Storm with actualized magic and the power cosmic unfortunately feels like the type of thing that's cool for a moment but then turns into her being sidelined because she can't have believable challenges. There's a reason they've kept Storm with non-superhuman physicality to match the massive scope of her powers.

Storm hasn't yet tapped the full potential of her Omega level mutant powers, that alone is terrifying imo.. add that to her magical side and she would easily be multiversal.
I love that Frenzy was with her iN THiS issue, Frenzy was actually with Storm on ARAKKO. I need STORM to have her own personal team oF International MUTANTS 🖤🤎💛 Like Sunspot, Gentle & Frenzy as bodyguards, and Assistants, Synch , Sunfire, Jon iRONFiRE, the other Cipher , Tempo, Multiple Man, and The healer Triage just to name a few. They don't All have to be MUTANTS., throw iN the inhuman Mosaic.

The Art, The Power Display, The Humanity, The Love, The Kindness, The Compassion so on and so Forth. Was brought to light in this issue.
This just shows why people LOVE Storm. Storm claiming to be the protector of Earth but then reveals the truth about the Oklahoma Destruction was a bit of a TOUGH situation. But Storm handled it perfectly and the only way she could have handled it.
And I love Storm using her brain and surroundings. How she used a door to block the radiation and Hug the poor little boy. And comforted him. Was the Chef’s KISS
And Storm going cosmic which she already could. Makes this so much better.
I have read this issue about 15 times. It’s TOO DAMN GOOD 10/10

@@afro_princess1671 Storm use to not be OP. It wasn't until the last several years that she started to become OP and this new series is hinting at that they are going to make her even more powerful. Carol first became OP when she became Binary. Then her powers were scaled back when she became Warbird. Her powers became OP again once she became Captain Marvel.

Storm has always been powerful since her creation, if you go back to the Claremont era of comics and read them you can see just how powerful Storm has always been, we have things like: Rogue Storm, later on being the only mutant who breaks down through X-man's defenses while 10 Omega telepaths couldn't penetrate his mind or other X-men, quite powerful mind you, couldn't even harm him physically, yet she did with ease and then we have her heal the Trion Dimension, among many other feats like Galactic Core, awakening to Hadari-Yao form, and so on. Storm was always one of the most powerful characters in the entire Marvel Universe, and while she cannot match the true power houses yet like Thor, Hyperion or Adam Warlock she has always held and brought forward unbelievable power on galactic and cosmic level. Don't let mere 15 years of bad writing from 2000 to 2015 ruin your interpretation of how truly powerful Storm has been since her creation. Comparing those 15 years, which are part of her almost 50 years of existence, and 30+ years of constant power show, is just wrong.
@@The92Ghost There is a difference between being powerful and being over powered. Storm was always powerful, but she hasn't been over powered until the last several years. A lot of modern day writers think that in order to make a hero more cooler and exciting is to over power them. That is a mistake.

Blerd, you had me choking on my coffee with "Mutie with the Hard R" and "Whats up my, Mutie!"
This issue did a great job of establishing why Storm would be kept separate from X-Men shenanigans. Simply joining the Avengers didnt feel like it had to restrict her, but it makes good sense that her honesty alienated her from her X-peers. Good moral dilemma given to set that up. Some of the other titles' separations felt unearned coming out of uniting to defeat Orchis and the AIs.
I think she is more like Wonder Woman than Superman on a lot of aspects. You said it yourself she defends truth and justice, just like WW (one of her series was called Truth and Justice, If i remember correctly.) Great review, as always.

"Truth, Justice and the American Way" later updated to "Truth and Justice" to reflect his more global status, is literally Superman's tagline in and out of continuity. Has been for decades.

Her magical potential was explored twice during the Krakoan era twice, so I was definitely hoping that would be part of her upgrade going forward.
She didnt know right off. Wasn't sure. That's why she made sure with Iron Man.
This will be a good power upgrade for Ororo.

Imagine a crossover or series with Ororo and Jean called ‘The Adventures of Storm and Phoenix’! I enjoyed this issue quite a bit. It is the one I’ve been the most excited about from this era and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

The characters are gorgeous. Everything else? Meh, kind of looks like a webtoon scrolling comic where very little effort is put onto sets or background. But that's just me.
i think it the writers(chris claremont) of storm says that storm and the phoenix are equal in terms of power!
Really good first Issue. The Comics signalling death will keep coming for her just let's me know she's about to become more broken😅💯. Personally I wouldn't want to see her become a herald like Silver Surfer is but moreso in a meta sense if she does unlock more of herself.. Something akin to a Storm being old as he is etc😅. I really prefer her powers being self gained/natural. Alotta older comics even showed she never really went all out since she identifies that lvl of power possibly eroding her mind like the Phoenix.

This was a great first issue. This knocks it out the gate from jump. Looking forward to the rest of the series. I got majestic from this comic.

But that is actually planned since X of Swords run. She received the death taro cart which meant that she will go through a huge change. I am happy to see Marvel following on that, even if it is 2-3 years later. :D
Mama Storm is so pretty and refined.
I'm apparently in the minority of hardcore Storm fans that enjoys Glass Cannon Storm...I think she's at her best when it's shown that she has to consciously perceive and block or redirect incoming attacks. And she has the powerset to block or redirect most incoming attacks. AND she has multiple forms of highly advanced perception abilities which should allow her to sense most things. What Storm needs is a training arc not a fourth powerset (mutation, magic, godhead).

I have always wondered why no one picked up and elaborated on Storm’s evolutionary transformation I that Dr Doom story. She was showing fades of Phoenix level potential. Then, back to the grind and nothing.
I wonder if Eternity saw something in Storm when she was the host for it in the Fantastic Four and it has just been waiting for the right moment to return to her? I hope so, I’m tuned in to this comic for sure!

We know why Galactus has heralds, not sure why Eternity needs one.
Good video Blerd and the writer did so good and the art it just amazing, but we have to also question the lack of wits of Storm that was downplayed when she has been a hero with the highest wits and skill written many times. The first mission lacked power display that was already established in past comics. Protective pressure force field(to prevent harm blasting at her), radiation resistance(X-men 132 I bleieve) and electrical brain impulse manipulation that she done to Sinister that she could have done to the boy instead to disable him without killing him, but using a door to get close to him. Also, as a leader, Storm wouldn't so casually announce the truth putting mutants as a target again WITHOUT knowing the full reason of how the boy got there, why he was there and any foul play which was lacking in the first issue. We saw in Krakoa and Arrako how protective she was with mutants and a speaker of SOL. Her wits and decisions were on 10. Making her like Xavier who put mutants at risk because of humans is NOT her. Yes she is for ALL PEOPLE but she would have done her homework then announced. Maybe this will be explained later, but that boy didn't get there by chance.
I would love to see a more permanent expansion to her powerset that’s still her mutant power (potentially via her godhead), essentially she can manipulate electromagnetic energied and all matter in a gaseous/aqeuous state; and all the reactions between. Theoretically she could shape/manipulate stars and gas giants on a galactic level. Equivalent to a herald of galactus. Her magic potential is interesting in that sense as well.

The writer of the comic says she literally fights Oblivion with a new weapon. She is Eternity’s Avatar much like Silver Surfer was for Galactus.
Truth hurts especially in today's climate I see why Storm did it the same reason Wonder Woman killed Maxwell Lord to save Superman they are the ones who will always cut the BS and do the right thing

Plot twist... Storm's mother is Gaia. I have the whole story and it all makes sense.
If she does get a power boost I hope it comes with the ability to transform into an elemental being that allows her to go beyond her normal physical limitations. You mentioned Rogue Storm, but there was also an alternate version of Storm from Earth-32098 who became an elemental being. It would be cool if they went that route, and it would make sense considering how they seem to showcasing how she's currently still physically vulnerable despite how powerful she is.
They better make her more powerful than Jean and Phoenix.

I’m so Glad to see frenzy and Storm together alone and not togetheras in the mix of several other heroes. I’m so tired of her being the only Black woman in the room having to be friends with…well interracial friendships other than Psylocke. But a Goddess to Goddess (in the actual sense that all Black Queens are Goddesses)..real sista to sista bonding. The closest we’ve ever gotten to this was Storm and Rogue but instead of a “Bruka” we have an actual “Soulaan”!
Frenzy is one of my recent new favorite character who I moved up above even Gambit (or equal too) who’s under Storm who’s at the highest point…their is no one else above Storm for me.
Radiation harming Storm to that degree is questionable but hey it leads to a better story…one she definitely needs. I’ve always liked Captain America and his sense to protect everyone, which is rare thing in real life, to represent true justice and to always do what is right because at the end of the day it is the right to do no matter what. I’ve seen this in Storm since her first public speech long ago when they threw soda cans at her and again when they were more excepting of her. She has always been DC’s version of Superman in that sense and in the sense of heroism. Of the entire Marvel universe only she and Captain America carry that spirit.
A long time ago a younger me would be excited to see Storm level up to OP levels such as Hulk, Thor, Captain Marvel, Scarlet Witch and Phoenix but now I see that Storm has a true strength that I see in all Black women who stand tall through the pain, hurt, suffering, hate, fear and harm that comes to those around her. That strong will to be their strength.
Storm has attained Onega status, broke the sound barrier and can reach lightning speeds, then she physically manhandled Vulcan which shows her fine control over energy and she summoned planet crushing pressure as well as created a weather system and sun on an alien planet. I’m satisfied but if they can increase her powers without taking away from her character then I’m for it. I would hate to lose interest in my favorite character like I did with Jean and Wanda and ain’t interested in being interested in them ever again, then y not.
Storm entered in as the most powerful before everyone else began to gain extra powers outside of their powerset m, except for Polaris, and Storm has turned away the chance to become more powerful many times already. It’s about time and she deserves it. I just hope that this series can deliver and not dwell in a past we’ve seen a thousand times already (these writers of late are definitely the definition of lazy and talentless). Rushing and lacking both knowledge and having no imagination.
I feel the same way, she was very powerful since day one. But Charles tried to make her believe she wasn't smh.

After ruling a planet, Storm goes back to basic dull narrative. Storm deserves better. But definitely got it with the Krakoa/Arakko arc.

Plus, why do you think they put her in Atlanta, another location known for a significant black population. At this point, it's hard for them to beat the rumours because if these things were coincidental then they sum into one hell of a coincidence. A massive coincidence. But I'm waiting for them to prove me wrong.

I mean but to your point… they make it a point to remind us in EVERY comic that she can die. At this point it needs to change. It’s like a broken record. The only real difference she has with other heroes is that she can die at a human level. If she didn’t and wasn’t a glass cannon, she would demolish…

I find it weird that she get effected by the radiation. Storm is actually immune to it, she flew near the sun and was using the sun's energy to destroy Sentinels.
Also Storm has some sort of durability. She has survived explosions, tanged hits from strong beings like the Hulk etc..
I hope they can explore her ability to boost her physical capabilities, like Magneto does. Would make sense. And its time Storm uses more force field...

From what the writer has said and from the solicit of #2, the radiation is not natural.
Exactly what the rest said, as per writer's words this is not just any normal radiation. Storm's indeed resistance to most radiation afflictions, but when the Universe is against you as per the Comic's words and the writer's words clarifying that this is not normal radiation seems like very strong writing to me with clear idea in mind.

Maybe it's LITERAL like Storm's mutant gene is masking an ETERNAL GENE and when she dies Storm will be reborn in an ETERNAL BODY this happened with Thanos in the Eternal series despite him being half Deviant
Thanos has two Eternal parents (that's actually the problem). But, he has a mutation which also gives him Deviant traits.

I always found it so stupid that Storm can survive insane shifts in temperature and atmospheric pressure and tank direct hits from lightning but somehow has "average durability" and a bullet could kill her.
Oh, I GET IT it's about Thor.... Thor is ascending to a new position amongst Marvel's Gods he's no longer going to be The God of Thunder or even The God of Storms what that position is isn't clear but a REPLACEMENT is going to be needed and Storm is a prefect fit for that role

I love Storm but honestly she is already one of a handful omega level mutants in existence. She’s one of the most powerful beings on the planet or anywhere else. She’s had more titles or positions of power than any other mutant. What more does she need? Can’t we tell a story with her as is?

Why does Storm need new powers set? I almost feel that sometimes, when characters are given power upgrades to the point of when it turns into a gimmick. Do comics really need these types of gimmicks to grab readers' attention when the easiest way to do that is by writing quality stories?

The debris and radiation thing is infuriating because she used to be able to put up forcefields and radiation protection just a few years ago. Physically, Storm doesn't need to be a glass canon. What she needs is emotional vulnerability - -like I was not too fond of the way she reacted to Frenzey's PTSD moment. Also, the flashy clothes, the coming clean act, and the Atlanta setting show they are preparing her for Congress. What a downgrade that'll be. Plus it should be Master Order showing interest in Storm as the Hadari Yao, not Eternity. I'm interested in an epic tale akin to Ewing's Thor or Orlando's Wanda, not this round of cosmetic storytelling
Once more, the radiation poisoning is not natural/normal, Storm is immune to those, it is supernatural. Just be patient and let it cook. The writer already confirmed that her radiation poisoning is not natural.

@@StormTheeOmega Storm hasn't shown emotional vulnerability for years. Sometimes she gets hurt, physically, but then gets a power up and she comes back hitting hard. I'm not against Storm powering up. In fact, I'm all for it. But she needs character development beyond the tough mother nature goddess look.
A character can be powerful yet vulnerable. It's an interesting duality that allows for richer storytelling. There was a bit if anguish when she learned that her suspicions were true that it was the mutant who caused the disaster. But other than that, we don't see her show any emotions even when she sees that some of the ppl she's saving are Orchis believers.
Storm should be allowed to experience negative emotions sometimes. Writers shouldn't be afraid to give her emotional vulnerability. It's their job to show us why she's entitled to feel the way she feels and also work to conquer them.

I find this totally hilarious. The writer probably thinks that making her powerful is going to make her leave her mark in the Marvel universe. First off, beyond just being powerful, the character's story arcs actually need to mean something and be able to leave a lasting impact. Can anyone name even a single Storm-centric arc that has left an impact in both the X-Men and the greater Marvel universe? You'll probably come up short, bar her marriage to T'Challa which in the long run absolutely changed nothing. That's how laughably significant she is. Take a look at Rogue, a far less powerful character but has had a few storylines that even non-die-hard Marvel fans know about, whose events have influenced her development and even those of a few other characters. In terms of power and power levels, Storm doesn't even have any originality. She's a far weaker Thor and Scarlet Witch knockoff and a Hickman Era omega-level mutant. She's practically an afterthought. It's like she's only being given what other characters have already had for a long time.

I liked the art, but I didn't like the story. Over powering Storm and turning her into Marvel's version of Wonder Woman and making her a politician will not sell and will cause the character to become less popular.
