  • Starting a 2276cc air-cooled VW beetle in the morning during winter is definitely not the easiest (or fastest) process ever... 😂🤷‍♀️ But she eventually fired up and made it to the last Pomona Swap Meet 2023! It was a great show and I was grateful to not only make it there in the Dust Buggy, but also make it home safely after a full day of fun. I also replaced the fuel gauge I had just put in because I didn't like the one I had installed previously and it didn't work as intended anyways. I had a lot of fun making this video, working on the bug isn't as intimidating if you take things one step at a time and tackle the little stuff first to get more confident overall 😉

    I smiled the whole video. So great to see you working on Dust buggy. If you ever get a real crimp tool you will never look back. The new ones are even color coded. Stupid simple and work great.

    Awesome vid; my wife loved it. Pot that fuel pump on a rubber block from and old cut off piece of rubber tire; making sure you run two, not one grounds to each of the mounting holes on the pump to the body of the Dust Buggy. It will quieten that pump noise.

    Nothin better then being able to read the vitals! lol......glad to see you found a preferred fuel gauge at the swap meet....back when i had my '67 Baja, i never had a fuel gauge, i had a 26 gal. alum. fuel tank that took up the entire back seat area and a spare gas can just in case.

      The speedo cable was no longer long enough after the custom spindles Spencer built, instead he painted a face plate modeled after a speedo with the words "too fast" 😅 I'll never take that out, it's one of the best momentos from him. I do need to figure out some kind of speedo situation though

    • @jaredf5828
      @jaredf5828 10 місяців тому

      I laughed when I finally realized what the "speedo" was! That's awesome. At first, I thought it was a big tachometer.

    • @papachubby1951
      @papachubby1951 10 місяців тому

      I would never change it either. They do make gps speedometers or your phone will do that also. Looking forward to the next video. Ps my wife who was also burnt in our car accident said couldn’t wait to get out of the pressure garment.

    Thats one loud fuel pump

    • @dustbuggy
      @dustbuggy  10 місяців тому +1

      I know 😅 kind of helps if it ever goes out, I'll definitely notice lol. It's a high capacity fuel pump with a return, it's the only way Spence and I were able to get a stable amount of fuel pressure to the regulator without leaning out while driving

    NEVER EVER, NEVER EVER start a vw engine with your foot on the cluch, you'll destroy your mane bearing due to the lack of oil at the start.

    • @dustbuggy
      @dustbuggy  10 місяців тому +3

      That's good to know, I hadn't heard that one

    • @josenoway9541
      @josenoway9541 10 місяців тому

      @@dustbuggyThe "lack of oil" is normal because no engine has oil pressure if its not running. This is when most of the wear on the engine bearings happens, at startup. That said, the advice is crap, go ahead and start the engine like you always do, it will get some wear but thats normal.
