Makes no sense to unselect or not be able to use the line work for horizontal offsets yet the the line work is still displayed poor operator would be tearing thier hair out wondering why they can't get an offset
you just click and hold down on any line to select it for horizontal offset. You can also isolate just the layer.. say "back of curb" and then select "auto snap" and it will automatically use which ever line the edge of your blade is closest to. You can still add a horizontal offset in either scenario.
