I'm a car painter at a bmw dealer, and this made me very, very happy! Excellent job on the paintwork! Small tip, spray your visor with clear laquer, when it fully cures and gets overspray on it, you can just clean it with thinner, like you could on any laquered surface. Worked for me for years, and didn't need to buy the replacement protectors
Maybe one tip for you: Parts like the oil sump or anything related to oil shouldn't be sandblasted as you never get the particles washed away afterwards. And if these particles find their way into for example the main bearings, that would be BAD. BUT you can soda-blast them and afterward just wash the soda away with water :)
You're absolutely killing it man. I can tell how much more effort was put into the documentation of this video! It's not easy to film such repetitive work like this so thoroughly. Keep it coming dude, OG subscriber since day 1!!
Please don't forget to disassemble the oil pump and check valve it is inside the control housing (lower timing cover) it will be full of blasting media and will most likely need replacement anyway.
I can't remember which, but there is another UA-cam restoration channel that media blasted their sump, and the grit (even after washing) destroyed the bearings in days.
10:15 did you blast the front block cover with the oil pump assembled? If so the grit trapped in the pump will destroy your engine if you don't clean it out.
Little trick I learned when dealing with burnt on or just generally with dirt mixed oily residue is to use heat! A little Propane torch and a screwdriver will get you a long way without blasting so much dust around your shop!
TIP: instead of paying silly money for the quartz silicone remover... Just get 5L of clear methylated spirits and mix its 1:1 with water.. This is essentially Prepsol (panel solvent based cleaner), used before spraying... :) Ive used it for many years.. Never get silicone fish eyes in my paint work
Really nice, thorough work. I also appreciate the fact that the chap is wearing PPE. The Chinese fellas would have done it without any PPE, in shorts and flip-flops 😮
Just beautiful. Your painstaking and meticulous work really pays benefits. The laying out of the parts on shelving is such a good idea, very methodical. 👍😊
It's pleasant to watch and follow for many reasons. Because I'm interested about your work, because I want to relax, because I want to learn. Thank you very much, as usual.
I admire Your patience and precision doing all those projects, keep up! One thing that worries me - AFAIK, You shouldn't blast sealing surfaces... Correct me if I'm wrong.
Such satisfaction to watch your videos mate... everything is getting a new life and looks better than from the factory! I am working on an old Range Rover classic from 84 that would definitely need your level of patience 😀 Great work!!
It's interesting to watch this with all the dry ice blasting videos now doing the rounds. I forgot this manual, painstaking method of cleaning gunky engines is what most of us have to rely on.
Great one as usual, very informative and inspiring as well ! It's always nice to see the path your channel has run you towards from England, to Spain to England once more. Cheers from Belgium and keep the content coming !
Great job! You know I’ve seen some folks get a wonderful finish on aluminum with vapor blast/honing cabinets. Might be something worth looking into with your restorations. Seen a few easy DIY conversions, most of the parts you probably already have since u blast anyway. Just a thought 👍
I would prefer not to use the blaster in the gasket area when it comes to the oil sump just to avoid ruining the surface. However, I am a fan! Keep up the good work!
Very nice video. Is the paint heat resistant or normal paint? Given the fact that many of these pieces are engine parts , do you think the engine temperature will affect in any way the painting that you’ve done? I look forward to do many things like you do myself and any advice will be much appreciated. Ty
Hello! I see the headset on your head everytime, I have a question, you listening to radio or do you have a playlist? If you have a playlist can you share with us? I'm a mechanic and I'm bored of the radios. ✌️✌️
Hi everyone! I see your each videos, they are very good, I like your work stile and I'm very interesting the bmw e30 m42 b18 engine, please make some videos about thise pretty engine! Thanks.
Always excited to see a new video from Restore It! So satisfying and inspiring for my own restoration (72 Datsun 240Z). Quick question : what are you using on your dremel to clean parts? I often use steel brushes, but mine have a couple minutes life expectancy...so frustrating! What ends/brands would you recommend?
So is painting the engine metal the best way to protect it? Looks phenomenal by the way. Just wondering what has the best protection. Like powder coating, anodizing, electroplating, etc.
Will the filler work on the water pipes, as they heat sycle a lot? Maybe it is better to replace those. They are rosting because they wont seal and they won't seal because they are rosted?
You need a hot tank so you dont have to do as much work and make things faster. Im sure youll be able to find a sponsor or even find a used one for a good price. I know i like to get deals on things i buy im sure you do to
I get why you painted it as you explained but OEM is raw metal , what options do we have if we don't want to paint our aluminum parts to restore to factory finish? Very nice work, I'd eat off it
Do you have any tips for replacing a IAC valve ? I recently replaced the idle air control valve on my 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS , but now it tends to idle at 2k rpm, when I step on the accelerator and let go, it doesn’t slow down or drop rpm, it stays the same and drives like an automatic car at times , it’s a stick shift
I'm wondering how much would that paint add to the total weight of the car (the previous projects and this one)? And will it be safe and normal to the painted engine parts in the high temperature when running?
With all this extra cares, how about longetivity of the finish in the long term? I ask this, because many of this parts are exposed to temperature changes over time.

and to keep the inside of your mask from fogging get clear dish soap. Rub a thin layer on let harden a bit and buff off....
M539 Restorations and Restore It videos in the same day? Count me in!
Just watched them one after another.. The only channels i am truly hyped to watch when a new video drops, haha!
same
Pretty sure Sreten is watching Restore It too
They should team up lol
I don't think The Evil Twin and Hans would like it xD
The attention to detail is incredible! I guess that’s why the channel is called “Restore It” and not “Replace It”

I just woke up, about to boot up my PC, andgrab a coffee.
Check UA-cam real quick and see a new vid from Restore It.
Today is gonna be a GOOD day
That blasting looks really therapeutic
You're absolutely killing it man. I can tell how much more effort was put into the documentation of this video! It's not easy to film such repetitive work like this so thoroughly. Keep it coming dude, OG subscriber since day 1!!

Was going to mention that, its a must.
In my M42 the pump has some bad scarring inside
I can't remember which, but there is another UA-cam restoration channel that media blasted their sump, and the grit (even after washing) destroyed the bearings in days.
Seeing the sand blast the crud off the parts never gets old.
10:15 did you blast the front block cover with the oil pump assembled? If so the grit trapped in the pump will destroy your engine if you don't clean it out.
Was just going through the comments to see if anyone else had pointed this out before commenting it myself
Little trick I learned when dealing with burnt on or just generally with dirt mixed oily residue is to use heat! A little Propane torch and a screwdriver will get you a long way without blasting so much dust around your shop!
now came the new age of dry ice pasting, I asw it in action very amazing technology 👍❄️
Watching those parts getting sand blasted was really satisfying! Keep up the good work! 👍
no one is cooler restoring cars. You are the best...
6:31 I thought you were going to light it on fire to burn off the oil! bahaha 😂
TIP: instead of paying silly money for the quartz silicone remover... Just get 5L of clear methylated spirits and mix its 1:1 with water..
This is essentially Prepsol (panel solvent based cleaner), used before spraying... :)

I'm always amazed that you remember how it all goes back together. Nice work
Really nice, thorough work. I also appreciate the fact that the chap is wearing PPE. The Chinese fellas would have done it without any PPE, in shorts and flip-flops 😮
Allways a treat watching engine builds and rust repairs from your channel mate! Keep up the good work. Cheers from Denmark.

You summed up your channel yourself this episode: "probably overkill, but i couldnt help myself."
great work, as always!
Twenty mins of pure engine pleasure! 😊👍
That media blaster was pretty impressive, can't even imagine the speed at which the CO2 blaster is gonna rip through cleaning.
I admire Your patience and precision doing all those projects, keep up! One thing that worries me - AFAIK, You shouldn't blast sealing surfaces... Correct me if I'm wrong.
Loved the episode! Especially the way you narrated and explained the process in a bit more detail!
Once again, an amazing job 👍 and a remarkable transformation 🤩. I am looking forward to watching the next episodes.
Such satisfaction to watch your videos mate... everything is getting a new life and looks better than from the factory! I am working on an old Range Rover classic from 84 that would definitely need your level of patience 😀 Great work!!

Please never ever blast a gasked surface like on the oil pan, that's a predestined leakage source
Your living my dream ma boi
Brilliant 👏 anything large sticking out ov the parts washer place a cloth over the top it .it does the job 🙂
I absolutely love your videos, thank you!
Great one as usual, very informative and inspiring as well ! It's always nice to see the path your channel has run you towards from England, to Spain to England once more. Cheers from Belgium and keep the content coming !
Great stuff! I love this style of presentation. It reminds me of your older videos.
I wish I would be able to see a video of yours, completing one single car project.
Look into cerakote as an alternative paint option - could save you lots of time, its a ceramic coating and its hard as nails.
Note: Removing sludge and baked on oil from engine parts, oven cleaner does a good job. Works on dirty Aloy wheels too to remove years of brake dust.
Great job! You know I’ve seen some folks get a wonderful finish on aluminum with vapor blast/honing cabinets. Might be something worth looking into with your restorations. Seen a few easy DIY conversions, most of the parts you probably already have since u blast anyway. Just a thought 👍
I really like your painting
Thansk for providing this episode ;)
Have you considered getting a dry ice machine instead of the grit / glass blasting, seems far less messy.
I hope you don`t mind me having a beer while you working.a Big like from me......
Top quality job/video/everything! Thank you! I want you to know we appreciate your time and effort!!
Love watching your videos. Great work and you have so much patience.
the intro reminds me of My summer car :D
I really enjoy all the videos that you post, really cool and skillful thing. I appreciate that. Cheers man 👍 💯
Waiting for the next episode. Perfect job, greetings from Brazil.
I would prefer not to use the blaster in the gasket area when it comes to the oil sump just to avoid ruining the surface. However, I am a fan! Keep up the good work!
Wow next very good work love it wait on next part 👍😍❤️👍
Great work mate.
wow you did a great job with the masking !!
Great video... Really enjoyed!!!!

My M30 needs rebuilding. Now I want to do it myself
love the results, perfect work as usual 👍🏻
I love watching this. :D Nice work!
Find yourself a decent vapour blaster guy, brings ally up like new
It's time to buy an ultrasonic bath ))
That's impressive, you could eat off that engine! Nice work as always
You should get yourself a dry ice blaster
Man I bet you wished you had one of those enormous ultrasonic cleaners like Rectidama has.
If only!
Remove and clean Oil pump.. Please..
Maravilloso!!!
Gracias por hacer videos así y felicidades por un trabajo tan espectacular.
Hello! I see the headset on your head everytime, I have a question, you listening to radio or do you have a playlist? If you have a playlist can you share with us? I'm a mechanic and I'm bored of the radios. ✌️✌️
Have you tried using dry ice cleaning? Might save a lot of time.

Awesome work mate. Keep it up
Goood luck I'm waiting for more videos 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Use plastic screpers to remove old gascets not to damage the metal
You could just Soda Blast the Aluminium Parts and they would look as new. Saves a Lot of Time.
Brilliant! Are most of these parts painted from the factory? Are aluminium parts only painted for corrosion protection? Forgive my ignorance!
Back to the bread and butter work.
What grit did you use in the blaster?
Will the filler work on the water pipes, as they heat sycle a lot? Maybe it is better to replace those. They are rosting because they wont seal and they won't seal because they are rosted?

Nice job budd!!😎♥🤙👌❤👍 keep up the great work looking good.
Me: No way he can restore this
Restore It: Hold my tools
question : How was the new paintbooth? and comment: Still haven't got around to fix that bench grinder in place!
I saw someone mix degreaser with powder detergent and leave it 24 hrs then pressure wash.. it came out like new..
Aren't you meant to remove old gaskets with a plastic blade? To prevent the metal blade potentially damaging the gasket surface finish?
Could u do the video @ normal speed, its hard to learn going that fast. Love rhis series.

Great video mate 👍
Wouldn’t having those parts vapor blasted been more efficient?
With all this extra cares, how about longetivity of the finish in the long term? I ask this, because many of this parts are exposed to temperature changes over time.
my m40b16 has the same tick, prob needs the same restoration ;(
Very nice!
It's amazing 💖
DO you know Dry Ice Blasting? Do you consider using it?
Hola para cuando el armado del motor m40 😎😉
Travajo perfecto,como siempre 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Nice
Thanks!
Could you give us the model of the Clarke blaster gun or a link to a seller? Please?
