- A 4K morning drive from Irohazaka, Nikko City Tochigi to Marunuma Kogen, Katashina Village Gunma.
The drive starts at the bottom of Irohazaka (Alt. 800), goes up to Lake Chuzenji (Alt. 1,269m), passes through many hairpin corners, and then goes up again to Konsei Tunnel. (Alt. 1,843m) The drive finally ends at Marunuma Kogen Ski Resort which has the ropeway to Mt. Nikko Shirane observatory & trailhead.

Drive reminds me of US 50 in CA going through the Sierra Nevada on it's way to South Lake Tahoe.

Wow! This is fantastic. I have traveled this road as far as the temple at Lake Chuzenji by bus. This video shows the Irohazaka up road. The down road is even more spectacular. I had the front seat on the bus. The skill of the driver was phenomenal, negotiating the tight hairpins with only inches to spare from the barriers. Thank you so much. Please post a video of your trip back down to Nikko.
Loved the route. Sometimes when I go to beautiful places like that I almost cry just looking at the beauty of nature.
I hope one day you repeat this trip or a similar one around the area but in Winter 🤩

A very famous route from Nikko, visited this wonderful place during my trip to Japan in 2015, but unfortunately had no time to do also some roadtrips around, would love to do it next time I will be there. Thanks a lot for the video, greetings from a fellow roadtripper and creator from Germany!
