    tape 1 glowstick on the lid of the bucket as a starter light to assemble your flashlight and explore your bucket. open and snap it if necessary.

    I like this idea of using buckets. For people who aren;t "into" being a prepper its a great way to help get them prepped without scaring them into thinking they need an entire store room :) Great idea.

    Glow in the dark tape used for theater works wonders to mark areas in your home, pathways and important items so you can get to them quickly, even in power outages. It might be beneficial to preppers for those purposes. Great video as always!

    Clear, crisp, concise and very easy to understand. Outstanding job and I will be sharing this.
    You covered the bare bones basics and to answer your question of "what would I include", to be honest, an inexpensive light up collar (dog or cat), They can be found online from $5 on up and for the main purpose of being for those of us with pets, buying a few of these can be most helpful as an alternative to utilizing your chemlights for marking your location (or others), using as a bracelet/belt/clothing attachment for yourself or young ones also, as chemlights are awesome to use as markers to point in your direction of aid (using more than one to make an arrow), the collars can do that and be displayed on a wall in times of disaster to assist. The biggest boon is that they can be reused as to where chemlights are a one time deal with limited time constraints.
    Again, excellent content and I did leave an email with the address provided about linking up and possibly sharing some ideas on home/personal/family/vehicle security.
    Thanks for sharing!

    Very good video.
    I think a very good headlamp is the best solution.
    You can use it has a flashlight or a lamp if needed but you can't use the flashlight or lamp as a headlamp.
    A lot of times you gonna need your hands free to do stuff.
    With 2 headlamps you have the same battery so if one lamp fail you can use the batteries for the other.

    OCD? I call it normal! Great stuff once again. Oh, and I use colour coded SmartStore boxes. Blue for water, green for biohazard, clear for batteries and lights and comms. I like them transparent and stackable, and rectangular is the way to go for those of us with limited storage room.

    Cliff, another great video, but if I may add. Keeping the batteries in the said
    lights. I have found that using dielectric grease on the battery contact points
    helps decreases any corrosion. in turn, the light source is always at the ready.
    Change out the batteries at three year intervals and the lights should work well.
    This has worked very well in practice for me, for the past ten years. All without any
    failures. Cheers, Mate.

    I've started keeping 5-gallon buckets of water so that I can flush toilets when our water goes out. We've had numerous outages due to construction. I also keep a smaller bucket to pour water from the 5-gallon bucket and then into the toilet's reservoir. I get about two flushes per bucket, sadly we don't have the low-flow toilets. It's helped when we lose water unexpectedly.

    I was just looking for the next video in this series. Awesome timing! I love keeping my hands free while being able to see. Headlamps and lanterns rock. Love the tip for using glowstick bracelets as part of illumination. Sometimes we just need to provide the comfort of a small bright spot in an unusually darkened night. And those bracelets are pennies each.

    I know you are going for budget friendly but i would recommend a headlamp that was a little more water proof/resistant. I have used that headlamp and they don't handle rain/snow very well. I have been using a Princeton Tec FUEL at work for years attached to my hardhat and weather has never been an issue. Recently one of my local stores had them on clearance for under $15. They may not be on sale in your area now but its an item you should keep an eye out for.

    Some changes/additions to consider: a lighter to light the tea candles, UCO lantern to hold the tea candles, lithium primary batteries because they store better long term, tritium key fob used as a marker to help you find your illumination module in the dark.

    @ediecervantes8008 7 років тому

    I am sure you are going to have a "fire" module, but since you have tea lights in the illumination module, a small Bic lighter would do wonders. Can't have too many lighters! BTW I love your videos!

    recently I bought an Anker Solar panel and battery bank. I understand your average Joe would not buy one, but I like the concept of self-sustainability. maybe adding a Eton scorpion (which you can get now at Wal-Mart), a small battery bank ($5)with a USB light bulb ($5 or less), for a fourth option. I appreciate your videos. Long time subscriber.

    • @AndrewAttard78
      @AndrewAttard78 7 років тому

      TheUrbanPrepper I didn't see his. Mine is basically toilet paper, baby wipes, plasic grocery bags and some kitty litter for the bottom because the bucket doubles as a toilet so it catches any misses. I was thinking about feminine products for my wife but haven't put them in yet. I'd love to compare it to yours. Looking forward to the video.

    • @oldtimerlee8820
      @oldtimerlee8820 7 років тому +1

      Andrew we have a Luggable Loo sanitation bucket setup. Also have t-paper, cat litter, etc. Included a bottle of hand sanitizer. Prefer small & heaver trashbags to grocery bags. Too many of those split. :-( Our bucket setups include water purification. Based on the Sawyer SP-181 kit. (filter & components to use with a 5 gal bucket.) In addition to the Sawyer parts have a grease splatter screen (kitchenwares at WalMart) to cover the bucket. That's covered with a flour sack cotton towel. (Can use a white cotton t-shirt.) To act as a pre-filter to remove debris from the water. This bucket also has empty Smart water bottles with snap-top lids & a couple of the 1-liter/qt bottles for extra storage of filtered water.

    • @AndrewAttard78
      @AndrewAttard78 7 років тому

      Oldtimer Lee that's interesting that it's waste and water purification. I keep my water stuff seperate. I have those orange bags used for diapers that I should probably add to the kit. I like the grocery bags because I have so many and they were free. Now that I'm thinking about it I should add a few tall garbage bags, maybe a black contractor bag. I could also anti-diarea and laxatives in there but I have them with my first aid / medicine stuff. The hand sanitizer is a must. I have to get that.

    • @oldtimerlee8820
      @oldtimerlee8820 7 років тому

      Andrew Attard Two separate buckets. No, it's actually 3. One designed specifically for waste disposal. The Luggable Loo is a toilet seat make for a 5 gal bucket. The water filter setup uses food grade buckets & lids. One bucket for for the filter operation. Second, food grade bucket, can be used to receive filtered water, if helping to supply friends/neighbors with potable water from the creek behind our house.
      Agree with you on keeping the meds with the first aid. If you think you're going to be using your waste bucket in an urban area, where you can't easily bury the contents, agree 100% to use heavy duty trashbags. Depending on circumstances, may be better to double bag in those. I live in a rural area, an plan to bury bucket contents in the woods outback (well beyond the creek!).

  • @dutchcourage7312
    @dutchcourage7312 7 років тому

    Personally i prefer 'wind up' type flashlights, no batteries (they work on a capacitor) means they store pretty much indefinite. Have one in the house right on top of the fuse box, so when the power goes out (which tends to happen a couple of times a year, mainly due to lightning strikes, you can easily check the fuses, and there is no way to ever be without light, as there are no batteries to run empty) ...
    There are similar windup lights in 'storm/oil lantern style' for camping, some come with both winding and solar. Again, windup means no batteries needed. Also a 'storm/oil lantern style' light is also great to put on the table and still have decent lighting going on in a central location.
    Lastly, depending on your needs, i would like to point out that there are also really small chem lights (like about 1 inch, which run about 4h i think). You can get these at fishing supply stores, as they are used in bobbers specifically for night fishing.

    LEDs and button batteries. Lightest, smallest way to illuminate anything. Just tape a button coin between the 2 connections, and have hours of bright light that takes up the space of a quarter. Some people call them LED Throwies.

    Enjoying the series! One thought, maybe others have mentioned, but should your rule of 3s include (where appropriate) a hand-crank option, e.g., a hand-crank flashlight? And what about putting an extra batteries-already-inside flashlight on top in case you need the bucket well before the flashlight might expire, to speed up the usefulness of the tool?

Question...I noticed you show a Streamlight Siege Lantern in your video just after the flashlights and just before the Luci Light...although no comments on the video. I too, have the Streamlight Siege Lantern in my kit. It is NOT the rechargeable/USB capable model, which I think is ridiculously over priced, but the much less expensive, standard Siege model that is powered by 3 'D' cell batteries.
