- It's Sunday, May 5, 2024, and I'm in Utica, NY, about to board Amtrak 49 Lake Shore Limited for an overnight ride to Chicago. The mission: Photograph and film Canadian Pacific Railway 2816 "The Empress" arriving in the Windy City. My location of choice was Lake Forest, IL on the Canadian Pacific (Kansas City) C&M Sub, former Milwaukee Road. Also featured is the Metra ride from Chicago Union Station to Lake Forest behind an SD70MACH.
Wow!! Such an excellent adventure and documentary of this historic event. Finally catching up with it. Very impressive. Thanks for making this journey, Harrison!
Very nice!🚂🚂🚂
Thank you for inviting us along with you on your trip!!!!
Awesome video, God bless you doing that trip on your own . Not for this old man. Thanks for sharing.
Those Gary mills are amazing
Wow! What a rail adventure! Harrison you've got more nerve than I had at your age, I was quite the homebody and never would have thought about making a trip like that! My hat's off to you!
Some great action here, and 2816 was just the icing on the cake. And how quiet it was, it barely sounded like it was working hard at all! The "Empress" indeed!
Thanks so much for taking that trip! If you ever make it down this way again I owe you a burger at the Trackside Grill in Ashland!
Thanks Wayne, at this point my parents are hardly surprised when I come up with these trips 😂
@@NorthCountryTrains Well Harrison you can tell your parents for me they've done an incredible job raising you. If every young person in the country had your level of responsibility and solid common sense none of us would have any worries for the nations future.
We need to be deeply concerned with the so called leaders in this country since 2016
They are wasting away our nation.
The young people of today and the future are going to be the people who will have to clean up the mess these shitheads are passing on to them
Great catch of that CP freight
So CSX owns the ex-NYC that Amtrak runs on west of Albany, but NS owns the ex-Erie Southern Tier that hasn't had passenger service for decades, probably the last train was in 1970 when the Erie Lackawanna discontinued all long distance passenger trains except commuter trains out of Hoboken which are now NJT. Amtrak started in May 1971.
When you passed the Western Ave. yard (where you remarked upon the bicycle car), you captured a brief shot of the two remaining EMD F40C locomotives that are unique to Milwaukee Road/RTA/Metra. They are no longer in revenue service. Many Chicago area railfans hope that one of them will find its way to the Illinois Railway Museum for preservation.
Astonishingly clean windows on this late short
It was hard to find clean ones but I tried
I would have just halted in Elkhart and 💜❤️ed up that E8 and totally ignored the steamer🤣😂😆
Since seats on the steamer are taken; I’ll just grab one on one of the FP9’s
5:04 i when to the spot in December 27 and 28 of 2023.
A DO NOT HUMP w/ an auto rack😆😂🤣
