Don't you feel sometimes that we T de M enthusiasts were readers in France or Italy or Switzerland or Germany in past lifetimes. I feel especially comfortable in France and have always loved the Tarot de Marseille decks. My first deck was the Cary Yale Visconti of all things and years later, I bought the Besacon by Il Meneghello at an antique shop and i think my first proper Tarot de Marseille was Pablo Robledo's from the late Bob Lobis. or maybe it was the Madenie and Chosson, not sure. And then the madness began with collecting! Oh my!

@anne robinson I really do feel that, Anne!❤
I am yet to visit Switzerland, but I FOR SURE feel a very strong connection with France, but even more so Italy! I even think I have some recollection of one lifetime in Italy, so as the place I think I'm more tied to Italy (I can eat italian food every day and I'm learning Italian now too!🥰); but the lineage/ canon of Tarot to read with, it's definitely Marseille Tarot for me... hmmm... maybe I need to visit the locations where MY favourite TdM decks were initially printed in France (Lyon, Dijon, Marseille...)🙂
... I lie though.. LOL! 😂🤣...as I also love my Mantegna, I am intigued by Sola Busca and more and more I am mesmerised by Mitelli!

Hello, Mascha. Quite an impressive collection! My first TdM was the US Games CBD tarot. I must admit that I wasn't particularly impressed with the TdM style. I don't know when I got hooked! I think that after watching a few tarot tubers, I was just pulled in. I think the pip cards appealed to me first. Then, the history of TdM just pulled me in and I began seeing that lineage in a different way. I do have the JH Peterson Noblet and a few others, but no more from the collection you featured on this video. I think the artwork on the Tarot des Ambiguites is quite stunning. I love the way the line work really fills the spaces on the cards. All that detail is so rich. But, I think the creator missed an opportunity for diversity in this deck. He actually replied to my comments on this issue - I believe it was Justin's video. He suggested that I could imagine the skin colors I missed because he didn't actually paint the figures with white skin. And, of course, mentioned the history of whiteness in the TdM. But, since he created an entirely different take on the cards, I believe that he could have gone a step further and included different skin tones, abilities, etc. Anyway, I am considering creating my own deck. It's a huge undertaking. We'll see. Thank you for sharing. I love your TdM videos. Your enthusiasm is contagious.

Oh, your first TdM also was CBD? Yes, most of the people I know, who now love TdM, were not particularly attracted to the style of Marseille Tarot.
Yes, I agree the work that Alejandro did for the Tarot des Ambiguites is so creative and stunning. It is certainly my most unique TdM, which very quickly became one of the top ones for me.
It is very exciting that you are thinking to create your own deck! Please keep me posted!

It's always so lovely to see you dear Mascha 💞& to listen to you share your true passion & knowledge for Tarot de Marseille - your collection is like a decadent museum of curiosties and wonders and so much history. Loved hearing about the historic 1650 one being in the national library of France & how one card was lost / restored. Bless your heart for wanting to take that deck which you have 2 x copies of to the other side some day - love your honesty and passion for how much it means to you 🙏 The handmade one by Agnes and how she got permission to reproduce 10 copies - amazing. Although I don't collect tarot and have no Marseille decks I love history so love hearing all your knowledge. The handmade especially for you deck by Justin is such a masterpiece and special treasure for you 💞 Mmm maybe someday you may create a Mascha Marseille. Thank you for sharing your joy - Hope all is bright and have a most Beautiful Day xx

Mine is one of my working decks and sits on my desk in my deck holder that Steve made for me to hold my working decks close at hand. What a special birthday gift! Yes, Pablo said it will be ready before the Madenie, so.... I have them in my mental wishlist. I never like Tdm till I saw a Dodal in a video and the Spanish tarot colors. Then the different ways you can read the pips , something Pablo said was wry important to me. I am kot a numerology fan do it was an issue for me. But looking at the visual connection is a different level. And know I want to have more but learn more

Another excellent presentation - thank you Mascha.
Actually, there is a ‘mass-market’ (ie not hand-crafted) version of the Payen 1743 deck available. I bought an unused copy via a European auction site - sorry, I can’t remember how much I paid but almost certainly less than 25 Euros. I bought it as a TdM which I didn’t recognise - there was no reference to Payen in the auction description, nor is there on the packaging. The box has no manufacturer details at all - the the two faces show the Ace of Denies (as it is spelt on the Court cards) and the card back; the two sides show ‘Marseilles tarot cards. France, XVIII century (1743)’ in English and five other languages; the top of the tuck box has only ‘30NA1045’. There are no extra cards with the deck, although there is a slip of paper which has ‘This set of cards printed in 2004 is a reproduction of the original found in the collection of the “FOURNIER” CARDS MUSEUM IN ALVA owned by the Excma. Diputacion Foral de Alva and situated in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spain).’ in English and six other languages. The cardstock is of standard mass-market quality - my only complaint is that the corners have been rounded a little more than I’d have liked. The deck is very clearly the same one that Agnes Kappler has reproduced but, oddly, although the cards appear not to have been cleaned up, none of them suffer the faint close-set parallel horizontal lines seen in most of the Kappler cards Mascha shows.
This deck is discussed here: www.tarotforum.net/threads/jean-payen-1743.91341/
Incidentally, I also bought another deck (from the same manufacturer and via the same auction site), which I have yet to identify. It is considerably smaller than the Payen (and most ‘standard’ TdM decks) and is Italian in origin - the box faces show the Ace of Danari (as spelt on the Court cards) and the card back, which features a winged Fool, standing/running atop a globe, while beating a tambour with a fools-head-on-a-stick. Beneath the globe is the word ‘Milano’. This is not the same fool as on the ‘Il Matto’ card, which is a more traditional Fool. There is no writing at all on the 2 di Danari, and the 2 di Coppe bears only ‘Fabbrica di Milano’. III L’Imperatrice has ‘Tarocco Fino’ above the card’s title. The top of the box shows ‘30NA1049’. The sides show, in six languages, ‘Venetian tarot cards. Italy, XVIII century’, which is odd as Milan and Venice are hardly next-door neighbours.
Again, no extra cards but it does include exactly the same slip of paper as the Payen, stating the deck was made in 2004. The original deck was obviously of the type where the backing sheet is oversized compared to the face and is folded over and glued to the edges of the face of the card - this can clearly be seen in the reproduction.

Your love of these decks and your generosity in sharing them with us is wonderful. I like your Vintage Classic Tarot and the Jean Payen, though they're all impressive! I'm probably a heretic in liking some of the more contemporary Marseilles style decks like Le Tarot Noir, La Corte dei Tarocci, and Le Tarot de Gulliver. But my Jacques Vieville by Artisan and Perrin Tarot from Berti are also favorites. 💜

Your Perrin! I want it! But I think I will hold onto the impulse to purchase it until I'm in Italy and hopefully get to met Giordano Berti and get it directly from his hands. 🥰

Hello dear Anne! Thank you for watching!
Regarding to your question about the Madenie, - a bit of both, I'd say. The cards are a little warmer/creamier than the second edition, which you have. But then I was filming the video in the evening with my main lights on, so that probably added a little more to the "creaminess" of the backgrounds of Pierre Madenie.
