I was at the match tonight. An Ireland fan, I sat between 2 Frenchmen and a Kiwi Couple. One of the French guys noticed a birthday greeting I received on my phone. It was my 60th birthday and my wife gifted me Ireland’s quater final. Unprompted, those strangers bought me drinks throughout, discussed every move and play. It was epic. Wonderful. Life affirming. Joyous. A sporting battle no one deserved to lose. An occasion at the end of a week of the most terrible news and events around the world. It might appear frivolous and meaningless given the dreadful events elsewhere but all involved - players, coaches, administrators and organisers- deserve the highest praise for what millions were able to enjoy tonight, from Paris, still the city of light when all is dark in the world…

No, we'll lose too much over the next cycle. @@stevenh7842 easy there tiger..I watched the same game
If new Zealand hadn't been down to 14 for 20min they would've been out of sight. Granted if Ireland hadn't had the line out issues MAYBE they would've sneaked it. Reality is Ireland never really opened them up the way they could seemingly do when they needed to..even with 14.
@@dairefinnie1533 we'll have to agree to disagree then. I made a valid point so relax
Almost there, that’s what makes it so hard..I feel sad for the Irish players and fans..we won’t easily forget the joy and great memories you brought to us ..Thank you all.☘️☘️☘️.
Heart broken for this Irish team. Nothing but pride. Our lads should be so so proud. They did Ireland and their families proud.
Stop talking to much you guys and learn from springbok and New Zealand
And just like that, humility
@@funnymoments-tm2wp Classy as always....
@@benrawson007 who knew people from New Zealand where total arrogant mindless fools who can't help but gloat about a tight win, arrogance at its tip top finest, thank god Spring Bokke or France will smash them anyway won't have to listen to the newly crowned "worst fans in rugby"
@paddyleblancSpell “3 World Cups” for me will ya? 🤣🤣🤣🏆🏆🏆🇿🇦
As an avid AB supporter I really felt that this Irish team had what it took to beat us in this QF and go on to win their inaugural RWC , my heart goes out to you guys , we , the AB's put on a very solid performance both on attack and in defence , so I am incredibly proud of the boys in black today , the Irish will come back stronger and who knows , may be next time ?
No, we'll lose too much over the next cycle. Maybe we can get replacements to a high enough skill level and intergrate them into our structure but because we played the same side over and over again they won't have the experience in World Cups to really expect to win it. Maybe get to a semi. 2031 is the next and last realistic opportunity.
These two gents are the epitome of rugby…immense talent with humility and so humble. Proud of them and the team. Shoulder to shoulder ☘️
That was epic, half of me is drowning my sorrows, the other reveling in a hard won victory, thankyou all, especially you Mr Sexton, legendary, you've given us all so much joy, I have no words to describe how much I've enjoyed watching you cut the opposition up, you're an absolute pain in the rectitude to counter, endless respect. Oh, and to keep the custom going, for good straight up banter and a touch of the Craic, started by a certain Australian gentleman, and now passed on with the utmost respect and admiration. Four more years.
As a kiwi I respect the Irish the team will lean from this your a legend Johnny
Respect back to you 👍👍
What a game of rugby by two titans of the game condolences Ireland you guys have been the team to beat the last couple years and it was always going to take a mammoth effort to beat you guys hold yr head high guys
Congratulations New Zealand unbelievable win ❤
Two great men representing Rugby and Ireland. The Irish team showed great courage and skill right to the last second against great opposition. With a tiny bit of luck we could have beaten New Zealand.Very proud of everyone wearing the green on that pitch giving their very heart and soul.
Fair play Andy Farrell, you’re a great man. We take it on the chin and move on. That’s sport, you can’t control everything. NZ were eyeing this game for months and it showed. They knew we’d be playing some bigger games in the group stages and saw their opportunity..fair play to them.
Ireland, your coach is a gentleman and legend!!!! Shame this was a quarter final, not the final. As an AB fan seeing Johnny's child crying was heart breaking. Sport can be cruel. Great game AB's despite being tagged the worst AB team ever.
NZ were great last night all over the pitch. Hope you go on to win it now.
hats off to the irish team and the supporters, best game of rugby ive seen in quite some time, well done ireland the rest of the rugby world salute you all
Thank you Irish for bringing a great game and so much respect for your team and the kiwis for putting their heart in your jersey. Great committment and dedication running yourselves flat. The Irish green jersey will be held in awe and respect of any AB player and know it won't be an easy game.
Ye are national HEROES johnny and Andy ❤ nobody died..ye brought 🎉 each and everyone brought an unbelievable smile..people sick..you gave them something to smile live for!! Agree with o'gara..not a posh sport anymore 😊 met o'gara earls in an airport one time very humble ....after their losss..please be proud 👏 🎉🎉🎉 how hard ye might cry as a team..but pat each other on the back insurmountably...You all gave us back Charton era..go Andy you are truly special 🎉xx
As a proud Kiwi and all black fanatic. Ireland you are a top quality team. You're not world number 1 for nothing. Onwards and upwards. And can't wait to watch more of our mega clashes.
They weren't #1 for nothing. Past tense now.
Farrell was impressive.
@@Moamanly they still are number 1 by a little bit
@@bigh2710 Are they? If so, I stand corrected.
@@Moamanly no im wrong you're correct. We did actually take top spot. My mistake. UP THE ABs
@@bigh2710 Mate, the world rankings are pretty meaningless really. I don't give a rat's either way.
Definitely up the ABs though! ;-)
A game worthy of the final . As an Enland fan , I can only dream of the day when Andy Farrell coaches our team . Respect and commiserations to Ireland .
Fantastic match, one of the best ever. Bad luck Ireland, could have gone either way.
I think the fact we scored first made the difference, you were playing catch up from then on.
Well done. Great game.
Best coach in the game mad respect to Farrell and the Irish from nz
Agreed... All Blacks fan...
Until razor starts?
Bravo Ireland Bravo!! You gave us the best game of footy for a looong time. There’s always next WC. Great coach and a great captain!! Thank you from this dyed in the wool All Blacks, Kiwi born and bred, fan!!
Nice one, Alan. Fair play
Irish eyes are crying today, but kudos for the spirited way Ireland fought to the last seconds in that match, you can walk with your head high and proud for what you did on the day ! Also, Bravo to the All Blacks.
That was a true rugby spectacle. It had so much hype pre-game and could have fizzed, particularly as the cards started to come out. Fortunately it stayed an absolute arm-wrestle to the last second. Well done to both teams. Congratulations to my AB's, that was just the type of big, tough game we needed.
To the best team congratulations New Zealand 🇳🇿 you have proven that you can truly stand the test of time & continue to be World class champions 🏆
To Ireland 🇮🇪 you played well throughout the RWC 2023 keep your spirits up🙏🙏for future RWC🙏🙏God bless you🙏🙏
I hope JS realises what a player he has been and how much he has given to rugby fans all over the world. Massive respect for him to come out and speak like this when he he obviously devastated.
Overatted
Thanks to all the team, players panel and coaches and back room staff. Ye did us proud. Very unlucky not to win but you all did us, the greatest fans in the world proud. We all feel for you the team and the coaching staff. On and upwards in the future.
Very well handled and well spoken by the coach and captain.
Great coach! Johnny great leader and awesome group of guys! Much respect. ABs fan
As a Springbopk, i feel deeply for the Irish people and team - you were and are an absolutely awesome team and a credit to your country and the game of rugby.
Nice one, Matthew. Hope to see the Boks win it now 😊
Big thank you to AF, to his management team and to the entire squad. A special thank you to JS for his dedication and his effort for our country. And i wish him and his, a long, happy and healthy retirement. Thank you AF and the entire team/squad for the last few years.
Congratulations to both teams it was not only a classic match but showed to the world what a wonderful sport rugby is AF & JS were wonderful take credit how they handled the interview 👍🏉🇨🇮
Thinking of O'Driscoll , O'Gara and Sexton.. rugby greats that never tasted the ultimate of World Cup victory.
Most great players dont

Well done Ireland ❤from nz
Congratulations to the AB really hope you all go on to win. What happened to the Irish fans in the 2nd half. Not a sound. Our boys should be proud come home now and hold your heads up high. We are all still behind you. 🇮🇪
Yep go home and cry into your beer you were arrogant and forgot your place.
Pressure
Omg Ireland, what a heart racing game, heads high what a battle -you may have lost the game today but won our ultimate respect in NZ.
Nothing but pride for this Irish team , they play great running rugby and a couple of inches either way and we are in the semi , was a great game and i guess in world cups there is certainly no luck of the Irish
Well done 🎉🎉 Andy you gave everything to everyone 👏 👍 especially Johnny 👏 adversity through strength..you gave the nation..young old..Ireland Jackie Charlton ..exceptional 👏 xx
Am an Aussie of Irish and Welsh heritage on my dad’s side. Been to he ancestral towns in both countries. Loved it. Hard to see Ireland go to the top of rugby and miss out on the semi.
Ireland have changed rugby. Their formations, no one has in attacking rugby. So many options. How they’re so organised playing this style is insane. Great tournament Ireland. From an ABs fan, you guys also deserved to win. Wish this was the World Cup final! It was worthy of the occasion. Ireland vs All Blacks.
Best hands, hands down that Ireland have and their angles of attack and options are insane, I was comparing them to ABS and I was amazed in the skill Ireland have. Kiwi dude here. Glad we won, hope we carry on your teams legacy in this cup to the cup final winners. But if I was put in Ireland shoes I’d put my hope in France to represent northern hemisphere
Both teams did a fantastic job on the day.
Congratulations to our abs.
Respect to Ireland
Ireland are a fantastic team. The whole team should be proud 💪
Overrated team
Proud of your quarter final. Well done lads.
@@Joe-ns4cg Not at all, the AB's were just better at the night
Ireland managed to trail on the scoreboard THE WHOLE GAME against a team that made more mistakes and got carded twice xD come on bro, that's laughable
Think about it, imagine playing yourself in a team right, and you lose like this against a team that had to play the most crucial 20 minutes with a yellow card xD I would feel like a tard@@Sam_wilson919
Both team absolute warriors ❤& ✊
So heartbreaking for the boys .but we held our heads high in the world cup. I hope that andy stays wit ireland
Sack him😂
And thats why the small countrys are Giants at the game... much respect Andy Farrell from NZ
Hard luck Ireland, such a great team. I honestly didnt think the we AB's were gonna win.
You boys were fierce and accurate tonight. Well done an best of luck for the rest of it. Ardi had his best game for you guys in ages. Phenomenal player
Then your not a true ABs supporter. I don’t care what the rankings say, we will always be the best in the world until another nation dominates rugby for 100 years like the ABs have then we will always be the best
@@Vae07 Been an All Black supporter for almost 50yrs. Been to two WC's, bought many AB's shirts. There's a difference between belief and arrogance... but thanks for the pep talk dad.

Les phases de jeu étaient superbes et c'était un match magnifique a regarder.
En tout cas célébrez les a leur retour a la maison, ils le méritent

Ireland can and should hold their heads up high. Andy Farrell has become such a statesman in world rugby and Irish rugby in particular.
It’s easy to say from this distance, but Jonny’s exit tinged with sadness should be remembered with a huge amount of pride. He embodies all that is good in the game.
You guys played incredibly well throughout the whole world cup. Well done from SA!
Well said AF. Very respectful and intelligent responses.
Unlucky Andy, Johnny and the Irish squad and set up. SUPER proud of ye and this journey. Enjoy retirement Johnny, youre achievements are already cemented in history
How was it unlucky? Ref gave them the "luck of the Irish". They fell apart. Game over!

It still hurts today 😢 we were in it to win it. Fair play All Blacks for showing up. Yours truely, Irish Fan.
Fantastic game from both teams, The way both these guy spoke is excellent sometimes the way a losing team behave and hold our selves after a loss shows the type of men they really are and both these men have held them selves in an amazing fashion.
What a class act Andy Farrell is.

keeps going. Hold your heads up high
Great game by both teams . Love the Irish when not at war
Kiwis love the Irish...thanks for the game, that was an incredibly hard test match!!
As a fanatical Springbok supporter, I can't tell the Irish fans how heartbroken I was to see you lose last night. So many times, you came back to the brink...but that is why out of all the teams, I fear the All Blacks the most. Hoping Ireland win the World Cup one day soon. The Irish people deserve nothing less. Thanks for two of the greatest matches this World Cup. Against the Springboks. And now against New Zealand. May the elusive luck of the Irish visit you guys at the next World Cup.
Jonny Sexton you us as supporters and as a nation nothing. You have given nothing but 100% always. You have led from the front and in doing so have given us some amazing moments to remember and have lifted our expectations higher than ever. Feel what you feel now but in time you will look back with pride about your contribution to Irish sport. I look forward to what you will bring in the future. Thank you
New Zealand fans are celebrating this win while others feel your defeat and loss Ireland you are an amazing team truly respected by the masses and thank you for a wonderful test match see you in 4 years time good luck Johnny Sexton all the very best ❤
Thanks for being a great NH team, that just got schooled by a SH team.😂
Great leaders these two blokes. What a game! Be proud boys! Loads of love from SA!
Ireland should be proud of the lads that took the MIGHTY ALL BLACKS right to the wire. It's a game to be remembered for two best ieams in the world playing their hearts out. KIA KAHA IRELAND! 💚💚💚💚💚
