Just drill 3 3/16 holes in the front, take a few baffels out of the intake, retune and poof. The only thing you will miss out on is the sticker from west coast saws. 💪😁
I debated that or cutting slats with a grinder, I thought this was a cleaner look so I went this route. Definitely cheaper ways to get the same results but I liked the cleaner look.
I have had the same part from west coast saws to mod my muffler for a couple years now 😅. Eventually going to do it. My 261 has the old school tunable carb as i am old school. Thanks for the nice video. Probably going to put mine in the same place on the muffler as you did.
Yeah, I’m happy with it. Not a whole lot louder which I was hoping it wouldn’t be obnoxiously loud. This one is m-tronic so it is supposed to self adjust.
It fit better on the side since it was flat. The top was tapered and had a bend, I wasn’t sure how it would work trying to bend the deflector to fit so I went with a flatter surface.
Great video !! I’m still on the fence for this mod for my MS 261c. Would be nice if it could be done like I have done for my MS 362C and the MS 500i. Both of those were simple and worked out real well. Appreciate your efforts making this video 👍👏🇺🇸 Rick
It was definitely worth the time, it didn’t take long really and was relatively easy to do. Did you do a muffler mod or aftermarket muffler plate on your 362/500i?
@@Outdoorsappalichia Morning, Yes, I did the west coast bark boxes on both the MS 362c and the MS 500i. I bought the MS 261c back in September but haven’t done anything to it yet.
I’m not sure of the part number, I got it on eBay. I’ll look to see if I still have the box for the part number. If I were to do it again I would get a sugihara bar, definitely better quality after having one on my 462.
Ok, where did you find that at? I couldn’t find anything on the website and no instructions so I shot from the hip and drilled holes in wood til it fit lol
Check out my latest video, you can hear it actually cutting in wood. ua-cam.com/video/zrq1Ogi69js/v-deo.html Might be slightly more power but it revs out a lot faster and stays reved out a lot more in the cut which definitely cuts a bit faster. Power wise it’s honestly hard to tell a difference. You’ll be pleased with the sound, it’s deeper and slightly louder but not obnoxious which I was honestly afraid of it being too loud also but it wasn’t.
Those are just plugs to keep dirt out of the screws that keep the muffler screwed to the cylinder. That would have been nice if that were the case though for sure!

The important piece of info missing here, is that the carb needs to be re-tuned. It’s a pretty easy mod, not life changing but it seems like it’s able to stay in the meat of the power a little better.

Why did you decide to place the port on the side vs. on the top like you initially thought?

@@Outdoorsappalichia Oh, I see what you're saying. Thanks for the reply!
I've done drilling holes on my stihl ms381 exhaust and it runs very great also it prevent the top cover to melt😁
As long as it gets some extra flow out it doesn’t have to be fancy to make more power.

Are the caps over the bolts necessary? Can I just leave them out?
They aren’t necessary, they are just dirt/dust covers. I keep them on to keep debris out that might get packed in the bolt heads.
They're there, just so you don't lose. The bolts don't have to be in
Would removing the front two plugs not allow for free-er flowing exhaust without voiding the warranty?

That saw only has a 90 day warranty anyway being it’s a professional model

No, 271 is a single piece muffler. That’s the reason I did this muffler mod to my 261. Very easy and cheap with great results.

Why not get the WCS Barkbox ?
They don’t make a bark box for the 261, it’s a single piece muffler, bark box is for a 2 piece muffler.
Could you just use normal pop rivets?
If you had one big enough, I had a bend in it for it to fit better and I think the bolt would hold it a little tighter.
I used 316 stainless pop rivets with backing washers on mine. They were a bastard to install though. Thought I was gonna break my rivet gun.

this only increases the outflow, you didn't really do anything to the inside to create hp gains....?
No real go gain, maybe very marginal but it breaths much better. Breathing better results in much faster revs and holds rpm much easier when cutting.
Maybe I missed it but why are you doing this?
