Congratulations Philip on finding a truly world class fossil. Your portfolio of finds is already incredible but this fossil is on another level. What a fantastic ambassador you are for the fossil hunting community and we applaud your selflessness for sharing your amazing find with the world. You’re a true gentleman and we the Smith family from North Yorkshire are massive fans of yours and you have our utmost respect. Can’t wait for your next incredible find😃

Such an amazing find, Phil! I can totally imagine the excitement and huge smile upon your face upon finding this - much as I understand Steve's nervousness about getting it off the beach as soon as possible! Also, thank you so much for donating this to science! It's an absolutely gorgeous piece and led to a jaw-dropping discovery, which might otherwise not have been made! 🙌

Philip's generosity and decision to not keep the snout was intergral to everything that has since happened. The 3 weeks of excavation led by Steve, the months of preparation and the year of film making, all started when Philip notified Steve of that discovery. So much work has been commited to this pliosaur and all began on that day in april 2022.

This interview sadly would have been long to fit in with such a show crammed full of amazing imagey and knowledge. We are pleased though that we can share this part of the story and tell Philips contribution to this wonderful tale
