  • For the fourth year in a row, the beauty of trees is being highlighted in a dazzling way, with Illumination: Tree Lights at the Morton Arboretum.
“It’s an amazing walk through our woods. All the trees are lit up in amazing shades of LED greens and purples and it’s all encouraging people to see trees in a different light,” explains Senior Public Relations Manager at the Morton Arboretum, Kelley Regan.
The one-mile walk wraps through new attractions, like the ‘Fantasy Forest’ and ‘Treemagination,’ and old favorites like ‘Ornament Hill’ and ‘Symphony Woods.’
And the thousands of bulbs are able to light up the night using minimal power.
Regan explains, “here at Illumination we use LED lights, which really only use a fraction of the power that is used by traditional twinkly lights. We’re committed to the environment. At the Morton Arboretum we’re all about trees and the future of our planet so we thought it was very important to only use LED lights.”
While the walk is beautiful, it also has a deeper meaning and mission.
“Anybody who pays attention to a tree could potentially be the person that helps create a greener world. So we’re looking to draw interest to trees. We designed this four years ago to help people see trees in a different light, literally. So if one person sees a tree in the winter and thinks ‘wow that’s really cool,’ or ‘that’s beautiful’ that’s a win for us,” said Regan.
Shining a light on the arboretum’s founding mission of creating a greener and healthier world.
Illumination is open now and runs through January 2, 2017 but the arboretum recommends buying tickets in advance at MortonArb.org, as many nights do sell out.
