Bought 21mm Zeiss distagon.., after 3 years of extremely careful and rare use the microchip failed. To fix the problem I need to send it to Germany for inspection (from Australia), then pay A$250- 750 for the part and labour ( two screws removed, a chip installed, probably 15 minutes).
I expect from such a company a sincere apology , free repair and postage..., a bottle of champagne... OK.., OK..., without a bottle...
    Moral: think twice...

I wish Zeiss had retained the beautiful classical retro look for their lenses (like the 50mm 1.4 Planars).
I thought that the all metal construction and retro look was one of their key strengths apart from the optics.
This modern styling looks more like a space shuttle than a true lens!
The optical performance may be great, but why spoil that look ?
Most companies do not understand what the customer sees as strengths of their products, which is not always just the obvious things like optical quality etc ...

+Sudheer Prasad But you do want the highest possible IQ in the first place, right? That's my main focus when buying a lens. Thereafter I look at durability/IS,VR,VC,OS and design comes in at third.
But this is my thoughts and my choices, you may do as you please =)

sorry would u please to help me give some info, which one is the best and sharpest between nikon 58 f1.4 nano made in china or milvus 50 f1.4 made in japan for body dx d7000 and for wedding or prewedding photojobs, thank u very much

Milvus are manual, therefore best for landscapes. I would not use manual lenses for wedding (speed is important). In studio portraits, things are slower, and Milvus would be okay.

I was thinking about the Sigma Art, but never liked such brand with all the great reviews. I'd rather wait for the new Zeiss. I had some Hasselblads before and trust Zeiss

Sigma art is stunning but if you're using it for film you have to have the zeiss- the sigma focus throw is horrible (I own a 24mm 1.4 sigma and am waiting to afford the 25 1.4 Milvus simply for the focus throw (and to match my set)

I have read somewhere in the very first review of the Milvus 35mm f2 that this lens actually works like crap. Now I want to cry a lot.

There's others who say it's their all time favorite lens. True story. Some people see a little CA and say it must be crap, others see epic sharpness, 3D rendering, great bokeh, flawless color and resistance to flare with buttery smooth focus and think that's more important. ;)

If you're not sure, go for the Milvus 35mm f1.4 (I got this lens....fantastic).

My god, the Milvus have nasty rubber focus rings! Rubber, not metal....heresy, abysmal, horrific, sacrilege
NOT AT ALL interested in the Milvus

....Because that's what he does. Angry whinges get him more hits. Personally I love the look of the Milvus range, as well as the extra focus throw & declick features.

He likes the old style. On other hand he doesn't get it....these new lenses are new and improved, and sharp at f1.4, better edge performance. He loves his 35mm distagon, but it is not as sharp as milvus 35mm f1.4. All Milvus lenses have improved peformance over their older series....except 135mm/100. The Milvus 15mm though is same optics as older version, only change in body and coating (fantastic lens for landscape and astro).

No screwdriver when you purchased the Hasselblad 500 series/lenses.
They now provide a dinky screwdriver to you can scratch the lens.
Just get your old manual lenses, Canon FD, Contax, Hasselblad, Leica, Mamiya, Pentax, Nikon AI, Olympus, Rolleiflex lenses mod by ATG.
Do you really want to buy an overpriced full manual lenses when you have already or can buy them used for much less?
Germany Carl Zeiss is in trouble.
Japan Carl Zeiss is what many beginners & people that can't focus well want.
