  • Bass and flounder fishing on the famous Inch beach, County Kerry Ireland with harbour ragworm for bait.
    A break in the weather meant Connie and myself could get to Inch for some bass fishing. unfortunately the big ones eluded us but there was plenty of sport to be had they were all released.
    I am sponsored by Yuki and some of the yuki products have been sponsored.

    Great video! Brought back wonderful memories of when I fished Inch nearly 50 years ago and camped in a small site behind the strand where I used to dig plenty of lug at low tide. I had similar catches with plenty of bass and flounders, some of which we used to cook up on our camping stove. The flounders were delicious, much tastier than those caught on muddy ground. Great to see that the beach is still productive.

      Hi David I'm really thrilled that my little video stirred up those great memories. It certainly sounds like they were great times. There is still a little site behind it but it has a chip wagon so I assume there isn't much fish being cooked up on the camp stoves any more

      Yes, the memories I have are still vivid. The campsite was run by an eccentric Welshman who lived in a broken down, undrivable but habitable VW camper van. He was an ex army captain and had delivered his wife in Wales an ultimatum to the effect that he was off to Ireland to live an independent life and she could accompany him If she wanted but she declined his kind offer! He used to run the site on behalf of the farmer who owned it and collected the fees from the campers and supplemented his income by putting some long lines out in the estuary and selling his catch. He used to regale us with his stories and even taught us how to make marmalade which he demonstrated in the toilet block one evening- a bizarre interlude indeed. We asked him about getting bait because we had not brought a fork with us and he said that we need to go and knock on the door of a local pensioner who would show us the ropes. I’ll never forget what happened. This gnarly old codger answered the door in his dressing gown and said he would be delighted to go and dig some lug with us. He re-emerged a few minutes later dressed in a smart tweed suit no less with his shovel in hand and gave us a lesson in the estuary on how to trench dig and keep the water out of the hole he had just dug. He seemed to be in a state of ecstasy and talked about his shovel, yes it was a shovel, in terms of almost religious reverence. I have never seen anyone dig so fast- he would have put a JCB to shame-so we concluded that he must have perhaps been a navvy in his youth. Abiding memories indeed and my apologies for rambling on a bit but I thought they’d bring a smile to your face.@@Inshore_Angler

    Nice to see you back again Chris, it`s been a while. I remember having a similar session on Inch back in November 2011. The beach was stacked out with schoolies and the intervention of a nice sized Sea Trout but what stood out that day was the temperature, we were stood fishing in tee shirts! I bet that dose not happen to often. Absolutely the best video I`ve seen for some time, you showed Inch and the surrounding area off at it`s best, please don`t leave it so long till the next one. Best wishes Gordon.

      It was tempting to go watch it too but the fishing was fantastic away from the weed. I'd 18 flounders and a bass that night. Ideally you want a bit of a surf but the lads down to my right had a bass each about 5lb

    What distance were you putting those baits and did you use a grip or rolling lead?
    Very similar to a beach 10 minutes from me and people do catch bass n flounder but I've never fished it for bass and those who have won't share these details like its a state secret..

    • @Inshore_Angler
      @Inshore_Angler  11 місяців тому

      Lol ya it's definitely secret service with some lads. I was using the yuki double pyramid 113g lead. Maybe 60m kind of aiming for where the swell was picking up not that there was much

      @@Inshore_Angler I've been told on certain beaches aim for the 3rd breaker out but its not really possible on beaches really slow shelving like the one near me cuz you'd land in about 4 inches of water mind you sometimes that's deep enough, I imagine that method 3rd breaker is more for quick shelving beaches like a 30 yard cast puts you in 15 to 20 feet of water, I've been told they like to cruise in the choppy water for sandeels n spratts being churned up. I guess I'll be taking a couple rods trying different methods n distance.

      @@Inshore_Angler did you ask about a recommendation for a reel under £100 ?
      I can't recall if it was you or another video but I can recommend the JAXON ATLANTIC SURF 700, Excellent reel for me I bought it in January and it cost £54.99 and I don't have a bad thing to sag about it. Works for both distance casting off any beach or for spinning of a rock mark or for pier fishing, good all rounder.
