dont tell me anything i want to know just a hourlong sales pitch of a product that will in some instances destroy your PC if used as recommended as in replace the old rules with the new,
Wooooow, y'all clap y'all's selves on the back for an hour and say NOTHING useful about the product. Wtf are y'all wasting y'all's money on? Can't wait for the new third party content. WotC lost any sense of the product to be reliable and relevant to the game.
W0ke sheeiiit for weaks whitey 😂😂😂
One thing I would wish for... Get free access to DnD Beyond Books you purchased as a real book.
Hasbruh not making us buy the book twice? Never happen
YES!!! I want to be able to use D&D beyond for the books I already own!!!
If you buy the physical books from dnd beyond you get both
That's what PDF and bundles with these are for, yet only third party content provides that level of convenience... It sure would be good to see WotC take the lead there.

It was SO cool to hear from the art & design team! I think it's easy to underestimate how much art can affect the ~feeling~ of learning about the game and designing characters, but seeing that backgrounds actually have visual environments paired with them gave me such instant serotonin and creative energy 😍
I remember Emi Tanji from a Lost Mines of Phandelver AP back in 2014, great to see that she's now the art director 10 years later!
I agree, the impact of art on setting the atmosphere and fostering imagination is heavily underrated. It's also what makes the books really appealing to buy. I'm glad they focused on that.
Hear hear, looking at that art is a blessing to the creative mind. So much inspiration to be had.

If you order it from WOTC through Beyond, it's an additional $10 for the digital. $60 plus tax per book.
I hope least the basic rules get updated
Hasbro not making us buy the same book twice? It's never going to happen
Agreed, I like to order from my FLGS and get the alt covers to help support. Would be nice to have the DndBeyond part included, even if it had the same $10 bump the preorders did.
@@thenyyrd9025lol no thanks
Here's a fun game to play with your friends; take a shot for every time Chris Perkins says "bastions" in this video.
Bring back à la cart to the D&D beyond marketplace.
It was really nice seeing all the usable content itemized not just the amount of each thing (new classes, species items, and spells) available in that book separate from the compendium. It really helped deciding if I wanted to buy the book or not as a player. Where a DM would be interested in the monsters available in that book. Especially if the book is just a campaign setting that they wouldn’t necessarily want to run/play.
We're gonna have to keep dreaming, they're gonna keep forcing us to buy the whole book
As a new player, I was really intimidated to pick up DnD due to how complicated it always seemed. Listening to this, it seems like they really focused on building what was already in existence for the veterans, but also bringing in elements to make it beginner friendly so both sides can play together. So thank you for including us all! My group is really excited to start!
dont be afraid to look at other ttrpgs aswell. not enough new players do in my opinion. Runehammer games. shadowdark, powered by the apocalypse games, free leagues Mork borg and year zero engines. many good things out there you can also look at. whatever you do, hope you have fun with it
DOn't hesitate to ask folks online either, there's a veritable ton of knowledge out there
Look, just get the book bindings right the first time!
Thanks for all the work thats gone into the books and the videos promoting them. Thank for not having Ads on your UA-cam channel.
I REALLY wish they would add a chapter into the DMG or a separate book down the road that is specifically for props to use during gameplay. I feel there is a massive enabler there they are missing out on to help DM's use props, both made with simple household or dollar store items or more elaborate 3D printable items, which not only feeds in-person experiences, but also could be a good market for WotC such as STL files you could purchase on DnD Beyond. When you talk about enhancing an experience, simple things like parchment paper or a D&D elven or dwarven fonts, the infamous reusable glass/plastic tubes with D4's in them for potions or printable trap/puzzle boxes that go with a specific adventure, really makes the game immersive and fun. In a world with everything digital, keeping a connection to tangible items brings things back to the table.
I’ve made UA-cam content about making physical game accessories, and the content is like a dead fish in water. I’m not sure it’s something with mass market appeal.
Nah let's keep it in the hands of third party small businesses, Hasbruh doesn't need any more money

@@NovusIgnisExactly this. I'll stick to 3rd party for any future updates to the game. I never viewed WotC as the arbitrators of the rules anyways. Isn't even their own work. Most of the content in this book are third party content that they're pirating for themselves.
0:38 - Don't let this distract you from the fact that in 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team.

Got my basic set of D&D for Christmas 1980. This was the set with the famous "Keep on the Borderlands" adventure! It's hard to imagine that so much time has gone by and that so many versions have been printed. Looking forward to the new rules. Hoping my wish list gets some answers... better range of weapons... like an actual 1-handed sword (the old broadsword)... that represents the most common sword created in the middle ages... like a Viking sword, or a Crusaders / Knights sword. (NOT a short sword)
There have been ongoing arguments of "what is a bastard sword vs what is a long sword" IS a longsword in D&D actually the Bastard Sword from history?
I hope there is a return of Master Craft gear. I hope there is a return of more materials and metals for weapons and armor.
What are the rules for Siege engines? Trebuchet's, catapults, scorpions, ballista... Can you substitute "Siege Engines" for "Land Vehicle" if you have a military background?
Do you use Dex for attacking with a trebuchet? Or do you use wisdom or Intelligence? A massive engine doesn't really rely on agility... Are you disadvantage if you aren't skilled with siege engines?
I'm glad there are rules for buildings and construction cost. In many low-magic settings... you don't have a "magic item super center" to spend your piles of gold. So players end up wanting to buy property, or a wizard tower, or a private keep. I've had to wing it or looked to 3rd party sources to come up with costs to buy/build a roadside inn... tower, or a small keep... I can't wait to dive into the bastions rules!
Alt cover is breathtakingly beautiful! Can't wait to preorder it at my friendly local game store.
Do you have Instagram?
Nope. Am I missing something in particular?

I would love to preorder from DND Beyond, but I do not want to screw over my FLGS which is amazing!
If you had the option to send my FLGS their cut or a preorder then I would happily order from here.
We need to continue to fund and support all of our FLGS as well as we can because they are slowly disappearing.
As a computer programmer and front-end developer I do realize how difficult that this ask is.
A living campaign that's run at game stores would probably be the best way to provide support.
Also giving them exclusive Alt covers every few years to give a boost from collectors.
Thank you creators for taking the time to talk about it for the fans.

I hate the new orc design! I can understand wanting to make them friendlier, but you can look like a monster and be friendly at the same time. What's the point of having a normal human with tusks, where's the variety? Let people play as monsters!

On the other hand, I definitely get where you are coming from. That kind of change to a creature who has been at the core of the game for 50 years in all of the production art sets the tone for what people expect.
Edit: to give you an idea how ancient and change averse I am, I’m still kind of annoyed that kobolds are tiny dragons now instead of little dog men…

It was never said you can't. Don't be a jerk. The criticism was of the artwork which many gain inspiration from. If you do not gain inspiration from artwork that's fine but others do. Please be more accepting of others. :)
Here’s hoping the Item Crafting section (in either book) includes options for different materials and such for weapons and armor. Obviously not expecting every creature in the Monster Manual to have a crafting purpose, but rules for making armor out of bone, hide, scales, various metals (not just Mithril and Adamantine), etc.

Why Greyhawk, when they have so heavily invested in Forgotten Realms already?
I think because they have sold some Realm rights for Baldur's Gate videogames
@@marcofossati6636 :(
because its the 50th anniversary for dnd and they wanna go back to the roots with the 2024 book
So they can sell the Forgotten Realms campaign setting book later.
I am so excited for the return to Greyhawk. When we were kids - my brother and I had the huge poster sized maps of Greyhawk on our bedroom wall next to the bunk beds. 😊
Potions requiring a bonus action to drink always made sense, especially when one of the examples of free item interactions in the players handbook is literally chugging from a flagon of ale.
Love that you put Venger on the DM's Guide. And Warduke! Old school DnD!
Did a double take when I saw Venger
fingers crossed for guidance on using xanathar's and tasha's subclass with the 2024 classes like there is for races and backgrounds
That 19th century combat wheelchair scene and that Wild West orc scene were surprises that got me thinking of less common D&D flavors, like some of the 2014 PHB art. I wonder if there are new pictures showing even more, like, say, Arabian Nights, kung fu / wuxia, ninja infiltration, airship exploration, pirate swashbuckling, chanbara sword fighting, ...
How is the new PHB going to work in DnD Beyond? Will there be a toggle for using only the 2014 era books?
It's probably the same as the existing legacy content being on a toggle.
Hopefully they will finally offer a complete list of books to allow or exclude.
It should also be a "campaign" restriction for the DM to set.
@@SMXanatharTell that to Volo’s and Tome of Foes.
There’s a 0% chance they sell the old books these ones will replace. If you own it already, it’d be earmarked as legacy, but they’re retconning and delisting the original content for release.
I suspect it’ll replace the existing. They mention in the interview that the book can still work for 2014 characters but the old PHB rules will not work with the 2024 characters.
I wondered this too. I own the digital 2014 PHB and I want to buy and check out the new version but I’m in an online campaign where we aren’t switching to the new rules (at least not right away) so I need just the 2014 rules to apply to that character in dndbeyond.
It’s interesting to watch the handbook shift from prescriptive to descriptive in some ways. Rather than setting rules, they are now describing how the game has been played for years, sometimes in spite of the rules.
This sounds good. I want art of characters DOING THE ACTUAL ABILITIES of their class. What do some of these look like, such as Turning Undead? Sounds like we are finally getting more spell art. That would be great.
I want the Bible sized single book
This would be even bigger than Ptolus. 😮 It's probably too much to ask of the binding process, but glorious to consider.
I have a 1500 page Justice League Dark Omnibus. Sewn in Binding. It's not something that isn't feasible.
@@TweaksDIRT That sounds awesome. I'm not sure it's something into which WotC would want to invest, but one could always visit a bookbinder to have their core books merged. There are some cool rebinding videos on UA-cam.
@@elementzero3379 yeah it still would be smaller than the Bible I’m willing to bet
There’s a guy on UA-cam who cut up his 2014 books and bound them together.
What about the roleplay features from pre-2024 backgrounds, like having three commoner retainers who fetch wine or shine your armor from the old knight background, or entertainer letting you perform at places for food and stay? And what about custom background?
Is there a digital/physical bundle for the Collectors Cover version?
This has me really excited for the new 2024 edition rule books. My only play experience with DnD is through BG3, which I loved, & now I'm getting into painting minis (as I await the new PHB, DMG, & MM). The art & overall project's awesome, & I'm looking forward to reading these
I hope y'all make more games like BG3. DnD seems like such a well-constructed universe... &, with all that World Building, so much is possible. I'd love to see games, like BG3, that let you take your character to level 20 & feel like you've got as open a world to experience as WoW (but still feature offline modes & are console-friendly). There could even be real-time versions too
Remember everyone!
Regardless of how exciting this is, NO Preorders!
Pre-orders as a concept only hurt the consumers. Wait for it to be released, wait for the reviews.
Pre orders help the cash flow for new products. Less preorder equals less investment in high quality future products.
thank you for your time, great vid. Keep them coming 🙂
This all sounds awesome! More options, but delivered in a way that's easier to understand, and much easier for newer players to get into the game. I can't wait!
Loved everything I heard! I'm already looking at trying to get my hands on the sheets and every copy!
"I wish I could use Strength for Perception!" --a thing no one has ever said.
exactly, sounded ridiculous.
The Barbarian probably said that at some point, really straining his eye muscles
I feel like it's only been said for intimidation lmao.
I dunno. With dnd it's very possible lol
Strength for perception might be related to something like “Scent” where you try to take a deep breath to smell what might be around you. Also constitution option in the same vein.
For dexterity perception I would imagine something along the lines of a “sixth sense” or “Spider Sense” or Will’s goose bumps from Stranger Things where your body senses something off in the environment

Ty to actually have a 1 hour deep dive on the content. Awesome video!
I'm excited for this! I'm also interested to see how the general TTRPG community will refer to it colloquially. It seems like a pretty straightforward 5.5E and that feels simplest to me. Remember that not all of the 2024 Core Rulebooks are coming out in 2024 so I see that phrasing becoming difficult over time.
I do not like the restrictions to ability score choices with backgrounds. Custom backgrounds should have been the one thing adapted into the PHB from Tasha's Cauldron.
Pretty sure there'll be a custom background option like there was in the UA. The standard options are for new players and people who want to embrace the flavor.
I’m actually kinda excited about this now!

So... Will hasbro / wizzards be a monster in the monster manual? Hard to get excited when the company has been so hateful to it's fan base
Pre orders on DNDBeyond don’t seem to work from Canada? I’ve never had this issue before.
It seems like such a waste to not have added a spruced up Artificer into the 24PHB just to have it all in one place.
For real though, it's like they hate the class so much they left it out on purpose.
Really excited about this!
The impact of art on setting the atmosphere and fostering imagination is heavily underrated. It's also what makes the books really appealing to buy. I'm glad they focused on that.
Have they given a reason yet why the Artificer isn’t being added to the new core books?
Every time y'all treat fighters as "they should be simple" it feels like an insult to our intelligence and a reason to just keep casters stronger. It ain't like mass-warriors cutting waterfalls and or other epic feats is limited to anime. That happens in Celtic myth, Greek myth, myth in general. God, let fighters be wu-xia/Tuatha de danaan nonsense with equal epic power to casters.
The fighter video they released was actually not bad, they got some cool tactical abilities. So they aren't dumb but perhaps easier to play
@@20storiesunder I still hate that they know maneuvers should be baseline but steer clear
You should watch the fighter video...
As a subclass. Or an alternate fighter.
I would not like that personally.
There should be classes that can win without being epic. It feels like a simple man standing against mythic monsters. If fighter starts to walk on water - then that feeling would be crashed.
I like the art! The scenes all seem like a dramatic "Roll Initiative!" moment!
I’m hyped! I’ve loved watching these deep dives with Jeremy, Chris, and Todd - really good to understand the process and see behind the screen. Lots of promising changes!
Hope they added more backgrounds as well. Half the time I used backgrounds from another company because there was more to choose from
Even though I’m not super super stoked about 5.5 because it’s pretty much just a revamp of fifth edition with nothing super significant that we’ve seen so far, here’s to hoping that I am greatly mistaken, and they completely blow my mind with the new stuff today. I still love dungeons and dragons. It was the first system I ever played back in the Mid90s when I was a teenager and I will always have a special place for dungeons and dragons on my role-play shelf. However, the system is definitely getting really really boring at this point lol for me at least. But I hope that everyone that still enjoys it gets to enjoy it and has many many great adventures for the years to come, here’s another 50 years of dungeons and dragons.
What's 5.5
@@JoshuaJones_solarisdevorakthese new core rulebooks they’re talking about aren’t going to be “dnd 6e”, they’re updating and adding to 5e
I think it will blow your mind. The changes are pretty significant in areas in which change was sorely needed. The books themselves also sound like they could be the best books, in terms of organization and usability, that D&D has ever given us. Let's hope so.
I hope you love it. I hope we all love it.
I disagree. The fighter will be so different and "fresh" that players will not want to play the old version. Also, i suspect many of the species (previously "races") will be different as well and the players will want to play these. This is a different version of 5th.
I mostly skipped 3.5 because I was near the starting point of a very long 3.0 campaign. I'm not sure if I will end up in a similar situation. However I will be jumping into a short campaign as a player to get a sense of what the updated version offers.
Talking heads in video say: "New feats! New options! New this! New that!"
Me the DM hears: "More things to make encounters even more impossible to balance."
* Laughs in Pathfinder *
Exactly my concern. Superhero characters galore now. These guys are doing a lot of patting themselves on the back but they might have broken the game balance.
So you wanted no new options? No new feats? Less stuff? Not sure I really understand that
Ironically, in the DM handbook, it actually shows and explains how to customize aspects of the game, to include encounters, items, and character abilities.
@CCriddy50 making players near invincible creates game imbalance. Enjoy finding DMs who want to DM a bunch of superhero’s who do damage when they miss and can essentially heal up on the fly as bonus actions.
5:54 Firearms are no longer optional rules! Sniper aarakocra, go!
I'm really excited by what I'm seeing here! I'd love to see more development in tools to aid DMs and this seems like a great step in that direction ☺
Fairly minor thing but I'm very excited to hear the summoning spells are being adjusted to give more variety and options, trying to marry the cool variety of the 2014 conjure spells, without being as laughably busted and flooding the initiative to track some selfish guy who summons 8 wolves
Never get tired of Todd, Chris or Jeremy. More videos
So excited for this, loved the unearthed so if this is improved from that.... Hope I can find a group to play it regularly.
As a D&D player and DM since 3.5 edition... 5.5 edition looks absolutely great. Because this is definitely exactly what a new edition looks like.
Now please just call it 5.5. The community WILL call it 5.5, and it WILL stick.
Really looking forward to this
Can’t wait
My favorite changes so far have been the spells. Every change in Unearthed Arcana was really good, so that alone might be a reason to get these.
There’s an entire section in the DM’s toolbox on curses? Maybe we’ll see a much improved version of the remove curse spell! I made a buffed homebrew version to include a wider variety of magic under the “curses” umbrella because I love the concept of dark magic so much, so I’m definitely excited to see where they go with that!
I really wanted to buy a bundle with the alternate covers. When will those be available?
Probably months after all books have been released.
When can I expect to have these books available in EU? Just tried to preorder and seemed like I couldn't order it for Germany :(
OMG! Very excited about all three books. I don't remember ever before getting excited about a DM guide book. Thank you for all the hard work guys!
10:57 loving that venger art!
Ughhh, I can’t stop myself so I’ll probably be grabbing the books as soon as they release, but I likely won’t be playing this version until I finish my current 5e campaign which is set to finish around the end of 2025.
I mean it's backward compatible with 5e so you can shift to it easily
Should be easy enough to recreate characters in the new version and keep playing
I can stop myself. After the last year or so of the Hasbro/WotC stunts, I'm done with them. Moved on to Tales of the Valiant and Dragonbane, and watching DC20 with great interest.
@@opscontaylor8195 That's crazy
@@opscontaylor8195have fun! But also…why are you watching this video?
I really hope that Hasbro doesn't ruin the great work of this creative team again through stupidity! I'm looking forward to September.
It's hasbro. Of course they will.
I can’t wait to get my hands on the books!!
25:26 you know JC is serious when he drops the juicyfruit
🤔 Everyone looks cute and cuddly in the illustrations.
And..so what? What is your point?
Totally agree.
I admit it… I had walked away for a variety of reasons, but I will be placing my preorder.
So if I order the bundle does each book come in separately at release or am I waiting until all are released at the end
The tracking sheets sound great but all I could think of was "TPS reports".
Its so exciting to see people who are passionate about their product. Its almost like they care about what they put out. Maybe these people should actually be running the company / own the company.
If they didn’t fix dual wielding, it’s a wash
swear
This is looking really promising! It always gets me excited and enthusiastic about the game to see these creators talking with such passion about the game and the work they have put into it. And the art inspires my creativity so much! It just makes me want to play!
The kobolds on the cover of the PHB are clearly Tucker’s Kobalds
