Your projects look amazing! Great job on finding all that handspun for such a low price. What a deal!
Thank you! And right?! It was such a lucky find.
G’day Adriana from here in South Australia 🇦🇺 I came across your podcast this morning and really enjoyed your content, so informative and helpful talking about your knitting and what problem solving/processes you used. I particularly liked you blending mohair yarn that had never entered my mind, I’m excited to dive in and do some swatches. I was knitting on a pair shortie socks while watching you and I use magic loop. To stop the line/seam look I will move my stitches (approx 4) around the needle occasionally maybe every 4 rounds to alleviate this and when needing to have same number stitches on each needle eg start heel flap & gusset then I ensure I’m at start round. I use a stitch marker although it’s easy to see BOR wool hanging down when originally casted on. When I knit length of sock I do same till start toe section. Hope that makes sense, you may already do this. I think Patty Lyons mentioned this in one of her many tutorial videos on Instagram but am sure you can find others on UA-cam. Looking forward to going back and watch your previous episodes and future ones. 🍀
Ooh thanks for the tip! I've never noticed the seam look in my ribbed socks or socks with another knit/purl stitch pattern but I found it really noticeable in this stockinette set. I will keep this in mind for the next stockinette set I do - but it'll be a battle between my desire to not have the seam and my laziness of not wanting to move stitches around!
I could not even see the uneven increases on the sweater for your son, I thought it looked perfect! but what a shame that the collar was too small :( maybe you can cut it off and try to make a new collar. I have done a folded collar once and I just knit it in ribbing and then did a cast off very loosely, then I used the same yarn to sew the edge into where the collar started (I sew on the inside of the jumper). It turned out great! But its very easy that the collar gets too tight an non-stretchy that way for me, so I just made sure there was enough of loose yarn, maybe not the best method of sewing it on but at least its hidden 😆
And I also looove that combination of the 3 strands of silk mohair 😭😍 that jumper goes to my wish list not, with that yarn combo! Really inspired me to look for different colors to match and make something else! So beautiful!
I’m generally a tight knitter so I guess that transferred to sewing down the collar too 🙈 okay yeah that what I was thinking - do a stretchy bind off and then sew down very loosely instead of trying to do both at the same time.
I am so happy with how the 3 strands look together! It opened a whole new world of colours when I realized I could put multiple colours together. And it really is a beautiful and elegant pattern. I don’t know if it’s all of the ribbing or the thin mohair but something is making my shoulder hurt when I work on that pattern so I think I have to take a small break. Even though I don’t want to!
I don't have a lot of tips/suggestions as this is my second year of knitting and I mainly focus on accessories like socks and hats, but I enjoyed watching your podcast :) I'm knitting my first garment now- The Weekender by Andrea Mowry.
My favorite short row heel is the shadow wrap short row heel. Denise from EarthtonesGirl has a great video tutorial. My first short row heel was the German short row heel and I didn't like how holey it was and it wasn't very symmetrical. I find heel flap and gussets to be much too fiddly for my taste.
The Nele sweater looks so nice! Awesome color combo!
Ooh I’ll have to try the shadow wrap short row heel next time - thanks for the suggestion!
The Weekender is a beautiful sweater 😍 How are you finding the transition from knitting accessories to a garment?
@@adriannamakes it’s not as difficult as I thought it would be! It’s challenging in a fun way
Yay! I found the same to be true for me ☺️ Have fun!
OMGoodness.im so sorry to hear that you’re not quite satisfied with the sweater you made. It is amazing. I can barely see the “imperfection” of your decreases. It doesn’t lower the caliber of your skill or the final product. I feel that you’re being way too harsh on yourself. It’s a gorgeous sweater you’ve. Add for your son. As for the collar, can you just put in a lifeline around the neck and steek the collar off? Then red it the collar as you like? I’m sorry if I’m not understanding the recovery process well. It must have been upsetting when his head didn’t go through.
You’re too kind! It might just be a case of needing some time away from it working on another project and then when I come back to it I won’t notice the things that bothered me before as much. I’ve never tried putting a lifeline in but I think that could work for this! Thanks!
