you have also made it more difficult because of the point of view of the map is not what most people are used to see most people are used to see where south and no America on left hand sight on the map and we are around. There’s a tricky picture of the map you chosen here that’s right that’s so many people are confused about what country has a suitable name on it. It is difficult when it’s not there where we are used to see it so it’s difficult to. The most worrying thing about that video, regardless of what side of the political spectrum those people identify with, is that US americans always boast about their patriotism but these people CAN'T EVEN POINT THEIR OWN COUNTRY ON A MAP! 🤦‍♂

That's what was frightening, the questioned asked to name any country and yet none of them named even their own country.
I know these people were handed picked but seriously, that was bad and I can't imagine many people from other modern countries not being able to point out their own country on a map, and in the case of the US, considering how much they like to boost about their own country, it's quite shocking how many can't point it out on a map.

Maybe, but find at least one is not already normal in fact depending on their social level. These are the people we see in the video who don't seem to have any education or who are too young to have been interested in knowing at least one country name on this map.
On the other hand, showing people who know how to name more than 5 is not necessarily more rewarding and it nevertheless defines a little more the reality of things about the knowledge of the American population.
This video is not really intended to demonstrate the population's knowledge of geography but rather their behavior when faced with a question when in fact they probably have at least one good answer to give but either don't care or don't give no need to think for 2 seconds.
You won't make me believe that these people don't at least know the name of their own country and where it is located if we ask them the question without pointing the camera in their face. Annoyance and panic make us do stupid things and seriously hamper our brains. They see the thing as more insurmountable than it is and begin to complicate their lives unnecessarily in order to be able to respond if they do not prefer to give up directly. I don't buy the notion of Americans being so ignorant of geography because they're hyper-focused on cars, science, or whatever they specialize in.
Geography is taught in ELEMENTARY school, at least in Canada. Seriously, 8-year-olds learn geography. It's taught in elementary, junior high, senior high, and I minored in physical and cultural geography in college, where we had to learn how to do contour mapping and memorize ocean currents.
I remember the prof telling us, "I will never ask you to label the East Australian Current on a map for an exam." When we asked him why, he said, "Because it would be too easy! ... Unless you don't know where Australia is."
So I guess Americans aren't taught geography in school. Given that every map of North America I've seen on TV that's included in scenes of American schools has both Alaska and Hawaii scrunched up together off the coast of Baja California and nothing is labeled above the 49th parallel, I suppose it's not so surprising that many Americans have no clue about where other countries are and can't even find their own on a world map because those other maps have Alaska and Hawaii in the correct places.
Some customer service worker in one of the U.S. states got annoyed with me when I called to straighten out a magazine subscription problem. She asked for my zip code and I said I don't have one. I told her I was calling from Alberta.
She then demanded to know which state Alberta is in. I told her, "It's not a city in a state. It's a province in Canada. I'm Canadian."
Whereupon she said she couldn't help me, because they didn't do "overseas" orders. I told her that Canada is NOT overseas, and in fact, if she went outside and walked far enough north, she'd get to my city and wouldn't have to cross the ocean even once (rivers and lakes, yeah, but no oceans). Plus, I already had an account so obviously they did do orders from Canada. She had a very hard time wrapping her head around that.

Hilarious! Is there ‘education’ (aka schools) in USA? Lol
I was 6 when I came to Australia from Denmark not speaking or understanding a single word of English. By age 8, I spoke English, by age 10, I spoke with an Australian accent. This was on purpose, I wanted to ‘fit in’. In that time, I also learned geography and history. By the age of 11 most Australian kids back then (early 1970’s), could name and point out on a world map, every country in the world and we knew the capital cities of at least 80% of the world. It was all a part of learning how we fit in with the rest of the world, and very basic education on Australia….like learning to read and write!
Ps….I knew where Australian was (the US sized island the first guy pointed at) before coming to Australia….so I would have been 5 years old…my actual education had not yet begun.

The large island, the one you can't identify, is Australia. The teeny, tiny island directly south of it is Tasmania. The group of islands to the south east are New Zealand. Directly north are the islands of Papua New Guinea. These, along with some smaller countries, form the continent of Australia.
The islands to the north west are Indonesia, in Asia.

    • @miniveedub
      @miniveedub Місяць тому

Australia, including Tasmania is the continent. Australia is a country on the continent of Australia. Australasia is a region that also includes New Zealand and other small neighbouring islands. Oceania is a region that includes Australiasia, New Guinea, and the southern Polynesian islands.
It’s best to look things up before you comment on someone else’s errors. The regions of Australasia and Oceania were declared for the purpose of dividing the world into regions. That is why although Asia the continent stretches from China to Türkiye there is a region called South East Asia that includes Indonesia and the Phillipines and surrounding islands well as countries in the south eastern part of the Asian continent.
