Hey Todd , thank you so much for the shout out and the kind words . It is really much appreciated . It was really nice of the farmer to offer you more wood and very nice of you to clean that line up for him too . That looked like Elmer’s glue coming from that hedge !! 👍🏻🇺🇸🪵👊🏻
No problem Del. I enjoy your channel and you deserve it brother. Not sure if I’m much help but I’m trying. Yeah I have a pretty good deal with this farmer! He gets free labor and I get free wood and storage space. Plus he would help me out with equipment if I ever needed it. It’s a win win! Yeah looks exactly like Elmer’s glue and just about as sticky! Thanks for watching 👊🏻🇺🇸
Hello Jacob! Yeah I have heard it referred to as Hedge Apple here too. Never heard of it called Bodock🤷♂️ Maybe its regional like firewood measurements😂 Take care and thanks for watching 👊🏻
I personally have never seen Hedge bleed like that. So cool that your farmer friend calls and stays in touch like that. Hope you had a great Easter Todd!!
It’s worse this time of year because the sap is rising right now. Yeah I have a pretty good deal with this farmer. He always calls and offers but says no hard feelings if I don’t want stuff. He gets free labor and I get free wood/storage and the run of his land. It’s a win win. Hope you had a great Easter too Obie👊🏻
Yes and when you say bleeding I know what you mean. I have marks all over my arms and legs😂 That was the inspiration for the short I put out! I have multiple scars from this crap🤣 Take care Rod👊🏻
Madrona is the same way here in Western Washington. Even green, it's hard stuff and high BTU. It appears that when your sidekick runs off to college, you won't be board. 😂 Happy Easter to you and your family 😉👍
I’m sure I won’t be board. Firewood definitely won’t be as fun without Evan here to spend the time with! Madrona sure does sound similar. Have a great week ahead Daniel👊🏻
Most farmers will allow you to cut hedge off their fields. I cut a lot of it for firewood. But I prefer to cut it in the winter the sap is down and the extra layers help combat the thorns. Sounds like you’re in a great arrangement with your neighbor farmer where you’re doing him a favor and getting some firewood and he’s allowing you to store your wood in return.
You are absolutely right on the Hedge and the arrangement with the farmer. Usually we would cut in the fall but the farmer just got this new attachment for his skid loader. Sap is definitely running! Thanks for watching Jeff👊🏻
That will make some good heating wood. I understand your pain with the 4 wheeler tire, I replaced the steer tires on the John Deere and I still have you that goes low🤔
Yes it is! I like that the farmer always calls me when he has something available on his land. He owns and leases a lot of land that is all local to me so I’m sure grateful for the calls. After I ended the video the tree service guy did show up with a load of Oak! I think it’s gonna work out this time. Thanks for watching Jimbo👊🏻
I am near semi retiring and have helped a farmer/ friend harvest for 2 solid months for the last 10 years. I am in the same boat for first dibs also. Problem is he's an hour away to his farms and leases from my home base to haul the wood home. Want to go with bundles only. We'll see.👍🤔
Awesome shoutouts Todd! Like you said, this community is awesome!! That is crazy how that Osage Orange sapwood is bleeding that way. I wish we had some of that around us, but I’ve never personally seen any? Nice amount of wood you got out of those few trees
I would say not to wish for it! It is a very frustrating tree to have in your woods😂 The branches are full of thorns and you need a dozer to penetrate it. Very high in BTU but needs to be burned in moderation! It’s considered a nuisance tree around here. Thanks for watching Brandon👊🏻
Super job Todd 👍. Looks like fun to me . That was more than I thought you cut on the trailer , never dealt with that stuff but I believe you on the heat output , I cut an oak one time that a guy pulled out of a pond .., when I burned that thing it got crazy hot in the stove , and I did not sell that one I savored it on really cold evenings and days. Thanks for the vid. And the channels you mentioned are great also , always trying to check in to the firewood community., hard to keep up ☑️. 🍺🍺⬅️Hamm’s. 🤣🤣. Later brother
Yeah this Hedge is plentiful. I wound up cutting three more trees back after the camera stopped rolling. I couldn’t stop😂 The farmer even said you did too much! He really appreciated it. Thanks for watching and commenting brother👊🏻🍻
Yeah I knew it was great for long bows but not too educated on its history. I’ll have to look it up. I always heard they planted it as fence rows for property line barriers. You would have to own a tank to penetrate it🤣 Thanks for watching Greg👊🏻
@@toddsoutsideagain Todd.... Harrodsburg, Ky. Old ft Harrod as we know it ... largest oldest Osage orange tree in the US they say... it greets you when you pull in to park.... just a cool bit of history in the Daniel Boone days
Nice shout-outs Todd, salt of the earth channels. I never seen a tree run sap like that before. I've seen them fill up with water after damage from stress but never like that.
Osage sure if a different kinda animal. Like Midwest commented I have never cut it without bleeding myself 😂Branches are full of thorns! Its sap is like glue! It’s almost best to cut and let it set before handling it. Thanks for watching Kenny👊🏻
You are correct! Hardest wood I know of! I have heard stories of people warping their wood burners when burning too much hedge. Moderation is key. Thanks for watching David👊🏻
Yes I do. He has already pushed the brush and thanked me and said I did too much!! I realize he’s getting the better end of the stick, but what goes around comes around. I didn’t really need the hedge but doing this favor is what I believe my payback for all he lets me do on his land. Thanks for watching and have a great Easter Tom👊🏻

To me it sounds like the best firewood you could get being high in btu . How does it compare to oak or cherry for btu . Thanks again Todd .
Congratulations on your channel! Well deserved! This Osage is very hard to work with. Thorns on the branches and almost impossible to snap even the smallest limbs. Oak is 24 BTU Cherry is 20 and this Osage is 32!! It will absolutely warp or melt your wood burner if you’re not careful. Appreciate ya watching Phil👊🏻
Happy Easter to you and your family, Todd. That is great having a neighbor like that. You'll have work for quite some time. I've never cut, milled or burned orange osage. I always knew it was hard and high BTUs but after looking it up the numbers are at the top of the charts. Great score.
Good neighbors is awesome. Very grateful to have some on all sides. Yes in our area it is 32 BTU! That is highest species. Happy Easter to you and yours Jerry👊🏻

That sap looks like elmer’s glue! I loaded up my outdoor boiler with osage a few years ago and it warped the front door shield. It’s like 1/2 steel or something crazy. A little bit of osage goes a LONG way!
Looks like glue and works like glue! My gloves were stuck together after I took them off🤣Yes a little goes a long way for sure. We just cut about a1/3 cord for our own personal use. I don’t sell it because of people don’t know what it is they could burn up their furnace or their house! Thanks for watching Mike. Happy Easter👊🏻
Well we have been very fortunate😂 I believe that comes from always going above and beyond when dealing with others. Just like this job for example. The farmer said you really did me a solid. He said you did too much! Respect goes a long way! Thanks for watching Jdubb👊🏻
