Sonic fans are pretty much always at the verge of a mental breakdown at this point. I don't think we've gotten an amazing 3D Sonic game since Generations. Frontiers was a success, sure, and I loved that game, but after replaying it a couple of times the only substance to it there really is are the boss fights and ironically the cyberspace levels that have 4 themes to them. I love the concept of open world sonic, but the formula they went with really doesn't work for Sonic.
@manwhodoesthings Cyberspace is a neat idea that I like to see it evolve a bit, but the repetitive same old (3) generations assets just made me roll my eyes. At least use the "null space" assets and mix them a bit.
Palworld shows that if there's a genre completely starved of fresh ideas, you can released even a 'just okay' product and it will do insanely well if it has a handful of good, original ideas among the derivative.
Actually palworld just handled its marketing so insanely well that most people should REALLY open their eyes and ears to how they did it. They broke several Steam Records. Actually most of them.
@@slurmpus I mean... when are there original idea's anymore? You make ANY creature capture game, even with a alternative artstyle, and people will STILL call it a pokemon ripoff/Clone and what are you gonna do to make yourself really stand out? Can't make giants, can't Do time stuff, can't do type changing, can't do special transformations, can't do special moves, can't do special region/biome variants... at this rate? fine, i don't care if it copies/rips off pokemon. Anything is better than the consistent NONE effort of pokemon games these days anyway, they could use some competition to make them pick up their pants and actually start trying and making good things for a change again.
Just saying, there IS a reason to ride Rushoar: He's a mount with Mining as a Work Ability, so you can use his attacks while mounted to mine real fast early on. (At least, until you get something more dedicated like a Digtoise, anyway) (And I'm pretty sure Rune Factory did the whole "rolling sheep" thing before? I know RF3 did it because you play AS a sheep in that game, and rolling was definitely an attack you could do. Rolling sheep seem to be a thing in a LOT of games, actually.)
7:36 Eikthyrdeer is also inspired by the norse Eikthyrnir which is literally just a Stag in Vahalla. Even Valheim played around with the idea and made him a big lightning boy with horns made of bone and iron. Xerneas no doubt used the same kind of inspiration back when X and Y released.

I always hear about people talk about creature catching games and talk exclusively about pokemon when the Switch has like a million different creature catchers... SMT V, Monster Hunter Stories, Dragon Quest Monsters, World of Final Fantasy, Persona 5... honestly, I think pokemon and GameFreak would have more competition if people didn't pretend these games weren't in the same genre or just straight up didn't exist...

"Object mons are bad" followed by "chandelure is one of the best designs period". "Newer mons just aren't as appealing or good". No, muk/grimer/voltorb exist, you're cherrypicking. The truth is we all have designs we hate and we think we have to justify them, so we give halfassed and hypocritical reasons. Yokai Watch deserved better man, those games are surprisingly really fun and the battles are way more involved than anything pokémon has put out. Really big shame we never got it on the Switch...
Direhowl honestly just looks like a typical direwolf. The design is way to generic for anyone to claim it's a rip off pokemon in my opinion. I think it's one of the odder pal to pokemon comparisons, since it seems like such a stretch to me.

One thing I will say: there is an enormous amount of Ark in this game. I have 5,000 hours in Ark, and Palworld is extremely derivative. However, it’s derivative in a good way. There is far less grind in Palworld than in Ark, the creature management is far more streamlined, and both games are equally as glitchy. But what Palworld has that Ark doesn’t is forward momentum. The devs are actively working on the glitches and bugs. There have already been several major updates that only work on fixing bugs. Ark hasn’t had that in a long time. Official Palworld servers have really long timers for things. This is another aspect taken from Ark, but the timers are much nicer to players in Palworld. And, base setups allow for automatic resource collection, something Ark still doesn’t really have. All in all, some people may find Palworld grindy, but you have to understand that it’s a vast improvement from the blueprint they built the game on. Huge eggs on official servers take 80 hours or so to hatch. That’s a really long time. But compare it to Ark, where the largest creatures take 24 hours to hatch, but then require the player to log in every 4-5 hours to press e on that dino so you get full imprint bonus. And you have to log in every 4-5 hours for a WEEK! That’s how bad Ark was, and with that context, Palworld is FAR more respectful of a player’s time. I do hope they lower the timers further, but they’re moving in the right direction at least.
I still don't get why everyone got livid over that Dinossom redesign it genuinely looked better imo, and I'm 95% sure that Palworlds devs *already* did something like that with Lunaris if that cut Shadow Mewtwo's internal name is anything to go by.

just cause theres other things where sheep roll doesnt mean wooloo wasnt where they took the idea, but its a generic enough design anyway its not really a huge deal and the other ones are bad enough already
It’s the design being so similar combined with the rolling that makes it sus, not the rolling animation in a vacuum. I’m pretty sure that would be a better point to make than the “why have fantasy sheep roll”.
11:10 Heya! RushoarFan420 here! Ive actually found that ingame my precious boar Rushmoar has the ability to make mining a breeze by charging into mineral deposits while mounted. Not sure if this is a Rushoar exclusive thing or an ability shared by any Pals who can mine and are also mountable, but I assure you I very much appreciate saving on pickaxes and getting twice the resources twice as fast. Sidenote: You can actually breed Pals with traits like “Runner” and “Swift” to make em faster as mounts. I thought that was pretty neat. However I do wish they had more of an application in battle. They seem to be only relevant when it comes to movement while mounted.

@@checkerhat327typhlosion doesn’t own the combination of cream and blue, man. It’s definitely a stretch to say they copied a color scheme from pokemon when you’re talking about 2-3 common colors, they’re not exact copies, the monster itself looks completely different, and you’re comparing it to a franchise including over a thousand monsters designs each having an alternate form with different colors. Outside of more “exotic” color schemes like the Xatu clone’s it’s just not a great point in general. Personally I think it’s a waste even bringing them up when you have blatant copies like the Cobalion one.

28:38 - Gotta love how Shadowbeak also straight-up has Silvally's crest thing At this point I'm starting to think that not only was the Pokemon design cramping very intentional from a time saving/creative bankruptcy point of view, but specifically because they knew it'd've gotten people talking about the game, and that's pretty much why the game exploded as big as it did, free advertising, basically
Additionally it makes them easier to like or associate with things we do like. I've played other creature catchers and couldn't name you a single memorable creature, they just don't have as appealing of designs to me. But meganium goodra? Oh that's dinossom and its cute. Bushi? Technically, Palworld can't get into legal trouble. Most Pokemon, despite how protective Nintendo can be of it's products, are not copyrighted/trademarked. Dire Howl is just a wolf (probably a dire wolf). Saying it's ripping off Lykanrock is saying Lykanrock is ripping off a wolf.
The inspiration isn't copyrighted, but the actual design of it is, so something that is a clear copy of it would be infringing Nintendo's copyright. As long as it is a few minor features with different mannerisms, then it should be okay. It has to be distinguishable enough from what someone is trying to say is a copy to not get the two confused when looking at them. So yea, Pal is fine, Nintendo is not going to be happy about that, though. They fought a while, but eventually, the community just made what we asked from them ourselves, a more mature pokemon game.
Its stunning to see the reaches people make ro defend designs that are pokemon parts staples to each other. If pokemon/Nintendo was really so awful, people sure gi out if their way ti copy their stuff and try justifying it with crap excuses
@@DexDexter0 And it's stunning to me how much people froth in anger over Palworld using such legally distinct designs. I get this "Pokémon-ish" game that I'm loving, and you get actual Pokémon games that you love for whatever reason. It's a win/win. Why complain? But remember that Nintendo/Game Freak has been scummy in their own ways. They were copying designs way before Palworld, pitching lies about their copy-pasting of models, hacking apart their pokedex entries into small chunks with every new game, selling copies of the same game for full price with only slight changes, and delivering full-games as broken messes. it’s not about being more fun it’s about being different, pokemon has been stale for the last 15 years or the like so people just want something new with actual effort put into it. it’s why everybody liked legends arceus so much, and why people are not only happy it’s getting a sequel but that the game is NOT coming out this year, it shows they might actually be trying this time, and with the new formula at that
Why do [people that don't like turn based RPGs] trying to explain why they prefer [palworld] over [pokemon] always have to say that [palworld] is better or more [fun]? I get it, you don't like the [RPG mechanics] in the [turn based RPG game franchise], but asking for [pokemon] to be more similiar to it is not only unrealistic, but weird and in my bad days I might even add, dumb.
This game has essentially nothing to do with Pokémon. It's an ARK clone with the dinosaur models replaced with bootleg pokemon. Palworld seems to be scratching an itch that pokemon fans have been having for decades. Pokemon has become stale and are only now hopping on trends that were popular 10 years ago.
I still don't get the argument for Anubis, you can't trademark an ancient egypt god, i feel like an anubis like creature is public domain. Just throwimg this out there, Breath of the Wild didnt invent that climbing mechanic. That was Shadow of the Colossus. In fact, in both of these 2 said games; They have the same climbing animation. They both use a circle for thier stamina. They both save some stamina when climbing diagonally. In both games, you can gain stamina by eating lizards. Also, stamina needing to sprint, also not invented by Zelda. Unless you are saying Fortnite and Skyrim are ripping off Breath of the Wild somehow.
One tiny thing I appreciate about PalWorld is the care taken in giving every Pal unique animations to match their design and behavior. Not in Pokemon. Also 7:07 Grizbolt is more like Electabuzz and Zangoose had a love child.
Best part about Grizbolt? A gun expert looked at the guns in the game and was amazed as to how accurate they are. Grizbolt using his own bodies electricity to spin the wheel of the gun as its needed to function
@@AsecasJavi majority of Pokémon games either don’t really animate their pokemon and just kind of wiggle the sprites around, use screen effects to simulate motions, or they reuse similar animations on all pokemon. In Palworld for example, Depresso has a unique mining animation where it hits the rock really unenthusiastically. The martial arts panda bows before chopping trees. The cloudy one pulling into a cloud ball to sleep he showed in this video. They pay attention to the Pals’ personality and design and build very believable and tailored behavior animations for them.
I 100% understand _why_ Palworld ripped so hard. There's literally a thousand Pokémon now at least 80% of their designs are _at least_ passable and the rest have a lot of potential to be really good too. The strength of Pokémon _should be_ their ability to drop a game featuring over a thousand unique monsters with their own spot in a fantastical ecosystem in which every Pokémon _can_ be usable for _some purpose._ But for some reason Pokémon has, of all things, a League of Legends issue where instead of going back and fixing up old Pokémon in terms of designs, movesets, and abilities, they just keep rolling out new ones at an unhealthy rate with a new mechanic every generation and ditching the last one. All this to say that, if someone wanted to make a creature collection game that does what Pokémon _should be doing,_ they need to come up with a thousand unique designs, mechanics, attacks, passives, and everything else. Completely undoable without the immense number of resources and enormous cast that Pokémon has built over the years. So it's not the blatant ripping that Palworld did that I'm annoyed by, it's the fact that they didn't really do much with their copied/reworked designs nor did they take their game seriously, instead making what is Pokémon+ARK with guns (if ARK doesn't have guns which I dunno 🤷♀️). It's just not a very good creature collection or battling game, and those are the two things I want from a Pokémon-like.
You raised an honestly good point. Some Pals, like Jetragon, really should control more like planes instead of helicopters. Just a constant forward-moving motion you have to steer, trading controllability for sheer velocity.
One other problem that I have with this game is that the art direction isn’t completely solid. Like we have Pals themselves with still have that cartoony Pokémon-like designs to them, but then we have a realistic landscape in front of you, and then there are the guns which are just guns. Most of the game isn’t properly stylized and we just get clash of designs, and it would be interesting if they were fixed so that at the very least, it matches more with the designs of the Pals. Like Mossanda can have its own design for rocket launcher where it looks like bamboo.
6:58 Wow this one's literally just Gleam from Yokai watch! Down to the pose and the flame ontop of the hat. I guess they thought they could be less original if they took from a much more obscure franchise :(
To be fair Mossanda's name is such because he is naturally a mossy panda first, the grenade launchers are human interference, so naming the pal Bamboom is not really correct, as not every Mossanda has grenade launchers to pull out.
I think every suggestion you made for Pal World was to mimic an other game's feature. "This game is just parts of other games combined. It should be more like Final Fantasy IV" ^^D I just noticed it. Not against the ideas at all. Underwater exploration would be a great addition. I kinda want several pals out at once when I'm out and about. Maybe put one on resource gathering while you fly away to find a good place for a base, retract your pal with the stuff. Idk just an idea
I caught the tower bosses with that glitch. Beat only 2 of them but I have them all at my base. As for merchants, without a glitch, you can capture them, put them at your base for infinite ammo or other things as long as you have the money. Pretty good stuff.
Ya know what my favorite Palworld argument is? When people bring up Sales as if thats some kinda moniker of the game being good when Palworld has outsold in terms of copies; Nier Automata, FF7 Remake, Baulders Gate 3, Armored Core 6, Elden Ring, and God of War Ragnarock
BG3 was an interesting game. Act 3 was long and boring with epic parts and act 1 was great. Finished 2 playthroughs including an honour mode run but it makes sense that Pal World outsold it as to me? Even in Early Access Pal World is a better game. Unless you mod Bg3 then you can have a whole lot of unintended fun ;)
Yeah I think he said he's a "trend-follower" and literally took a bunch of current trends and mashed them together. Seems like too weird of a mix to me but I can see how it would be fun.

The thing that bugs me most, watching footage is...the enviornments, Pals, and humans all look like they belong to 3 different series/artists. They feel very incongruous...
6:26 Funny enough I was thinking Hawlucha and Decidueye. And a little Blaziken for good measure. All the fighting birds. They slurried so many Pokemon together it somehow comes out the other side original again.
At this point, i think its too late to update the existing pal designs, but hopefully they can focus on making more original designs for new pals, now that they have a budget to spend.
lol, @ Eikthydeer, I was replaying Valheim not long before palworld, its literally a cartoony version of Eikthyr, who is in turn a knock off of viking mythology. The Pal designs remind me of when cartoons do a Pokemon themed episode but since they can't get the license they create a Pokemon bootleg. Seeing the satirical nature Palworld has, maybe that's what they were going for, but they could've been a bit more original with the more, blatant Pals.

I still don't get why everyone got livid over that Dinossom redesign
it genuinely looked better imo, and I'm 95% sure that Palworlds devs *already* did something like that with Lunaris if that cut Shadow Mewtwo's internal name is anything to go by.

Pokemon should be ashamed of copying Dragon Quest and kaiju movies and now Spyro too.
just cause theres other things where sheep roll doesnt mean wooloo wasnt where they took the idea, but its a generic enough design anyway its not really a huge deal and the other ones are bad enough already

11:00 you can actually ride some pokemon in the lets go games, but im not sure if enough people even bought the game to discover that
I 100% understand _why_ Palworld ripped so hard.
Alright I know this has nothing to do with the video but Soda is pushing his luck with these thumbnails.
@triplexagon He's done worse. Or better depending on your point of view. Had to change the thumbnail and all
One other problem that I have with this game is that the art direction isn’t completely solid.

I'm also convinced that Rad shares the same passive as ol' Vinny Vinesauce, which is to say being a glitch magnet
To be fair Mossanda's name is such because he is naturally a mossy panda first, the grenade launchers are human interference, so naming the pal Bamboom is not really correct, as not every Mossanda has grenade launchers to pull out.
I’m really enjoying the editing quality and flow of your more recent videos! Keep it up!
It's always nice to see a new radicalsoda episode. You're probably one of my top 3 youtubers.
Also boobies
I think every suggestion you made for Pal World was to mimic an other game's feature. "This game is just parts of other games combined. It should be more like Final Fantasy IV" ^^D I just noticed it. Not against the ideas at all. Underwater exploration would be a great addition.
I kinda want several pals out at once when I'm out and about. Maybe put one on resource gathering while you fly away to find a good place for a base, retract your pal with the stuff. Idk just an idea
I have no idea how RadicalSoda got away with that thumbnail, but godspeed my man!
It's not about the adventure, it's about the pals we sacrificed along the way
_"I don't know if I ever played such a glitchy game before"_
Sonic Colors Ultimate:
Literally any 3D Sonic.
28:30 That's not Type Null, it's Silvally.
If they were to make a sequel/update where they redesigned all the Pals to be more unique, I think that'd be neat.
Just neat.
All those games are trash tho
@@lenathemaid Lowest quality bait. Try again, maybe you'll make someone mad next time.
But unlike those games, Palworld became the #1 game on Steam
@@FriendlyNeighborhoodNoob really makes you think doesnt it.
Those names of the pals…. My favorites are “Hey, Arnold?”, “Peepsi” and “7 Days at Fruddy’s” (not to mistake for “5 nights at Freddy’s”.)
I think the sheep rolling thing is just because they're round enough and devs think: "That would be cute". And honestly, it is.
Smash, next question
But that's an owl...
@@Nekoszowa still would
I heard from the dev himself that apparently part of his process in making games is putting lots of different things together. Take this as you will
Looking at the companies history, yeah... and finishing early access games ain't really in that pattern.
Yeah I think he said he's a "trend-follower" and literally took a bunch of current trends and mashed them together. Seems like too weird of a mix to me but I can see how it would be fun.
@@PiousMoltar I mean, throwing shit at a wall and then seeing what sticks is a genuine method of game design. They just got lucky when they picked the traits that fulfil a niche in the market that has not been done correctly before. And I say that as someone who genuinely likes Palworld. I hope they continue working on it now that they struck gold.
I mean, look I do that with my little projects too, but the idea is to put a little more effort into making it your own.
13:30 “oh dude I think I’m gonna die”
*spots water*
“Ah, no there’s water I’ll be fine”
*Dies*
Rushroar actually makes a great early game miner when mounted. It's charge can chunk stone and ore nodes with ease.
6:33 Whenever I see this Pal, it reminds me of Sheen from Yo-Kai Watch. I would let it slide b/c they’re both cloaked ronin, but they both have a tuft of fire on their hats!
it might be plagarized to some extent but honestly, game freak dropped the ball too many times. they had a goldmine and thought to themselves "you know what? lets fill this with crap and farm mushrooms". its time someone else took up the concept and actually made something with it.
I think it's more the blatantly stealing not only official, but fanmade Pokémon designs too. Not to mention the same company is making a rip off of hollow knight, an indie game.
That thumbnail is uh... testing limits
The thing that bugs me most, watching footage is...the enviornments, Pals, and humans all look like they belong to 3 different series/artists. They feel very incongruous...
Kind adds to the unhinged feel of the game
6:26 Funny enough I was thinking Hawlucha and Decidueye. And a little Blaziken for good measure. All the fighting birds.
They slurried so many Pokemon together it somehow comes out the other side original again.
At this point, i think its too late to update the existing pal designs, but hopefully they can focus on making more original designs for new pals, now that they have a budget to spend.
12:20 Trove? They've got flying mounts - plenty, actually. Most have special abilities or different projectiles too
6:13 similar? How? The only common features I see is that their both lupines.
lol, @ Eikthydeer, I was replaying Valheim not long before palworld, its literally a cartoony version of Eikthyr, who is in turn a knock off of viking mythology. I mean people look at real animals, think; "How can I make this look cartooney" and it looks like a hundred other images, its just how things go.
The Pal designs remind me of when cartoons do a Pokemon themed episode but since they can't get the license they create a Pokemon bootleg. Seeing the satirical nature Palworld has, maybe that's what they were going for, but they could've been a bit more original with the more, blatant Pals.
Palworld is like the only example I've seen of a game ripping off so many things. That it loops around to being fun and entertaining
Yeah some of the Pals are kinda like… one step away from a lawsuit.
I literally called one of the Eevee lookalikes “Steevia.” And I haven’t looked much into it mostly cause I’m saving for rent and I don’t wanna spoiler myself, but there are some pretty creative looking Pals, like the floating cosmic looking one is absolutely adorable!
what are they suing over, a monster design? Well you better prepare a lawsuit against every fan made mon design as well as temtem and nexomon too cause they're also "infringing" by your logic
@@substitutedoll5224 Buddy. I literally just said some of the Pals are kinda pushing it design wise. You literally decided to make up an argument about other Monster Catching properties being potential rip-offs just cause I made a jokingly fair statement.
@@substitutedoll5224 bro has 1 braincell
@@substitutedoll5224 Fan games don't make money, that's where the differences lie.
@@substitutedoll5224Saying this when Nintendo has shut down Pokemon fan games like Pokemon Uranium with original regions and more original creatures is extremely ironic.
15:40 bro really tried to sneak Lopunny in 💀
im like a sleeper agent. i hear the activation phrase "open world survival crafting game" and fall asleep.
Just wanted to say love your evolution in art style! Really cool, keep up the good work👍
About “rip off” designs the only thing I really have to say, my big understanding of Palworld is that it’s mostly a Pokémon parody, I might be wrong but I always assumed it was intentional
But yeah I do agree that the more unique ones are better
It is, but at the cost of maing pretty bland designs, they really should've done their own thing.
Rob was REALLY cooking with this video! I know he said he wasn’t having fun editing it, but I thought it was really good!
