Hello there! This project has been an absolute nightmare to render. To the point where I'm convinced more than ever that maybe its time to get a new editing program because that has been my worst enemy. Especially in the past year. Not only is it responsible for some slightly quieter/louder moments you may hear. Not only is it responsible for lowering the quality of a few clips, but it also de-synced the video and audio multiple times as I tried getting this up here. Regardless of these struggles, I hope you all enjoy this lil video and I can't thank you enough for watching it! Hopefully, the next one won't be longer than Lord of the Rings. Until next time!

fun fact in a brer rabbit comic story of the laughing place its says how brer rabbit was caught what happened is brer fox tricks brer rabbit by saying "I give up trying to catch you you your to clever for me and brer bear" hearing this brer rabbit goes to bed but little dose he know it was a trap so while he was in his slumber brer fox takes him to his cave and then he wakes up in the cave and then the laughing place story we love and know plays out.

Commenting before I watch this video (I'm saving it for later lmao) I HAVEN'T EVEN SEEN THE VIDEO YET AND I'M SO HAPPY IT WAS RECOMMENDED TO ME. I also love the thumbnail.
    Edit:
OMG FR. I was 6 when I took my first trip to WDW in 2012 and one of the only things I remember is splash mountain. I remember when we got to the lift hill and I was so scared of the vultures at the bottom and I remember seeing brer Rabbit all tied up. 6 year old me thought that was insane! I still have the picture of going down the drop. I actually brought a stuffed animal Dog with me on the ride which my dad was worried it was gonna get wet. When we went down the drop I ducked. I held up the dog so it kinda looks like the dog is the only thing sitting in the seat LOL.
I watched Song of the South on internet archive and apparently there are dvd copies being sold on Amazon.
The effort you went through for this video is insane. So much that it hurts me. AND I DIDN'T EVEN DO ANYTHING!!

@@TrevorTiger A couple things I wanted to give notes on, If you knew any of this already beforehand I'm sorry lol:
2:23:56 - It's funny you say that because years ago when the ride opened there used to be a hopping Br'er Rabbit animatronic that openly taunted Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear for their inability to capture him. The effect stopped working after a few years and it would be brought back sparingly, with its last known appearance being sometime in 2021. It actually shows up earlier in the video in footage you used.
2:25:01 - The Br'er Frog animatronic started hissing as a result of the hydraulics inside it not working anymore. The mouth stopped moving and they turned the light off him to not draw attention to him I suppose.
2:32:07 - These vultures are from America Sings, they were given the name Boothill Boys due to them appearing above a cemetery in the Wild West segment of the show. Additionally, the original folktales had a character named Br'er Turkey Buzzard so that might be why they were included.
2:32:56 - Br'er Fox's silhouette used to be there like it is in the DL and TDL versions of the ride. The effect was faulty and out of sync in the ride's final years and so sometimes it straight up wouldn't appear at all.
2:48:57 - That's Br'er Rabbit's friend Br'er Terrapin, one of the only critters who actually likes and tolerates Br'er Rabbit.
2:50:55 - Not really a note so much as a comment; that Br'er Fox animatronic always creeped me the fuck out. It's the way he lunges out of the darkness and doesn't speak nor make any noise, just glaring at Br'er Rabbit (and by proxy us) that gets me.
2:51:38 - A fun fact about this scene is that originally the song Miss Possum and Miss Rabbit sung was "Sooner or Later," which was a song Hattie McDaniel's character in the movie sung. Lyrics are changed but it's essentially the same song. They played this for the first few months of operation before switching it with Burrow's Lament.
2:51:55 - Something most people don't know about is Splash Mountain has an entire backstory to it: Rackety Raccoon owned a moonshine still and one day it blew up, taking the nearby Beaver Bros.' dam with it and flooding the area. My personal theory is that the Laughin' Place still has a lot of that alcohol in the water so the critters go there to get utterly wasted and laugh their troubles away. Br'er Fox preys on the drunk critters and kills and eats them.
2:54:00 - Mr. Bluebird IS actually present in the DL version, but he's shoved aside in a fairly easy-to-miss part of the finale. He can be seen perched on a briar branch whistling along to Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah.
2:59:38 - Funnily enough, the Tokyo version of the ride opened up one day earlier than WDW's version. It looks that good after 30 years because the Oriental Land Company, who owns Tokyo Disney Resort, is very picky about how their attractions are presented. I don't really like how TDL's looks, it looks like the bayou aesthetic they went for in the DL version as opposed to the bright and colorful one they went with for WDW. That one resembles the animated segments. They changed the scene order a bit so we no longer have the Geese singing How Do You Do, which is something that furrows my brow.
3:07:09 - I love this petition because not only does it shoot itself in the foot by saying the following: 'However this is just a log ride in a theme park, abbeloved one yes, but at the end of the day it’s just a ride, there are more pressing matters in the world currently.' So by their own logic, a retheme is not a discussion point worth entertaining. Also of note, a counter-petition was made that gained well over 90k signatures.

      - It's funny you say that because LMG Vids brought up the same thing. Personally, I've never seen that animatronic on my ridethroughs so this was a case of mistaken park-denity. It doesn't help that LMG also agreed that half the time, that Rabbit never showed up lol
      - SO THAT'S THE REASON!!! I never imagined it was Brer Frog himself. I thought it had to do with the gator.
      - Yeah, someone else pointed that out to me too so I was happily surprised about that. I wasn't sure about Br'er Buzzard since I know there was only one Buzzard so I thought it wouldn't be that big of a deal if I went past that detail.
      - Oh my God, of course there was a silhouette lol Why is it that my visits were always CURSED?!
      - Ahhhh, that explains that detail. I had a hunch he was from the stories but didn't see him at the time.
      - That's a really cool reference. Shame they changed it though!
      - I know, right?! That set piece is so eerie in the best way. Kinda like the Evil Queen figure that would stare into the dwarves' house on Snow White's Mine Train and you only had a second to catch that detail.
      - .................................That is so messed up but so God damn cool.
      - I'm revoking Walt Disney World's trophy.
      - REALLY?! I feel rather silly about that. I got the dates mixed up. That be my b. Also, that is completely fair. I was more of a fan of the vibrancy of everything, but no fault to a fellow WDW rider.
      - Yeahhhhh, I was tempted to poke at that but at the same time, I didn't want people to get the wrong idea. I did notice that "Save Splash" petition too but personally felt it didn't mesh too well with what I was going for on the "Potential Path to Splash's Closure". In hindsight, I could have put that petition in the segment where I talk how much Splash meant to people. But at the same time, if/when I look at Tiana's, depending on that experience, well....I might have a very good chance to bring it up.
I really appreciate all the feedback! In essence, go OG Splash. And Goddddd damn it, WDW. Why must you break the things I love...like my Betty the Yeti on Expedition Everest.

So I'm a big Song of the South and Splash fan/historian, and i think that you did a pretty good job.
However when you were talking about the people who were talking about the movie set in the reconstruction era, you used a UA-camr (Dreamsounds) as an example who is highly biased and does not like Splash or SOTS, and i was confused on how she made it in.
I also think there were other POVs out there for both DL and WDW Splash in not only much better shape, but also with all effects and animatronics working like the Mist for the last drop, and Br'er Rabbit actually being present and taunting Br'er Fox at the Dollar a Minute scene in WDW.
Beside those 2 critiques I think you did alright with you video and i can tell you did do most of your research.

    • @TrevorTiger
      @TrevorTiger  4 місяці тому +4

Hey Chuck. Thank you very much for the feedback! It means a lot. So with the UA-camr POVs, I was going for the angle of “Content Creator says this about Song of the South’s Time Period”, regardless of bias. Simply because this person with influence said this…regardless of accuracy. I was baffled watching that and other reviews too.
I believe you in terms of better POVs for Splash Mountain. There were a lot but a couple, like DLP, had footage that matched my past experiences so that’s why I used them. I think out of the ones, 4K and TPM had the best footage. But yeah, if there were better ones with more shots, I most likely didn’t see them due to UA-cam’s search results/algorithm. Thanks again, Chuck! I’m glad you enjoyed the video.

Very good video. I was always wondering where the claim that Song of the South took place during the Reconstruction Era, could never find the information myself no matter how hard I looked for it. Also wanted to point out a few things you brought up about the Splash Mountain Ride Section of your video:
    - One of the more probable reasons as to why it seems random that Splash Mountain uses logs is because the ride is inspired by Log Ride in Knott's Berry Farm or should I say, Disney saw how popular the ride was and wanted one like it too.
    - There is a story that was built in the queue that flows into the ride, however, very few people actually see it because it takes a very backseat approach (Similar to rides like Pirates of the Caribbean where you travel from the present back in time to the era of Pirates) The idea is that you are listening to a story being passed down and your trip on the log is your journey through the story.
    1. In Disneyland's version there are quotes on the walls (which you correctly identified as Uncle Remus, most people don't actually catch that. Good job on that👍) that make it sound like you're hearing a story that's been passed down for generations.
    2. In WDW's version Be'er Frog, from the comfort of his home, explains the story of Br'er Rabbit to his grandchildren, and from there, you get immersed in the story he's telling. It looked like the Br'er Frog in his house effect (which you pointed out in your video) wasn't working that day. It's supposed to be a projected image of Br'er Frog as a grandfather rocking back and forth in his chair, talking to his grandchildren about the crazy tales of Splash Mountain and Br'er Rabbit. Most people miss this. Understandable given the fact that WDW's Splash Mountain never worked half the time
    3. In Tokyo Disneyland's Splash Mountain, they do basically the same thing as WDW's version, but instead of Br'er Frog, it's an Owl Animatronic and what I can only guess to be his grandchildren who are in little houses across the way. My Japanese is kinda iffy so I could only make out certain phrases of what they said
Overall, a very good video. It's very rare when I find a Disney History video that actually teaches me something new

    • @TrevorTiger
      @TrevorTiger  4 місяці тому +4

Thank you so much for the kind words! I completely missed the ideas of the logs and the queue being an intro to the stories so that’s awesome to know.
      - That’s pretty cool with the owls for Tokyo. I wonder if they were aiming for the global trope where the owl is synonymous with wisdom.
      - Oh Walt Disney World. At least no two visits are ever the same for a ride that didn’t work half the time lol
Again, thanks for taking the time for watching and commenting. It means a lot.
