It was a different world when I started to play guitar in the 1970s. I was playing folk songs out of the Alfred Guitar book. Now these 15 year olds are playing Holdsworth and Zappa.

When I took my Son to see and hear Allan first row I noticed he used black jazz 3s
and it appeared as if he was picking or sweeping upwards.
While he solo'd his eyes rolled upwards in his head like GREAT WHITE SHARK swallowing the whole room ..
so it was feel !
but something beyond anything id ever heard .
I met Holdsworth twice the first time I said I love your music but I can not figure it out
and i was visibly perplexed and defeated in the 80s then and Allan put his hand on my shoulder and said GOOD I laughed so hard ..
The 2nd and last time I met him He handed me his Delap
and I knew better then to play any notes I felt the action and sighted the instrument
from the bridge to nut and proclaimed after many beers that the fret board was FLAT.
WELL ITS FLAT I SAID OUT LOUD going back to my drawing board of trying to comprehend
what we just heard this time my Son was with me...
Rest Allan in the final frontier and hug Coltrane and the rest for me.
