self taught and went down the learn to read route and can somewhat translate things in my head now but I don't have the confidence to actually speak with people. Either I can't think of the words or I just get to embarrassed, do you have any tips to overcome this? I've recently been watchin a lot of tekashii's videos to try and hear spoken language but I just get lost and don't hear the words that I know written down.
      p.s my favorite way of reading is to translate my favorite japanese songs. :)

    I am from India, Most of the Indians learn Japanese in India. It’s amazing that many people study upto JLPT N2. Japanese people who are working in india helped us a lot.
    In my case, I wanted to work on Japan, So i studied Japanese very hard. I was also doing part time as a tourist guide for Japanese visitors. Which helped me to improve slang and vocabulary.

    When I moved to Tokyo the only Japanese words that I know were Arigatou & Sayonara😁. The company that I worked for provided Japanese lesson once a week but for me that was not enough. I decided to took a private Japanese language lesson 3X a week, joined the local community activities ( hiking, photography & kintsugi ) and begged my roommates to speak to me inly in Japanese. That really sped up my Nihongo proficiency.

    I just stumbled upon your site a couple of days ago.You have a natural and immediate way of putting the people you interview at ease. You look away mostly only to keep in contact with the camera person but that is in itself a plus both the camera person and the interviewee. An apparent shyness that is less threatening. From just hearing the Japanese spoken by you, I understand how rich and deep the sounds are. A truly beautiful language. You are one of the best ambassadors for your country. I taught English in France for 30 years. Your English is easy to understand and sounds as if you have been abroad in an English speaking country. If or when you go to an English speaking country, might I suggest somewhere in the Highlands of Scotland where the dialect there gives a similar richness in the sound quality as the Japanese you speak. I am not from Scotland and other people may disagree but if you hear and listen to this accent, you might agree that the quality of the vowels at least ,approachs that of your Japanese. Thank you Takashii !

    I'm Japanese. To be honest I was a little surprised when I saw this video. Because in my daily life, when I meet foreigners who speak Japanese, it is almost always foreigners of color and I rarely meet caucasians who speak fluent Japanese. However in this video, the caucasians are speaking more fluent Japanese than the foreigners of color.

    I am currently learning japanese on my own and I am fascinated with the language and will say this " Start practicing speaking even if it's by yourself or your dog or the air😅😅 this is crucial on improving. My native tongue is Spanish(supengio) but I am also fluent in Eigo(English)and honestly I've never been more excited in my life about learning something as I am with Japanese. Also guys,I am 54😅but... mastering 2 languages and being able to interpret simultaneously between the 2 is a huge advantage when learning another language. The brain is just like any muscle of your body, it needs to be exercised for optimum performance. Now I am not learning kanji just yet bcs it's useless if you can't understand conversation; IMO as an interpreter the writing and reading come easier when you can speak and comprenhend better, at least that's how it worked for me. Ppl learned differently. Arigato Gozaimasu Takashii❤❤❤

    マジか。最初の黒人さんマジ感動した。
    たぶん街でこの人初めて見かけたら「この人は絶対日本語しゃべれない」と思うわ。

    I'm still laughing at the 16:50 part! Who would expect someone to learn Japanese in a 試行錯誤 manner, after watching all those previous interviews! Amazing.

    Living with the Japanese is the most effective way to learn Japanese. For example, Mongolians come to Japan to become sumo wrestlers, and they live with Japanese people 24 hours a day during their training so they can speak Japanese fluently in a few years.
