It's been a while since I've used a sweet roll cake, but maybe I should take a look at what colors I have and see if any would work for a Boggy Creek blanket. I'm making one too and, like you, unsure if I like the stitch for the purpose. I love the pattern and the stitch, but it does make it a bit thicker, so I'm thinking of putting it into my charity bin and looking at what yarns I have for a DK weight and I'm going to look around for a stitch that is a little less dense.
