    Thank you for this, a very informative and insightful overview of the Kona.
    I am expecting delivery of 2022 in blue at the end of the month and your enthusiasm is infectious.🙏🏻👍🏻

    Awesome video, thinking the 2X is the way to go for touring nowadays - awesome bike, love the Sutra line-up. The newest blue version of the Sutra offers the MicroShift 11-48 cassette, which results in a super low climbing gear of 17.2 gear inches. Incredible

    • @bananasforbikes
      @bananasforbikes  Рік тому

      I'm guesing that's a 1x with the microshift? The last few cog jumps are 28-34-40-48. I'd want to try it to see if those are too wide.

      @@bananasforbikes Good question. Kona website just says either the GRX crank, or Prowheel for the Sutra - with the 30/46t chainrings. I'm assuming they would both be 2X......but you know what they say about assuming :) The gear inches in that set-up would be great for touring, but yeah the 6-8 tooth jumps are pretty huge.

    • @bananasforbikes
      @bananasforbikes  Рік тому

      @@jasonpostma7843 i don't think they can do a 2x with a 46 chainring up front and a 48 in the rear. Your chain would be way too long, putting the derailleur at a bad angle when in the small chainring. That's why the grx 812 is a 1x setup

    So helpful bro.... bro can you tell tell me which bicycle is best for africa bicycle tour like (EGPYT,cairo to SOUTHAFRICA, captown).❤❤@😊i am 185.2

      Surly disc trucker would be a great option. Something with quick release skewers rather than through axles. Mechanical disc brakes. Steel frame.

    Hi, thanks for the video!! I was between this bike and SE version, but you helped me to decide. So I finally bought this one :) I'm very happy with it. Just the issue of the shifters. I uploaded it to 11-42 (the cassette was the only thing I changed). It works well, but not perfect. I wonder if you are happy with your upgrades. Does it work well? Did you finally change to 11-42? With the 10-speed it is not prepared for 11-42.

    • @bananasforbikes
      @bananasforbikes  Рік тому +1

      I still have the original drive train. I figured if I need something smaller I should either train more or go with a white industries 44-26 chainring up front.

      @@bananasforbikes What about the GRX 800? Not using it anymore? Thanks for the information! I’d like to go to 11s 11-42. Do you think is it possible?

    • @bananasforbikes
      @bananasforbikes  Рік тому

      @@sjarouge the grx 812 is great if you want to go 1x11. I agree the 10 speed 11 to 42 is a bit of a spread. I didn't like the close ratio 11 to 34 casette so I switched back to the stock 10 speed. Also the trp brakes are vastly easier to set up and maintain compared to the hydraulic

    I got the same Model and just mounted my rack for the first time. And to my surprise it is not symmetric to the bike. I found that indeed the eyelets for rack mounting are not symmetric to each other making the rack sitting slightly off. Did you find something like that aswell? Its really strange to me and I dont think my steel frame could be bend like that. The axle is fine and the tyre also runs fine. Any suggestions?

    Very nice bike! How does this compare vs your Cannondale Topstone? So far, I am leaning towards the Topstone unless i may want to do more loaded touring.

    • @bananasforbikes
      @bananasforbikes  Рік тому

      The cannondale is great for road riding, fast gravel riding. I've also put fenders and a rear rack on the cannondale if you want to do some light touring or commuting. It's definitely lighter than the kona. The kona has more mounts, easier to switch up parts due to the external mounting. Similar pricing between the two bikes. Thanks for watching!

    I put a Vittoria Terreno mix (very small nobs) 29x2.0 on the rear and while it fits- it had like only 1mm of space from the tubes where the fenders mount- chain stay was maybe 2-3mm. I don’t understand how people can fit a 2.1…. I ended up checking to a 700x47 in the rear to be safe

    • @bananasforbikes

      I put a 700x45 and it had good clearance but I haven't tried 2.1. I heard people having clearance issues on the fender bridge that connects that seat stays

      @@bananasforbikes Thanks. I also like to be a bit upright. But not too much. About a 45 degree angle. Based on your and my body size, I’m thinking I need a 54. 52 worked, but needed a 90 mm stem.
