Turning difficult passages into an exercise is such a great. I’m learning Da Tempeste from Guilio Cesare by Handel and my singing teacher has incorporated some of the more difficult runs into my warm up.
I feel like it’s really the only way to do it! And it’s great that your teacher does it too! So so important!
It’s amazing how you irradiate so much happiness! ♥️
Thank you! That's so nice to hear! ❤️
Yay! School!
😊
I've been watching you for quite a while now and I just love your channel. Could you do a video for those, who want to start learning to sing? I am a 17-years-old male and have never studied singing before, but I've always wanted to be trained classically. I don't think I will be able to take lessons until I'm 20/21. What do I do, where do I begin? I'd really appreciate some help. :)
Great suggestion! I'll work on this and see how I can make it. I would always start by listening to a lot of music.
@@VivsGreen Thanks! I do listen to a lot of music and I also have a background in music. I play the viola. Anyway, good luck!
Hello, Your videos are very educational and you are so much FUN!
Thank you 🤗! so glad they tick both of those boxes! 😊
It’s so nice to see your excitement of getting back to singing/practicing!! You have such a beautiful voice!!! Love this vlog!! Brava✨❤️🎶
Thank you!!! Yeah I can’t even explain what the impact of ‘silence’ was like for my mental health! I feel so much more myself now! So glad you loved it ❤️❤️❤️❤️ that really warms my heart!
Avi Green I can completely relate to this feeling of “silence”... so strange!!
Toi toi toi with your recital!! You’ve got it!!❤️
Yeah, it's been really hard but it's so nice to get back to normal! Thank you 5 weeks to go! ❤️
I can't get over these practice rooms
haha!!! they are very old and some are concert halls and not practice rooms but due to covid are now converted into practice rooms for lessons, so we can be as safe as possible and not spread the virus. :)
These practice rooms are EVERYTHING OMG! I don’t use the unes at my college because they don clean them and last time I went I got sick 🤣
OH NO!!! yeah they really need to clean those rooms! but yes the academy practice rooms are insane. At least the ones in the old building. :)
That fach thing is so true! I was always told I'm a mezzo back in high school (and got shortlisted for a scholarship for Alto at a uni I didn't end up going). So I grew to love Carmen, Dalila etc. I started working with a new teacher a few months ago and she told me I'm a soprano so now I'm still adjusting to this new reality. (Still bitter I won't be able to sing Carmen) Violetta is my new bae but her arias are difficult as hell. Really wish to go to conservatory to study singing after I get my MA in "an actual degree" in 2 years but fear I'd be too old
Yes! exactly! find the juicy roles. There are so many amazing Soprano roles!
You won't be too old! I can promise you that! especially with everything that is happening now. What are you getting an MA in?
Also there are so many singers who went to get ''actual degrees'' and have some amazing careers. That doesn't mean anything! I only started my bachelors when I was 23 which has meant I've been older the most of the people who are master students while I've been a bachelor it means nothing...
This misdiagnosing voice types seems to be really common...(which is not comforting) I was told by an experienced professional that I was a high baritone. Ever the tenor, I asked him "Well, won't I ever be able to sing tenor...?" (He had known me for 2 years by that time, so it's not as if he didn't still have a clear idea of how I sounded). He said "Well, your voice is very dark, molto scuro. In musical theatre, you can sing tenor, but in opera you will sing high baritone, maybe if you work on your top and your technique really hard, you can sing the Heldentenor repertoire." This was really distressing for me as I had always thought of myself as a tenor (and a brighter sounding one at that). A year later I started taking private lessons with my current teacher (because he still has an active career so he's not teaching universtities anytime soon and I'm and engineering major anyway) and he immediately told me that I was "a typical tenor". Basically on our very first encounter he had me do vocalizes and said my range and timbre were pretty consistent with standard tenor. A few months later he confirmed that I was a lyric tenor. So I went from potentially singing Figaro (Rossini) and maybe Tristan to Nemorino and Duca. It's a weird world out there.
Yeah! the diagnosing of voice types is not great. So many teacher are quick to judge and don't have enough knowledge about what different voice type characteristics are and go mostly on sound. It can be really dangers when it comes to choosing repertoire.
I think the most important thing is to just go with your gut and ask around and see what the answers are and what feels good in your voice.
You definitely won't be too old! I just started opera last year and now I'm 33 and hearing amazing feedback as a high soprano. Anything can happen, stay open about the possibilities!
@@VivsGreen You're absolutely right. I'm so glad I met my current teacher... Even after he diagnosed me as a tenor, we spent a whole year just working on my 'baritone voice' because in his words "no tenor becomes a tenor before becoming a baritone". What he meant by that was my low and middle notes from C to F above middle C (C4 obviously lol). I didn't sing above the staff for a whole year. In fact, even when I did, it was sort of by accident. I was to sing 'Dicitencello Vuje' at a concert, however, our accompanist became ill and had to cancel on us. So, my teacher called a friend from the opera to come help us out. I gave her my score and she just looked at me and said "I am not going to try and sightread that many flats, I'm just going to play this from memory basically" (obviously she'd played it in C minor for lots of other people, mine was in Bflat minor). So now, the high note was a G and not an F natural. I think I uploaded the video here on youtube but luckily for me, that concert actually went pretty ok. Anyway, even after that, it's only been mere months that I have been studying and exploring the high voice.
I can help you with the German but I think you already have someone to help you. Love that you practice in the horn room but where do the horn players practice? :D
Thank you for the offer, and yes called my friend yesterday :)!
It's the room I was allocated by the school to practice. I didn't choose it. but it's a nice big room and really fun to sing in.
I love your videos! So you got accepted into a music school?
Yes I did! Almost two years ago I was accepted to the Royal Academy of Music. I'm coming up onto my graduation now.. 😊
@@VivsGreen ohhh, I'm late!! Lol congrats on your graduation!
@@January1487 hahaha!!! No worries!! but thank you!!! ❤️❤️❤️
