  • Scottie Scheffler just won his 7th career PGA Tour event at Bayhill this past weekend. His putter got hot again and matched up perfectly with his ball striking. In this video, I'll show you and discuss with you the 2 main things he is so good at when hitting the golf ball. Part 2 will be coming out later in the week, where Master Instructor Chris Tyler will show you a drill for stability and control in your release.

I equate a good round around my ball striking as opposed to the score. A hot putter when your ball striking is good and you can go low but bad ball striking and you are in for a long day of scrambling on the course.

For Scheff as I call him (we are tight that way!) If he putts slightly better than decent he wins!

Predictions: It was interesting listening to Scheffler's press conference. When he was asked about defending his win from last year, which no one has ever done before at TPC Sawgrass, he said the course requires many different styles at many different times, so it's hard to know how one is going to perform at any given time. I like Scheffler to win also, but this year's PGA events have seen many first time winners. That said, I really like Lowry's look these days. Let's not forget Aberg and Matsuyama. I'm sure I could go on, but I think it will come down to who keeps their wits about them when the inevitable mistakes happen.

Some good picks in there! Matsuyama gets the putter going and he can be very dangerous. Lowry has looked super solid as of late but shows little cracks here and there. All 3 of your horses are great picks! Thanks for the comment.

Somebody please explain this to me. I pull off these fundamentals on the living room floor, but apparently can't take them to the course. My game is going backwards. Having said that, I still believe in this instruction.

Suggestion: try to ease your changes to the course from the living room. Challenge the subconscious gradually by going to the range and have a good plan in place. Doing reps in the living room is helpful but you have to convince your subconscious you can hit the ball with these new movements before it allows you to actually do it at a high frequency. Here’s how I work on things…
      1. Identify the issue.
      2. Mirror work no ball.
      3. Move away from mirror and try to get to fluidity at slower speeds, back checking the positions.
      4. Increase speed slightly and back check again.
      5. Add foam ball and rifle it at my wife and son or whatever else that stands in the way:)
      6. Take heat from the wife because I said it wouldn’t hurt and in fact it stings a bit, at least that’s what I’m told. She can’t hit it back so I wouldn’t know. She did ask for the tennis ball cannon from the American gladiators for next Christmas. Not sure what that means.
      7. More foam ball sessions trying to find the speed threshold to match the quality of the movements.
      8. Small range session.
      9. More mirror work.
      10. Range session again.
      11. Start to play 9 holes and take full commitment to change. Get some video to check it.
      12. Increase the range time and golf course time.
      13. Game goes forward.
      Hope that helps!

Good ballstriker is someone like Ben Hogan. Most modern players can't control the ball like the greats.

Bring back the balata ball, make all golf courses 6800-7000 yards, grow the rough and shrink the fairways. Bring on the ball striking. Thats when the game was at its best. Most of the modern players are dealing with equipment and length that changes the shot making tremendously. I can assure you though, they are still very good ball strikers and can hit it in spots that a lot of people can’t even dream of hitting it into.

Lol. True but its no fun seeing driver then 9 iron then 2 putt. Thats why the Masters is great. Watch them tremble on approach shot on the 12th. Lol. Btw new subscriber enjoy your simple approach to teaching us hacks! Good luck!

does not look stacked over his lead ankle. lead shoulder behind his lead foot at impact. lots of none text book positions but clearly works for him. I’ll take Rory this WE.

Wider stance and ball position back a touch caused the center of the shoulder to be back a touch. Lead leg is a faction outside of neutral as well. All of which can cause it to look a little hung back in the upper half. Im very interested to see how Rory plays this weekend. I wanted to take him BUT I feel like he's little distracted looking right now.
