I watched all 3 of these videos and I am ashamed to admit a fair amount of envy. I would really like to have the skills, knowledge, talent and tools you do. These kinds of projects must give you SO much satisfaction. Every time you look at or use this vise I'm sure your heart swells with pride. Thank you for this. Very inspiring indeed.
It's no accident so many people had to comment...Amazing ,incredible ,excellent...Couldn't stop watching this three -part video...This is the first time I ever comment on anything on you tube...I was obliged to tell you what an outstanding job you've done...Just -WOW!!!
Hey, James. Thanks for putting the build on video. I had wondered if it were even possible to make a vise out of wood, due to the tremendous forces exerted on the frame. I'm really jealous of your tool setup. I appreciate your attention to precision and detail. I think it is so cool that your daughter wants to hang with you and even photobomb you repeatedly. I love her mischievous smile. My 13-year-old son likes to work with me some in my shop, helping me to cut down sheet goods, but he doesn't have a real love of the craft yet. Maybe he will some day!
James, Awesome project as always. You and your family must really enjoy your time in the shop. I bet your home is full of beautiful treasures that you have made. Keep up the great work that you do. Magnificent build !
You are masterful at making extremely detailed videos that are easy to follow and don't leave out any steps! This vise is fantastic! One day I will try and recreate this although I will probably start with an Oak version cause I know I'll screw it up somehow. LOL. Thank you for taking the extra time to make such great videos! I'm sure your plans are equally as detailed.
Some of the best ww'ing video I've seen on YT. Why? Because of the explanations and editing. Plus you have skills, bro, Great job. The wood is incredible. It would break the bank for me glad you could do it.
There are lots of ways to get to Rome in woodworking. You can exchange some of the woods for other more common hardwoods and still get similar results in strength and functionality. Purple heart looks always nice but is pricey. But you can use certain maple types, teak or some of the Brazilian hardwoods that are less expensive. The other thing is to try to estimate extra wood in clients work (where possible) and save the left overs for projects like these.
Ok, I've watched this twice and amazed by how beautiful a build this is. Just simply gorgeous. I'll be ordering the plans tomorrow as I agree with you, if you break it down to the 7 pieces, it's pretty simple to make. Thanks for the inspiration. I live in NJ, my daughter is in Denver now looking for an apartment. Bob
James, I've been watching this 3 part series over the last 2 nights. Very thorough design and (as always) excellent work. Thank you for all of the helpful tips as well!
After looking up some information on YT i came across one of your videos, and i must say sitting for 3 hours watching your videos i forgot what i was looking for LOL ! I really enjoyed your videos and this 3 part video of the exotic wood vise just had me glued to my monitor (no pun intended). you have earned my sub brother keep doin what you do and God Bless, all the way from the hills of Kentucky !
James, I have this on my wish list for a summer project, but there's always other stuff that I need to do as well. I must say this is absolutely sunning and should last way longer than I will. The only mod I might make is to build a bigger base, it looks like the torque that produces would benefit from a larger surface to fasten to the bench, but maybe I'm overthinking it. Thanks again for all you do.
What a beautiful beast, I'm sure you will be crushing some soft wood at one point or another. Love your videos!! Thanks for taking us along on this build series.
James my American friend, I think you have to change the name of these videos. Everything you and your family make is not fine wood working at all, they’re works of art my friend!!! Absolutely outstanding work once again. I’m a huge fan of all of your videos. Love them all. Keep up the good work King Family ! Love from Australia 🇦🇺
That vise is beautiful. I am blown away by how much gravity you got into that with it being wood. I'm guessing that almost all the exotic woods you used were extremely dense?? I'm a huge vise nerd so I thoroughly enjoyed this. Although, I'd never use it as a metal vise, but this isn't a machining channel. It's a woodworking channel and a damn good one, so this vise makes absolute perfect sense in your shop. I do a lot of woodworking and metal fab so I can even see a similar vise being a good idea for myself. Especially a purpose built vise as gorgeous as that.
Excellent work in every aspect: woodworking skills, finishing skills, and importantly for YT, your video editing skills. You are a natural teacher. The icing on the cake is sharing your passion with your family. You are truly blessed. Now, go get a decent cnc (look at Legacy) and make some videos using that. For your production work, will cut the time by 75%. Plus we all need more folks like yourself willing and able to share your skills with those of us more challenged. Thank you!
Never thought something as mundane as a vice could be perceived as gorgeous, but it is in all it's heft (my cast iron one weighs a mere 14 Kgs or 33 lbs to you compared to your 54.8 lbs, wow). This definitely qualifies as a heirloom piece. Well done as always; I really enjoyed watching the entirety. One is most pleased my good man. Kind regards.
Thank you once again for your courteous response. Cannot wait to see what other surprise you have in store for us. Noticed your Thor hammer was used in this project. Regards to all.
WOW!!! This is such an amazing work! The woods you use and all the details it’s really awesome, not to mention that’s a family project! Now i feel like i need to build one of those! Thanks for share this!
Hi Terry! Haha. Thanks. Well, horses wouldn't do it for me, since I dislike hide glue. I prefer the Polyvinyl Acetate & Polyvinyl Alcohol glues. But I also like the Polyurethanes a bit, and I'm real fond of all epoxides! Haha, actually, I'm an organic chemist. So I not only get to play with these adhesives, but I can also synthesize them in the lab.
Incredible build! You have very unique and BEAUTIFUL projects. Thank you for sharing your knowledge on the wood species, I learn so much from you with every video. Thank you!
watched all 3 videos , brilliant build I'm from the UK so these woods are not available, but what a beautiful item, thanks for posting from Garry in the UK
That is the coolest thing I've seen to date! An item like this vise will end up being a priceless heirloom. I know a piece like that would be fought over in our family lol. Knock down drag out haha.
I just finished watching all 3 videos on this. All I want to say is WOW. I'm very Impressed with this build as it's a Thing of Beauty. Thank you for sharing.... I had to Subscribe... :) Take care and Have a Great Day....
Absolutely amazing James, watched all three! Great explanation and videography too! Well done sir. Nice to see the family involved too. Blessings upon you all.
Very envious of your talent. I have watched Your videos on the vise, miter saw bench cabinet combo, and a few others. I will be purchasing a few of your plans this week. Keep up the awesome job and great videos.
James, just got done watching the vise project and it was so cool to watch!!! I really like the wood choices as well! Thumbs-up buddy, really nice job! Oh yeah, ask your daughters if they`re up for hire! LOL!!!
My God I just feel like giving you a hug and say very well don son , what do I want to say ? Awesome , marvelous , outstanding All of the above for sure This is on video I really enjoyed every minute of it Thanks for sharing and posting
What an amazing vice and gorgeous to boot, very well done. Keep doing what your doing, I have learned many tips & tricks and maybe some day, I can achieve close to the same quality as you produce.
James, this was a great build and wonderful videos of how to do it, Your style of editing make a very complex project very doable for all woodworkers thank you and your great family for this now I know that YES I CAN BUILD IT TOO, I am in need of a new bench and vice as I rebuild my lost shop (fire) I wanted to build one but I didn't think I was up to the task and now I know I can build one it won't be a beautiful as yours is as I will be using mostly plain local hardwoods but I will splurge where I can like maybe Walnut for the centers of my jaws and screw backer plate well you get the idea thanks again for such good videos and thanks for putting in all the extra work to make them so good too
That was amazing! The project was great and turned out beautifully but equally as important was your cinematographic, editing and the tasteful appearance of your children! Truly a fantastic video, I have subscribed, please keep up the great work. Sal
Hi there,Ive just watched all three vidios of you and your daughters making the vice, and it really is one very big VICE,and made with all exotic wood it must have cost a small fortune, however its a brilliantly made vice, and watching you make it gave me lot's of pleasure, thank you very much, and nd it definatley gets my vote
I Just found your channel (Thank God!) Lol I Absolutely Love your Channel Already! You really are inspiring me to get out in my little Shop and Make Something! I Love how your Daughter is interested in your Builds! Its an INCREDIBLE way to bond with your Kids. Everytime im in my Garage/Workshop im guaranteed one of my 4 young children will be there watching me lol and i love it and get them to build little projects of their own. I have 3 girls and one Boy and they All Love Making things! And im glad because it gives me extra time with them. Anyways Take Care Bro! And I Love that Vise its Beautiful! In fact so Beautiful i wouldnt want to use it very much because id be afraid to scratch it! Haha but Seriously That Vise really is a Piece of Fine Art!!! You got Amazing Woodworking Skills! How big does it open up? Have a Great Day Brother!
John, I'm just starting to put my shop together in my shed. I have been watching your videos with great interest. I feel like I have been taking a semester in word-working from a real professional educator. I have decided to subscribe to your channel and gave you a big "thumb's up"!! Keep the video's coming. I have a lot of catching up to do!!
That is cool man!!!!! Awesome project!!! Even more awesome how you involve your kids in your projects and mentor them along the way!! Good work James, keep it up!!!
You are most welcome!! Most people don’t want to spend the time to teach their kids the skills they have, I myself was more into mechanics and built a 1981 Camaro with my son, and my daughter when smaller hands were required!! Haha That’s time that can never be replaced!! I’ve just recently have gotten into woodworking and have almost completed my version of a Paulk workbench to do my future work on. Your videos are inspirational and VERY INFORMATIVE and EXTREMELY DETAILED which is what someone like myself needs as I am new to the art of wood. Keep it up my man!!!
You are truly an artisan, I have most of these woods sitting around getting dusting I have purple heart, blood wood, weinge', lace wood and curly maple; that I think I could do this project...you are way more talented and I dont have the dovetailing jig but still doable. :-D
I just sat here and watched all three videos. I think it was an amazing build I am more of an amateur woodworker and a 50 year metal worker. I've built houses and some furniture but nothing to come to the quality of what your vice is. I would like to build one I have a piece of Paducah that I think is beautiful. And I liked was it marblewood the handle in the head. I do have two good wood supply places close to me that sell exotics. I have started working on a building that I can put a wood shop in I do my metal work outside and I can do that but I can't do woodworking outside like that. I would like to look at the plans for this one I liked your metal pins I'm more a fan of brass and I probably would have put brass pins in it and I probably would have gone ahead and used brass pins back in the gussets and just because LOL I would have added smaller brass pins into the handle caps. But I think it was an excellent job and I do appreciate the time and effort that you put in to making the videos.
@@eagle3351, the brass pins would look amazing!! I’m half thinking I might rebuild it with a wooden screw. I now own a tool to cut a 2-1/2” diameter wooden screw out of an exotic.
Such an Amazingly Beautiful piece! I just found your channel and watched all 3 vids of this build i subbed on the 2nd vid cant wait to see more!! You explain everything so well and simply so anyone would feel as though they could do this. I Love it! And the fact that you've gotten your daughters involved And they enjoy it, is just Amazing!!
Watched all 3-parts of build...Great job...first the exotic wood...I couldn't afford...machinery I don't have...labor in build...2-weeks??? I broke...Great Great job...
Yoggi, is definitely smarter than the average bear!!!LOL Enjoy your vids so much!!! May God continue to bless You and Your family !!! Thank you James!!!

King's Fine Woodworking awesome job !
*Holy cow!* This vise is for generations to come. *One hell* of a project.

I'm sure he will. Woodworking seems to grow on people. Thank you for the nice comments.
Awesome, awesome project James. Love the way you explain all the details while doing the build. Thank you.
This is not for a workshop. It's a part of a museum. Much to nice, to work with it. Greetings from Germany.
Hi Alfred! Thank you! Greetings!! :-)
I was completely surprised you didn't turn your own screw and thread it out of wood! Beautiful vice!
James, Awesome project as always. You and your family must really enjoy your time in the shop. I bet your home is full of beautiful treasures that you have made. Keep up the great work that you do. Magnificent build !
Thank you very much! And I even have the very first dining table I ever made 28 years ago. It is a trestle table out of oak and walnut.
Please Post a picture of your first build....
You are masterful at making extremely detailed videos that are easy to follow and don't leave out any steps! This vise is fantastic! Wow, that marble wood is beautiful, especially after it’s been waxed and lacquered!
It sure is.
James, I've been watching this 3 part series over the last 2 nights. Very thorough design and (as always) excellent work. Thank you for all of the helpful tips as well!
Hi Alan. Thank you very much!
" You can never have too much glue."
Brother, you are singing to my heart.
Loved your use of all the exotic woods. It is a great looking vise James
Hi Chuck! Thank you very much!
Wow! Double WOW!! You never cease to amaze me. Thank for the video, I"ll never build one. I just you and your do the builds.

I think we all say Thank you for the very informative videos.
Thank you very much also for the hammer
Thank you very much for watching Andrew. And you are very welcome for the hammer.
I used it once more today to adjust a computer case panel which got dented in transit

Very impressive craftsmanship. I love this all exotic wood’s Wood Vise. Much continued success. Y’all stay safe.
Way too gorgeous to use as a tool! It's beastly & beautiful. Nice project.

The finished product is very nice. It should certainly hold up to some use.
Thank you very much! I hope it will last a lifetime.
You sure made a beautiful vice. I love it.
Thank you very much!
WOW!!! This is such an amazing work! The woods you use and all the details it’s really awesome, not to mention that’s a family project! Now i feel like i need to build one of those! Thanks for share this!
Thank you!
James - I'm beginning to think you once owned horses and now have a stock pile of glue. Loved the project. That is a real heirloom for your daughter.
Hi Terry! Haha. Thanks. Well, horses wouldn't do it for me, since I dislike hide glue. I prefer the Polyvinyl Acetate & Polyvinyl Alcohol glues. But I also like the Polyurethanes a bit, and I'm real fond of all epoxides!

Good work James, keep it up!!!

@@eagle3351, the brass pins would look amazing!!
