  • 1993 what was originally intended to be the the last flight of the Vulcan.
It was sold to C Walton Ltd who used it for ground-based displays at their Bruntingthorpe Aerodrome in Leicestershire, until 1999. Through a combination of public donations and lottery funding, it was restored to airworthy condition by the Vulcan To The Sky Trust, who returned it to flight on 18 October 2007.
It flew till 2015. That would be XH558's last flying season, due to the third party companies responsible for maintaining it withdrawing their support.

I was there! Initially parked on the road, but he lovely Brunty organisation opened he airfield to let folks witness this historic occasion. We are so fortunate that this proved not to be the last flight with several years of Vulcan magic still to come. Lovely shot of Atlantiques DC3 GAMPZ. Flew in PY twice.a

I saw this Vulcan displayed under private ownership at several airshows during it's restored flying career and it certainly drew in the crowds young and old. What a shame that we don't have the Government funding or will to keep at least some of our jet heritage flying but there it is. This Vulcan is of the same vintage as the current US B 52 fleet which is about to be re-engined to extend the service life to perhaps 100 years. At least the Americans have chosen Rolls Royce engines to do this.

@@kenstevens5065 America does look after it`s heritage better than us.
Then again they have the space, money, & the climate for it.
Look at the the four Iowa class battleships, & other ships that are preserved there.
Our aircraft museums have exhibits for years then end up scrapping them!
