Sudden Exit: Kim Godwin, 1st Black Woman To Lead A Major Broadcast News Division Retires Abruptly

- Kim Godwin, the first Black woman to run a broadcast TV news division, is leaving ABC News after three years.
The Walt Disney Co.-owned network announced Godwin's departure Sunday. Godwin joined ABC in May 2021 from CBS News, where she was an executive vice president and oversaw its diversity efforts.
Here's part of Goodwin's statement about her retirement from broadcast news:
"I understood and appreciated the profound significance of being the first Black woman to lead a national broadcast news network when I accepted the role as president of ABC News a little over three years ago. It's both a privilege and a debt to those who chipped away before me to lead a team whose brand is synonymous with trust, integrity and a dogged determination to be the best in the business."
Godwin's sudden exit came after reports that Debra OConnell, the Disney veteran hired in February to oversee ABC News, was conducting a review of Goodwin's performance and had voiced dissatisfaction in private conversations with the network's state of affairs.

Creating your own is not as easy as you try to make it out tube. There are challenges such as black balling. They make it difficult for you o compete.

i am black and i am going to speak the truth about this...kim had no business getting that job in the first place...she was only picked because she is a black woman....it fit the dei woke profile....abc just wanted to say that they picked the first black woman to head a news team....the same can be said about the woman running msnbc....that job at abc should have probably gone to a qualified white man....also the black women that they pick for positions of power always have a bad attitude and are very nasty acting...good riddance to her...give that job to a qualified man....period

when i was a kid, i used to love reading about "the 1st black" this and that in Ebony and Jet magazine. then my dad got a subscription to Black Enterprise and that was even better.
