That 29 wins from 29 races stat is absolutely mental. Godzilla also holds the distinction of killing off Group A racing in Australia because it was so dominant and the locals hated them, so is arguably responsible for the V8 Supercar series (which I love) we have today. Quite a legacy.
Yes, the ECU was Electromotive, but the programming was heavily modified to the point it bore little resemblance to the original Nismo numbers. The engine internals were all Australian, the turbos were rebuilt differently & a lot of the oil baffling & details were different. The standard Nismo package was good for 630hp, the Australian cars made 700+ before the local governing body strangled them. It is well known in Australian racing circles that the request was made by Nismo to not sell into Japan.
I own a 1992 GTR sample, came from Japan with an Impul ECU. I was surprised to see the Impul logo on the side of this legend. It is outdated by today's standards but back 25 years ago 500 to 600 hp was nothing to laugh about. I will be upgrading the ECU as soon as I redo the RB26 but I will keep the Impul ECU in my showcase. Great car, privilege to drive. Thumbs up.
Nice. My GTR has an old school PowerFC. When I swapped out my clutch for the new Exedy multi-plate (to handle 600+hp) I saw the old clutch was an HKS! You just don't see those EVER. I'm going to polish up the housing and hang it on my wall.
You can't say if the OZ one or the calsonic is quickest till they put side to side... that would be interesting. I lived in Japan when the r32s were smashing everything. Sometimes the NSX would win. When motorsport was at it's best.. just like the OZ touring cars of the era... sierras r31 skylines Corolla fxgts or gtis... and the axis and 635ci and the Volvo in 86... golden days
***** Oh wow. Thanks for letting me know. A lot of people probably say bullshit then. I really like the R34 GTR bc it was kinda a throwback to the R32 so basically a better R32.
***** People are kinda scared to get the Skyline's bc of value and what it is. Not something to fuck up. I saw on Facebook that a guy in Canada has a Stanced, cambered Nissan Skyline R34 GTT with a LS swap
***** Those arent's even proper drift cars they built. If you want a missle use a S13 'hatch' or just leave your Silvia proper and once in a while drift it but noo.
One of these was sold recently (Fred Rogers Motorsport car number 4, the GIO privateer Bathurst entry) for over the million dollar mark. They were an absolute monster, the guy that bought it still races it in Group-A revival categories and does demo days, last one was at WTAC16. Super cool cars and for them to achieve what they did over in Australia as they changed the rules to cripple them for the 1992 season before banning them by rule change in 93 is nothing short of phenomenal.
The R32 GT-R is my favorite. The R33 GT-R is a close second. I even like the RWD only ones too. I think they were called GT-Ss or GT or something. And even though the new GT-R is a monster, there is that disconnect. Like an F-117 Stealth Fighter must feel like to fly it. Because of its shape, the only thing keeping the F-117 flying are the computers making automatic changes. And when the pilot does something with the stick, rudder pedals, and throttle, he's just asking the computers to work something out to make whatever maneuver he wants to do happen. Same sort of thing with the AWD Computer. Even with traction control turned off as much as possible, the computers still have a say on what's going on, and the driver, through inputs with the steering wheel, gas pedal, brake pedal is just asking the computers to make the car do something. Don't get me wrong, the new GT-R is amazing, but computers are just to big of a piece of the input pie now. The R32 GT-R was just so much more pure. One could get amazing lap times out of it or even drift it to their hearts content. But for outright velocity and lap times like around the 'Ring, letting the computers do their thing and the driver driving the GT-R like he was playing Gran Turismo 6 on arcade "easy" mode, and just pointing and shooting the car, it's hard to beat for a car of its price and competition. People might say, "Driving it like that takes no skill and really isn't driving," is forgetting about what the absolute maximum of what can be derived from driver and machine/computer is. Take a pro level driver who doesn't need the driver aides but still uses them, put him/her on a track and the absolute maximum of what a GT-R can give will be achieved. It's like the vehicular equivalent of what an Iron Man suit can do. Driver at 100% and machine at 100%.
Sandra Rios Yeah GTS-T, I owned one a few years ago. Fairly common in Australia, they were cheaper when I had mine though, think theyve hit that point where theyre starting to go up in price here despite the fact that there are quite a few of them around. www.carsales.com.au/cars/results?sortby=~Price&offset=0&q=%28%28Service%3D[Carsales]%26%28%28%28%28SiloType%3D[Brand%20new%20cars%20available]|SiloType%3D[Brand%20new%20cars%20in%20stock]%29|SiloType%3D[Dealer%20used%20cars]%29|SiloType%3D[Demo%20and%20near%20new%20cars]%29|SiloType%3D[Private%20seller%20cars]%29%29%26%28Make{%3D}[Nissan]{%26}%28Model{%3D}[Skyline]{%26}%28Badge{%3D}[GTS-T]{%26}Series{%3D}[R32]%29%29%29%29

Great video and awesome to see someone other than the Japanese drivers in it to tell us how it felt......disappointing that he short shifted it everywhere and didn't rev it out, sounded like he was shifting at about 6000rpm, they seem to find another lease of power past 6000 all the way to 8500rpm......maybe Nismo told him not to rev it past 6000.
Bloody fantastic car, who said japanese didn't know how to put soul in their cars? Meaden is also great, he can describe you how a car feels in few words.
N Noddy Nismo actually asked Fred Gibson not to attend the world group a events as his group a products for the r32gtr would've taken bussiness away from nismo. obviously he agreed as essentially gibson racing was sort of a Nissan works team for the Australian side of things. But yeah look under the bonnet of the gibson gtr's & anyone with half a brain would agree totally.
I bought one of these when evo did a buyer's guide which was quite a few years ago now. I think the R32 GTR is beautiful and the OE steering wheel is the best and most aesthetically pleasing I have ever seen or used.
If i'm the one who drove it....after i take it for a spin...i'll sat infront of it with my tears fallin....a legend....need to treat it with respect....

Evo. Please reach out and drive the Bathurst winning "Winfield" GTR or the "GIO" GTR's in Australia. No it did not. Group A in Australia died because the FIA killed Group A worldwide. Japan ran for a season longer than Australia and Germany.
Refreshing to see a video where the car is the focus, not the journalist. Excellent

700+ was in qualifying trim, they never ran 700 in a race. In a straight line they were still slower than Johnsons RS500's.
29 from 29. Holy crap. Love these things!

There is one Group A GTR faster than the Calsonic car...the aussie Group A Winfield GTR.
Fastest GTR's in the world , just like the Dick Johnson Sierra's in Oz .

This is probably my favourite racing car....
I'm not the biggest Skyline fan but I love it... and I would buy an R32 just to make it like this....
If I buy a Nissan R32 Nismo I want to recreate this. The modern GTR makes the car to do all the work not the actual driver.
Who the fuck are you?
So.... you two are related?
+AE86 of Mt. Akina One of them is the Japanese cousin.
Actually, the R35 is no driver's car. It sucks.
If only I had the cars in real life that I have in Gran Turismo.

The fastest Group A GTR racers were in Australia from 1990-92. Freddy Gibson Motorsport had them well and truly sorted.

Ahh love it
I bought one of these when evo did a buyer's guide which was quite a few years ago now.
I think the R32 GTR is beautiful and the OE steering wheel is the best and most aesthetically pleasing I have ever seen or used.
Around 3:23 There is a newer "skyline" sitting to the right. Must be like "Hi, grandpa nice to see you out at the track"
And the grandpa is Muten Roshi
EVO is definitly the best mag around. Despite beeing little Porsche-biased (and I'm a Ferrari-man) they're just miles ahead of everyone.
The flames, the sound... awesome!
If i'm the one who drove it....after i take it for a spin...i'll sat infront of it with my tears fallin....a legend....need to treat it with respect....
Please Santa Klaus, could I have this car for Christmas??? PLEASE, I would be a good boy...
thank you EVO, todays my bday
and this is a wonderful present...
Great stuff. Have read loads of Dickie Meadens articles in EVO and other periodicals. Tis brilliant to put a voice to the words. 👊🏼
nice video of an old school beast of a car. a legend of a car.
Great insight into driving a legend, thank you
The Beauty and The Beast in one package. Beautiful outside and a beast from inside.
I wonder why the 1994 JGTC Calsonic Nissan skyline R32 GTR (the one with the huge rear spoiler) doesn't get as much attention as this one does, i think it looks amazing
This is a Legend !
My favourite skyline ever ! Looks so cool.
thanks, evo.... for not talking during the driving sequence. great video about a great car
I think he means to say the car was so iconic, it was immortalized in a Gran Turismo game as well.
I could see why this wins all the time, 512frigginhp in 1993.
And the 4WD plus Nissan's incredible work on all Skyline GT-R Chassis makes all of that power useable!
Quality Tofu Delivery in 1990 they had 630 hp at 1260Kg.
The Australian version produced 620 hp.
love this car!!!
thanks EVO!!
This R32 GT-R Calsonic's legendary
5:05 Hilarious lol! Awsome video, awesome car. I'm jealous you had the opportunity to drive such an amazing machine.
As of 09/27/23, I'm playing GT2 (reliving childhood memories) and I was using Calsonic, Skyline GT-R. I got curious how the car looked in real life and here I'm.
That is why I love nissan
I’ve seen this car live I was right in pit lane amazing car absolutely gorgeous sounding I believe its the greatest touring car ever
Not taking away from that, but Chris just has this way of expressing the feelings of the cars he reviews
The gear shifting was amazing. It looked as fast as shifting with pads in a Ferrari 458.
gibson motorsport got one of these and pretty much upgraded everything to the next level. they had to make them last a 1000km race. even the turbos had to have braces due to the manifold getting so boiling hot the turbos would sag. kinda funny when you get banned for being too good at something.
Downshifts sounded so amazing

This is my favourite Skyline :D
That amazing Rb26 sounds even better straight out of the downpipes!
absolutely amazing
That car singlehandedly sparked the Skyline craze outside Japan. Weird to think about.
The nickname "Godzilla" can't be more appropiate for this car. It's a god's creation. Well done Nissan.
10/10 would watch again
ahhhh. silly me. it was like 1 am haha. couldnt stop watching these vids. i miss my old r32 :(
The Calsonic Skyline has always been my official GT500 Championship race car. 💙🌟
Such a landmark automobile. Its unbelievable how nissan was on the brink of bankruptcy in 1999 after building some of their best cars in the 90s.
R32 Skyline. Best car ever made by mankind. There will never be something like it again. It was the best of its time, and still is one of the best cars. For me its the best!
You can tell that this thing is some serious shit just by looking at it
Dogbox means that it is a purpose built gearbox where in order to have sustain high hp and strain of the mighty awd system. They've beef up the components and no syncros. Meaning you have to be very precise with ur shift (more effort needed)and must double clutch before you downshift.

Adahy Lewis but is it the Calsonic GT-R? Nope, well then
Gran Turismo sport just added the R32. There has been no GT game without the R32

Awesome sound. Thanks.
Yes! A Skyline was always the first car I bought once I built up a decent amount of credit. Then I'd tune it like crazy.
Awesome. Dickie is a lucky man.
Great to drive a race car on the road,EVO is the best.
WOW, this car is AMAZING!!
This deserves to be a longer video!
Speaking of Gran Turismo,
It's my favorite car in the game.
Anyone else who likes it?
Me! Also Penzoil
It does though. Not that the current GT-R doesn't look menacing, this is just so much cooler.
Great work guys. Have recently collected some historic JGTC racing parts. One of two diff coolers made its way on the Silvia hahaha
The rear wheels also turn slightly to assist in steering, its only like a degree turn however
Love the axle shaft bellow as shifter gater.
wow evo just wow
Superb, tech advances since has'nt made the racing any better.
Loved group A!
Love the RAW "RB" Sound
That sound...
Many Nissan sports and GT cars of the late 80s/early 90s (300ZX and Skylines being the main ones) pioneered their "[Super] HICAS" four-wheel-steer system. The R32 still looks amazing
Awesome documentary on the R32. 29/29
That front wheel fitment though!
And snobs still argue that the GtrR35 has no past racing heritage.....
They are idiots
R35 doesn't, it ain't no Skyline
One of my favourites
the sound! the SOUND!!
the best car ever made!!!
good old rb26 will never let you down
From the way she looks sound and feel the r32 gtr is tuned to the max you can tell how that car took those corners
