I just put on one a SR5 V6 4wd Access Cab. After pinning it a few times {and fricking shocked how loud it is...3x louder in person than any vid} I set my cruise at 70mph on highway and use to get 22 mpg on that stretch and it legit was almost 25 when I got home
If you want loud I have the same truck 2018 same engine same cab and everything it’s grey, you can take your muffler off no tune and straight pipe it down it took me an hour and it’s loud and proud!
Our 23 limited 4x4 has a tri fold cover on the bed and wimpy Michelin hwy tires with the V6. We are averaging 23.4 on the readout, city hwy mix. Tires really do make a difference. The bed cover is better than running with the tailgate down in the old days. When I put more agressive tires on my Superduty the mileage drops 1 -1 1/2 mpg. I am thinking about putting the AFE GT Momentum forced air intake on the Taco. I put one on and the Banks Pedal Monster on my Superduty and it was night and day difference. Not sure if I gained any fuel economy because now its too much fun to drive.
Great video, I'm a big fan of CAI's, and your mpg data was great. I'm averaging 15.5 as of right now. I literally just bought my 23 DC TRD offroad 2 weeks ago, No mods yet.
15.5? I'm on bp51s set to 5mm preload with full Icon leafs set to stage 1, just over 2" of lift all around, and 255 75r17 toyo open country AT3s. I Live at 8k altitude in the mountains and I average 19+
@manwithnoname734 Since this post, I've added the air intake, exhaust and I still get crap MPG. Couldn't get over 16 mpg. Sold the truck, I wasn't happy with it. Trans. was super all over the place and couldn't deal with it. Lol
I get 19+ and I live at high altitude (8k) and drive passes regularly. Try using the manual shifting, never let the transmission wonder. When getting on the HW I lock it in 3rd then shift up at about 3k rpm. As far as 26, no fking way in hell an intake will do that, I call absolute BS on that. If that's all it took to get those mpg gains toyota would've done it. Intakes on these trucks are completely pointless.
'18 TRD Sport, 3" lift and 33's...I'm happy when I see 16mpg. Had to take the air dam off to clear the tires. Probably going to be putting that back on and shaving it down soon. lol *insert crying emoji*
Lol, I have a 2020 TRD Off-road with 33’s and a 3” lift , Cbi Dakar front bumper, with Smitty-Bilt winch, Up-Top roof rack system, and an extra Leaf in my springs, with wrap around Molle panels in the bed , I’m getting between 11.5-12.5 mpg. I would love to see 16 mpg. I’m gonna do the Overland Torque Tune, and inJen intake system with AFE Throttle body spacer, the Repp coil pack and see how it does after that 😢
I m getting 24MPG on my 22 taco, if I use cruise control put to 70mph! But taco speedo has 2mph error compared to GPS speed. So you are only doing actual 68mph. I guess you can get 35mph if you do 65mph behind a semi. Lol. But on an average people drive around 75 to 80mph which drops the gas mileage to 20-21 mpg.
Well, to get the full potential of the k&n you have to get a tune on your truck. I am not sure about the s&b. The rough country doesn’t require a tune.
The tune improves the performance of the truck regardless of the CAI brand. Tacomas have a CAI factory. Not many of these after market CAIs actually improve performance. The one I know of The Injen CAI does, it has a secondary intake above the radiator. Also, a tune does not void the warranty.
@@kcd845 thanks for the reply, see the problem is i keep getting mix answers. I was told tuning will definitely void your warranty and i did read upon the magnusson act and again alot of grey areas. My truck only has 2500 miles on it but i really want to add a CAI and a dual exhaust
@@chriswarren9857 I am a licensed tuner. I have tuned numerous Tacomas which are still under warranty including my 2021 Tacoma DCLB OR. I have tuned 2023 Tacomas with the same or less mileage than yours. The dealer doesn’t know and can’t tell you’ve tuned it unless you tell them. Look into a tune, you’ll be shocked at how much better your truck performs, it’s a night and day difference. As to a CAI, definitely get one with 2 intake draws like the Injen, there are others. Hit me up if you have any questions about tuning. I’m on Tacoma World as @SH7mi
It isnt really for "temperature", its just a lot less restrictive and the amount of air it can suck in is more and faster. Hence the better throttle response and mpg
Yes I got one actually lol Clean MAF sensor with MAF sensor cleaner (or whatever) and I heard about disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes then restarting but idk. If the filter was oiled it can gunk up the MAF sensor. Also make sure the fittings are tight. If the engine starts to stutter after flooring it just pull over, turn off vehicle, turn on and go slow; it needs a running start. If all goes to plan you'll be fine, best of luck!
It has to do with tire size. The Trd off road comes with bigger tires then the sr5. I also use the cruise control religiously and the adaptive cruise control on the newer Tacoma helps with that also.
@@demetriusbrown6177 on 17:27 he says he got all stock .. however, on my sr5 I added some Mickey Thompson LT305/6OR18 with a 3 inch level(though i recommend a lift instead). It is highly recommend you re-Gear 4.88 or 5.29 depending what use you’ll be giving your pick up as well as how much weight you plan to add in mods. if upsizing Your Tires.. most likely your front Air dam should be removed if sizing past 18 tbh.
Kids got the highest MPG taco on the planet. I get 16MPG at 65MPH.
Haha, how does he do it?
I hate sponsor videos. Yall be lying bro, there is no way 27mpg on a tacoma or v6 alone. 😅

I have a 22 trd off road and I have never been able to get better than 21.
I have a ‘21 TRD OR. My mileage is the same as yours 19-21 mpg. It’s the OR package. The crawl control and other things cut into the MPG’s
the OR come without the chin skirt I think. When Iv taken them off other trucks my mpg dropped. Its for aerodynamics.
Same, i get 14-18 on a good day

Mine shows 12.1 mpg on a good day with 6” lift and 35”s
Is that the Elton John line of sun glasses? They be too big for your head IMO.
Did the system cause the check engine light to come on at all? Thanks
My check engine light never came on when I installed it. Because it re-uses factory sensors.
did it cause it to turn on ur check engine light on the dash?
Nope. No check engine light
Yo bro I just put mine on but I hear a lil pop from the intake when I’m at idle is that normal? It’s when the ac is on.
I don’t think I hear a pop
I wish somebody would actually record down the air intake temperatures from a data log

Do you have to get a tune for the rough country cold air intake once installed ?
This intake requires no tune.
I would like to see a month's record for mpg if you can.
I will keep you all up to date on mpg in the vlogs
