Great Video on mangroves!!!! Perfect info on care !!! Keep up the great work ! Can't wait to see the progress of the fish room !!! Ps . Digging the stash!
Thank you! Tried to keep it cut and dry and not go into too much crazy details but still get some care across! The fish room is slowly progressing lagoon may finally be getting wet here soon... appreciate you Ben! The stache is no doubt a king tide trademark LOL!
Thanks for the video! I brought mangroves propagule from the coastal and try to grow them in my house in the slope of a mountain, using freshwater. Trying to make a freshwater aquascape with mangroves inside, filled with beta fish...Greetings from Indonesia 🇮🇩
Just stumbled across this video Blaine! I don't know if you remember me from this summer but love that your content popped up on my page! I just posted my first "real" video this week!
I am fortunate to live in an area where mangrove pods wash up on the local beach. I grabbed a few a couple weeks ago and placed them in fresh water. They are growing roots on the bottom and whatever you call the thing on top LOL. It looks like a thorn but leaves may grow out of it one day. I'm going to grow in a bowl, didn't think about turning it into a fish aquarium until I saw your video. Thanks for the video to help get me started!
I Loved the round vase you r using. I had 11 mangroves seedling from ebay 6 yrs ago which I grew them in my salt water aquarium. 4 months ago I shutdown my aquarium and I am using it in fresh water vase. In fresh water the growth is faster compared to a very very slow growth in a salt water. You only need to spray fresh water on the leaves on a weekly basis whether they are in salt or fresh water. I am hoping my setup will produce some seedlings but not sure how large the plant has to be before I starts producing them. I would love to see an update on your setup.
I'm not a reefer, but I have an obsession over these little trees! Want to get different species but that has to wait for now, and I have mine growing in a Home Depot bucket! They are red mangroves and growing in fresh water cause its easier 😁
This is a fun setup. Once you get is to full salinity and get the lagoon going again are you going to cycle that water through the mangroves during water changes?
Originally what I was doing ever so slightly when I first received these but after the move I kept them in straight RODI to minimize and stress for them... now that we have settled and the lagoon gets going with some nutrient enriched water I’ll start adding it over and trying to get them to salinity! As for now though just going to enjoy them as they are! Thanks for stopping and checking this one out!
Hey there, nice overview, can you give some tips how often to change water or make ir clear when it gets dirty over time. Which and how often do you use fertilizer?
Thanks for checking out the video! I change the water now whenever I feel suit and the water has clouded slightly. I’ll make up some water to the matching salinity of the bowl (1.010 specific gravity) and then use a small hose covered by mesh to remove water and no shrimp! No fertilizer added to the system as of now.
@@kingtidecorals Thanks for your quick response. I started my mangrove glas pot one month ago. The seller told me once I have added salt to the pot i only should add distilled water not to accumulate more and more salt.
@@theobaldvonthorhausen3049 absolutely. If you’re just topping off your container then add fresh water. When I do complete water changes I add back water as the same specific gravity as the bowl once was before. Yes though, when topping off your container add fresh water
Totally can grow some in a plastic pot! If in substrate just make sure it stays very moist! Tap water can be used but with caution dependent on quality of tap!
My mangroves are becoming to big for my tank, Any ideas please? I'm thinking of starting a reef pond with leather corals and local caught tangs, angels and other tropical marine fish and I've got a huge bowl where I can transplant them when I have the finances to start the pond. I'm in Durban , South Africa. I have all the species of mangroves here as I'm rescuing pods that will be on the beach rubbish bin to be destroyed by the beach maintanance people.
Here is the official definition… RO/DI water is freshwater that has been filtered through a reverse osmosis system and measures with 0 total dissolved solids. Basically filtered water that has 0 particulates in it from the tap systems
man the more i watch videos on mangroves the more im just confused as to what ive managed to do with mine somehow i have managed to get mine to have hardly any leaf movement they look almost identical to the day i bought them nowhere near as grown as the ones you bought yet mine have maybe 5-10x the roots that those do

Love it! Mangroves are easily one of my favorite additions to tanks! They create a whole new element. Greetings! Thanks for watching!

Inspiring for sure. Thanks for the idea.
Absolutely! Glad you liked it! Have some plans for it in the near future no doubt!
Saw your post in fish tank features and had to investigate. 😁

Looking good! Hoping one day to snag one of those clippings from you :)

Looks really good!! That is interesting and will keep following to see how you transfer them to the tank.

Actually in the works in creating a larger mangrove grow out! Thanks for checking out the page, and stay tuned for updates!
The Mangroves are extremely cool! I just bought some of *The Freshwater Mangroves* online and keep it with small crabs.
Nice! Looking forward to hearing your update on the project!

Hey just watched the video and really got inspired. Can you tell me where you got the bowl? Or how much water it holds? Thanks
Thanks Tom and glad you liked the video! I snagged the bowl at a local craft store and I’d say it’s about a 2.5 gallon bowl
Can you take cuttings from the branches later on?
Can you use regular aquarium gravel or aquarium soil used for plants? Tried a mangrove and I accidently killed it cause I used regular potting soil.
Gorgeous!

Hey what type of sand is that? Can I use any sort of sand?
Can I grow in plastic pot ,instead of the aquarium, can I kept in my flat apartment on the grills. Is that sand bag.

Found a bunch of mangrove seedlings at beach from storm. Can you start them out in a cup of tap water?
I’m not certain about collection rules but you absolutely can grow them out in freshwater.

Hi can we see a video one day about that 5 gallon terrarium?:)
Funny you say that Chris, actually just changed things up in it I’ll make sure to drop an update in a video! I’ll be sure to mention you too!
Fantastic video!! What seller did you order mangroves from? I’ve tried two eBay orders and was dissatisfied with both.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it! Welcome to the channel!
Also let me see if she’s still selling! Haven’t been able to find any postings from her lately!

What’s your plan for algae on the bowl?
Good question! Most likely a tooth brush for the time being... also considered amano shrimp but would need a air stone

Where you buy this?
I set it up myself! The bowl though? A craft store!
Hmm is it possible to grow mangroves as a bonsai forest indefinitely?
edit: grammar
I don’t see why not! If kept up with it might just happen!
Okay so I can go somewhere like a park, pick up some fruit, and then plant it in an outdoor saltwater pond.
No not necessarily.. these are red mangrove seedlings that can acclimate to saltwater

Only thing they will not have room for roots fast will need way bigger tank for that many trees
The mangrove is as old as the ocean itself, it’s the last plant from the anean age.
Do your own research bro am I right?
