    Andy "aTrippyFarmer" Dole is a 6th generation farmer from Central Illinois. On this farm, Andy works alongside his father, Marty, his uncles, Chris and Jeff, and his sister, Katie, to grow corn and soybeans on some of the finest dirt in the world. Andy and his family are deeply rooted in the area, operating a large farm that traces it origins back into the 1800s. Although some tracts did not stand the test of time, Andy and his family still grow corn and soybeans on fields that have been in the family for longer than even the oldest members of the farm have been alive. We do, we have, and we always will take tremendous pride in calling this piece of paradise our home. Andy was a Bronze Tablet graduate of the University of Illinois in the field of Crop Sciences, following the same path as his father and late grandfather.
    It would be misleading for Andy to claim that this life is one that came by chance; rather, as a member of two multi-generational farm families, it was simply in his blood. His passion for agriculture traces back to his early youth--some of his fondest, earliest memories being of days spent riding in the combine with his father and grandfather. Although his understanding of the lifestyle was much less complex in the beginning, the love he has for farming, and its industry has only appreciated through time. As this dream blossomed into adulthood, Andy now works relentlessly, and tirelessly, to chase his own dreams and to build a farming operation of his own alongside his family.
    We, as a whole operation, are handymen, electricians, mechanics, landscapers, accountants, economists, caretakers, stewards, and, most importantly, farmers, and we take an incredible amount of pride in our work. There is no challenge too overwhelming, no situation too stressful, and no problem too difficult for us to take on, and we want to take you along with us. Welcome to our farm and welcome to our lives. You have the best seat in the house to watch the everyday chaos of farming unfold--we usually only get concerned when things aren't going wrong!

    Andy want to say thanks. Because of your skin cancer at a young age im 55 had a spot that looked different . So got it checked sure enough it was precancerous on my cheek. For such a small spot they took a big area to make sure they got it all.

      Randy, I am happy that you got the checked, but I am sorry that you had to have something removed. The sun sure seems to be our best friend and worst enemy. Stay safe!

    As a semi driver, I spend a day in Kansas sitting in a huge tractor pulling a field cultivator. That was a memorable day.

    Always fun to watch your uploads early in planting, and late in harvest... because you have more time for drone footage! That's a bit of icing on the cake 👍👍

    Quick Question - I may have missed it in the video, but what are the advantages to planting earlier? More grow time and higher yields?

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer  5 місяців тому +1

      Soybeans grow based on day length. If planting gets delayed until May/June because of rain, there is no way to recoup lost vegetative growth potential because they will begging reproduction and death at the same relative time. There is probably no advantage against April planted soybeans. You are gambling on the opportunity to plant. If it is wet in April, March might've been your only chance against hitting that high-yielding "early" window. Corn grows based on accumulated heat units, so the best planting date can be a crapshoot every year. May corn can sometimes do better than April. There normally isn't anything to be gained by gambling on super early corn planting because it doesn't consider day length when maturing.

    Beautiful looking dog we just got a new retriever pup what brand of invisible fence do you use or recommend?

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer  5 місяців тому +1

      We have the actual invisible fence brand that the local salesman has to come trench in. It works great. Our border collies have almost a 2 acre area to run that they have completely figured out within 2 days. The system wasn't cheap. I think the two collars and fence install were like $3-4000.

    Maybe I missed you explaining it, but why 20” and not 15” planter?

    • @agger838
      @agger838 5 місяців тому +2

      Cost. Not much gain. Can drive down a 20 inch row too

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer  5 місяців тому +1

      Price. We thought the 20" rows would accomplish the same goal as the 15" while reducing price, maintenance, and weight. I am almost wishing that we would've spent the money on an exactemerge, though.

    Does the investment in equipment and expense of tillage provide a sufficient financial return? Asked another way, why not no till your corn and soybeans with planters that are equipped to do so? Thanks - Doug

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer  5 місяців тому

      The soybean stubble has tracks from the NH3 application in the fall. It isn't really a good, level seedbed. The tillage does provide some drying, a lot of weed removal, and aeration. I don't know a single farmer that does no-till corn here. The least amount of tillage is a strip till system.

    the insurance is not there to make you rich but rather to take some of the "Teeth out of the bite" of the loss if you had to replant, right?

    • @aTrippyFarmer

      Only on corn, which seems to be hybrid dependent.

    • @WNYFarmer
      @WNYFarmer 5 місяців тому

      Yea same here. Going to do some population trials this year on beans. Want to see how much variation in yield (if any) from 100k to 150k. Really nice operation you have there
