And in that time my thoughts on tablets has been totally shattered.
So why is that?

2:30 to open face unlock with keyboard case, go to : setting - biometrics and security - face recognition - turn off "stay on lock screen until swipe" - after that click "add alternative appearance to enhance recognition" . If you're wearing glasses, wear them first. Then just follow the step after that.
Try it with lock screen and close the keyboard, then open it again. It works on my tab. Hope this will help you too.
Also, the S Pen doesn't need to be charged to write and work as a regular stylus. The only purpose for charging it is to use the bluetooth air gesture function thingy. So if you're someone who primarily just uses it for taking down notes or drawing, you never have to worry about having to wait for it to charge.
oh thanks I actually didn’t know that
Thanks!
I think both the iPad and the tab s8 will be relevant for about the same amount of time even if the tab gets 4-5 years support and the iPad gets 6-7. Android versions don't become as irrelevant as quickly as iPad /iOS versions. Android seems to retain support for mainstream apps for years after the release of a particular version of android where as once and IOS / iPad OS version becomes one year out of date you start to lose app support like crazy.
So true! I think he doesn't know this because he has no experience with other Android tablets. I have an old Lenovo tablet on Android 5 and it can run the vast majority of apps. Instead, IOS 9 and even IOS 10 are a disaster in terms of app compatibility. Even youtube does not run anymore. And Android 5 is older than IOS 9.....
@@_Digitalguy My buddy's 2018 Honda Accord infotainment system runs android 4.2 and with honda hack you can still run most everything on it too
True apple lose support for more app running older os same app i checked in Android was supported with thier older os.
The main point of update is to provide new features, but the fact that people don't understand is that, one version of android updates easily contains more new features that apple provides in an life time of their products. What's the point of updating every year if you get nothing new...
Main feature of ios 14- widgets (available in android for 10+ years), ocr in gallery(any android can do that with google photos app with 8+years), main feature of ipad os- multitask(available in android since marshmello -split screen),,,,i guess i have nothing more to say...
@@im_not_sarcastic yes. Also elements of android get updated through Google play services so you get new features without needing a full OS upgrade. The thing that really annoys me about apple is like you said them introducing features that android has had for ages as new revolutionary features. The best I've heard apple say is we weren't the first to do this but we are the ones who did it right. When in reality google did it right from the start.
The tab S8 is a great buy for students, busy bodies, mobile on the go people, etc especially with other Samsung devices. It works great for the phone, Google messages, using the same pair of earbuds with another device. I've been using mine for Samsung Notes, editing video with KineMaster, UA-cam in 4k, etc. The integration for Samsung Notes is really awesome especially on WiFi it updates and tells you when you're on the S8. For students this is awesome as you don't have to worry about syncing all of time. Don't have a keyboard so can't comment on that but the s pen is awesome. 👍
It’s not a great but compared to iPad since iPad has notability, good notes , procreate and other 3rd party apps for note taking
@@lightningbolt4126 lmao, bro's talking as if you can't download and install apps on android. go touch some grass
I have my Samsung S8 (the phone) for ages (~5 years) and it still works so well. The battery lasts half day, the water resistance is still good as I dropped to the bathtub many times lol. I decided to purchase the Tab S8 thanks to your review.
Get the battery replaced, I paid $70 to get it done
you must be lying my s8 was unusable after this time
@@noahbuddy1 I have an S9+ and I can vouch for Pearl. The battery still goes for a good while. Hell I still have an S4 laying around that I like to mess around with and it stills going to this day lol
@Noah Joshua Bergheimer I still have mine and work pretty well
@@TacticalLeo second this, I have the base cracked S9 blue and I still use "minimalistically" it whenever I go out because of the terrible battery life when mobile data is on but it can still last a day or two if I only use sms and calling. Great partner to my Tab S7Fe tbh.
8:40 The Tab S8 definitely gives off netbook vibes. I loved my 10" netbook c.2009 and the Tab S8 feels similar but with widescreen. I've had mine for 2 days and I'm so pleased with the size, features and S Pen (more than I expected). DeX + the Book Cover Keyboard is a game changer, way ahead of the iPad!
Was curious, can it be used as a laptop for adobe and Microsoft apps?
@@FunKaYxxD1sCO Yes, DeX is very similar to Windows experience. It's still running the Android app, but it allows to you use full keyboard and mouse, either via the Book Cover Keyboard (with trackpad), or any external devices (USB or Bluetooth). I just tried plugging a USB-C hub into the Tab, with a USB mouse receiver and it worked instantly. I plan to use my Tab S8 for business 'lite' i.e. for time when I don't want to disconnect my laptop and carry it to meeting rooms etc.
Files management, multiple apps etc. long time ago already included but when Apple add two apps in iPad , whooo haa something advance 😂😝
Hi Mitch, do you think getting the S8 Plus worth the additional price or should I get the S8 instead? My main use case is for business (presentation etc).
@@XaliberDeathlock Hi, I think it depends if you need the larger screen. I was tempted due to having the OLED display, however I was turned off by the reduced battery time and the additional size/weight. I use mine in bed, and holding it up would be more challenging.
Bought the tab s8 plus , as a student I've been entirely in android ecosystem ever since , so the idea of gettin an iPad pro or this was tough , but I chose this and it's been worth it , for my usage this tab is a monster performer , never felt a gitter in my almost 2 months of usage , and that screen and speakers combo makes it a entertainment powerhouse as well , I don't game alot , but trued genshin at high settings , it was buttery ... Plus the level of multitasking and dex support is also brillaint , now the most imp part the notes (I'm a student lol) , samsung notes are by far excellent and the multitasking capabilities make it even better as I can jot down notes and have 2-3 browsers and apps open, it doesn't break a sweat,,, the only grieve I have is from s pen , due to rubber nib it feels delicate to use , though I use it often and from where I've purchased they have promised that they will get me nibs in case these get broken but I think here apple did a better job at making it a hard tib so you get carefree with the intensity , but again if you are interested in this I can tell nibs are cheap so don't worry much
On and all , I feel this is the best tablet (s8 +) for a majority of people ,and students , I'm super happy with this purchase
I just got a tab S8 Ultra a week-ish ago and, honestly?...I've been BLOWN AWAY by it! It's SO MUCH better then I expected. People love to poo poo Android as a tablet OS and, all I have to say is, "have you used one recently?" It's a multitasking ANIMAL!! SO good. Seriously.
I've been using this tablet for 3 weeks. It's so good, but the only thing that I don't like that the screen is not OLED. The screen itself is already great but the black not really great..
Thank you for the great comparison. I'm still hanging onto my Tab S3 and love it. Looking forward to upgrading when it's time.
As someone who has an S8 plus tablet I can truly vouch for this, it's amazing I literally take my everywhere with me and use it as a display in many locations a locations and it has an oled screen which to me is way better than any of the ipad Screen. And I don't care much for a lot of raw power seeing it as I don't use it for that
The s8 does not have OLED.
On a phone this would be a deal braker...
But a tablet I'm really worried about burn in, having the status bar and the part of the screen that yt videos occupy already dimmed on my >2 yo Note 10lite... And I think it's probably worse on tablets because there are more static elements.
Also I already have a laptop so I don't need the big screen, I just need smth small for school.
@@LeoRehberg if you look up the specs it does have a OLED screen. And so does my s7+ tablet as well and I've already had the S7+ tablet since it came out and I use it everyday with alot of on screen time and brightness turned to max and no burn in at all or at least not yet but it's been over a year so far and it runs perfect. I never had any other older tables so I don't know the experience with those but as of now these new ones are really good to the point where I stopped using my iPad
@@carstech2685 the Normal Tab S8 has a TFT/LCD Display. It's not AMOLED like on the Tab S8+ and Tab S8 Ultra
@@typhoon_8086 yes that's what I have is a s8 plus , it's on my first comment
@@carstech2685 I know all of this I own a s8, but you said you can vouch for his opinion, but he has the s8 not the plus so that OLED argument is invalid in his case.
It's pretty great review, good job Gary, I'm super excited to get my own Tab S8 that supposed to came last week but obviously Samsung has some shipping problem due to the high demand on the new Tab S8 lineup
I'm fine with the software running out. I have Android 8 on my pixel c and honestly dont really know what I'm missing if anything. However if they could run security updates for 5+ years that would be a massive bonus.
as a matter of fact this LCD is top notched..i have tab s8..and s21 ultra..but the content looks amazing even it's LCD on s8. I don't regret bcz its not too big for holding on hand. super portable usable for note taking and reading pdf. at first i thought its very small for me.but when i got it on hand felt like this is the size i want a tablet.
Was going to buy ipad air 5 but now Going for tab s8 now thanks for making it clear what i need
U really make me want to purchase one , since i will be needing a tab/notebook for a 2months course i will be attending soon. Owh yeah by the way , I'm not a Tech guy , so your review really helps me to want to consider the S8 highly. Thanks !
its funny how much attention dex mode (for tablets) is getting considering it has been out for like almost 4 years. my Tab S4 which came out in 2018 had dex.
My tab S5E has dex mode, I can also use a USB type C hub, with HDMI, now turns into a full Chromebook, add your keyboard and mouse in the USB ports. Done
Thanks for this great review. I'm getting the tab s8 tomorrow so I was happy when you raved about it, especially that you're an Apple user. I myself am strickly Android (Samsung all the way).
To be honest…I have an iPhone 13 and I also have a galaxy s21. I have my sim in the iPhone (iMessage needed for work) but I have the Galaxy laying around the house on WiFi. I use both heavily. The apps on the iPhone have been been buggy lately. Even on my previous iPhone 12. Also navigation (back swipe, notification shade pull down, etc) is far better on the android. Dare I say the iPhone is actually sort of annoying to use and the Galaxy is more how I’d imagine a user interface should work. Not sure what’s going on at apple but their software design team is starting to get smug. It’s showing. Same with macOS. Mostly annoying to use when compared to windows.
Agree that back swipe and notification pull down is way more convenient on android (I also have two phones),
But strong disagree that macOS is worse than windows. Windows 11 is an absolute sh*t show.
great review! I would be interested in a 6 month follow-up...it's been about 5 years since i owned a Samsung tablet and my experience showed the tablet performance slowed considerably as the months went on. That has never happened with my apple ipads.
I have the exact opposite experience, my older iPads have been slowing down with updates, while older samsung have not because they weren't updated much to begin with and stayed just as fast as new
Its a problem with all Android devices, they slow down considerably with time. The trick is to never update them.
@@chikachika1058 that's simply false
Make sure that you keep watch on what you download, how much you download and the updates. Because android is open source, I download shit like a madman….bad idea.
@@_Digitalguy how's the battery holding up on your ipad?
I am considering getting one or the s8 andni need to use it for atleast 4 years
Ooh, have you tried using it as a second monitor on your windows laptop? From what I understand it works really well.
i did, but using duet display, not as smooth as Apple's sidecar but works okay
As a long time IOS user, Like you the S8 has become my daily device, I never thought in a million years I would ever switch to an android tablet
I've been using the s7 and now I purchased the s8. I'm a student and I never used paper ever since, because I use the tablet for all the stuff. The most amazing think Samsung dex and that I can split the screen and use two or more apps at the same time. It's also not to big like the other models and fits perfectly into your bag. It's just amazing
Is it the size comfortable for reading and writing?
@@slowgirl2699 yes it is. not small and not too big, for me it's perfect for reading and writing
Does the s8 come with a charger
@@mabbas6479 you have to buy it, they just include the cable. And the cable is on both sides usb c
@@juliaG753 thankyou for the reply. Does the s8 heat up. Considering it.
We know it will never happen as it would kill MacBook sales, but could you imagine if Apple would create a similar mode where you get full MacOS on the M1 iPads?
Honestly, I'm perfectly content with IPads not having Mac OS. I love my IPad 9 for what it is, and it's definitely better than Samsungs budget tablets
Or just give iPadOS more functions. It's not going to be MacOS, I'm fine with that. But it SHOULD do more than it currently can.
@ I've heard rumors that Apple will be working on Miniature App Windows similar to the Pop Up Windows on Samsung One UI. It will supposedly be activated when a keyboard or (possibly) a mouse is connected, and is rumored to be an "IPad Pro feature" when it's released. Hopefully the Feature will be available on all IPads in Apple Lineup
@@typhoon_8086 This, I don't get why people keep expecting a tablet to run the same OS as a laptop when they are different devices with different approaches to user interaction. It's like expecting an apple taste the same as a peach.
@@maximipe because some tablets are able to run a normal OS and there are no problems with them?
One other thing to mention is how great Samsung Notes app is.
Thanks…I enjoyed your review. I appreciate your thoughts. Blessings on your day.
Ya. I have a galaxy s3 tablet and I've had it since Christmas 2017.
It stopped getting updates around 2020. But I still use it to do homework & take notes
Maybe you need to change a few settings for the face unlock so it unlocks instantly: Settings > B"iometrics and Security" > "Face recognition" > Disable the option "Stay on lockscreen until swipe"
Hopefully this works for you...

I didn't know about Dex. That sounds awesome. Will definitely get this with a keyboard.
Should've bought the Keyboard book cover, I got mine from Amazon, £180 I think, but it has a trackpad too!
Could you put a link to the one you bought on amazon with the trackpad, thanks 🙏🏻
I just got my Tab S8 and it was great. I use it as my notebook at the meeting, as my multimedia and entertainment device, etc. And oh, Samsung Dex is remarkable. Samsung really need to make Samsung Dex as their tablet OS.
This is a great tablet had mine for two weeks, its awesome fantastic screen and feels solid and super premium👍👍
Thanks for the review, i was sold on it and ordered mine after watching your videos on the Tab s8
Buy the s7 instead. The s8 processor is like 1% faster. S7 same device, $100 cheaper.
That is what I want from Apple is a DEX competitor I know they can do it.
It wouldn’t make much sense, apple has macs. Samsung only does it cuz their computers suck n don’t sell well.
@@youngjacuzzi3676 MacOS wouldn't make sense. A desktop mode, instead, would not replace Macs since you only have mobile apps. I am positive they will do it as some point, there are even recent rumors about it, but it's rumored to be only for M1 iPads since they are the only one having enough RAM
i think samsung should also provide mini versions of thier tablets with same specifications and amoled display - it will much more helpful for travelers +++competition to ipad mini 6 ☺☺
And that would kill the foldables?
Can't wait to get my new Tab S8! Thanks for the great update on your experience with your Tab. But my question is on Dex.
Can you run 64 bit programs when on dex? Or is it just the ability to go on a monitor with a laptop type screen??
You can only run android apps and desktop sites
Back then you could even run a full blown desktop linux on dex but they scrapped that feature due to android compability issues, android 13 is going to improve virtualization so they might bring that back
Curious to see how this will cope with video editing once lumafusion is released. I'll be getting a tablet to use as a main computer while I head off traveling later in the year, likely this if editing is good on it!
if kinemaster and power director works great on android phones i dont see luma fusion cant. its just how luma optimized their app. kinemaster and powerd arent even optimized 100% but they worked great already
It will probably be good since Samsung directly partnered with lumafusion and advertised it for their tablets
I had no idea he was bald at 2:28 You should show off the dome more, I bet you'd get more subs!
I think paying the extra for 256 GB storage is a no brainer. In the UK the 256GB model is £50 more (£699 Vs £649). The system takes up storage before you've even started. So in reality for £50 you're actually MORE than doubling the available storage.
Its supports micro SD storage up to 1tb doesn't it?
@@ryanwerner6137 Sure. Internal memory is miles quicker than microSD. Apps filll up storage quickly and don't update when moved to microSD. I've had microSD cards corrupt on me. Internal ROM is far more reliable. It's only £50 for in real terms more than double the storage after considering space for the OS. If you're willing to pay £649 for a premium tablet then an extra £50 is a no brainer. I have the 256GB model and use microSD too for downloads - mainly data that's not important like Audible, TV shows, Prime, UA-cam etc so if the microSD card does corrupt it's no big deal as I can download it again. It also keeps the serious data I store on the ROM separate from the junk I use for entertainment.
I have the S8+ and I am supposed to send the S7 back tomorrow. I'm keeping it. Like both sizes. Use both every day. The tablets are just so fluid and easy too pump out the work on.
Also: Samsung listens more to the users than Apple, I had Tab s7 for 1 year now and they updates de OS like 3 times already adding new features and functions to improve the multitasking, dex, floating windows, etc. They improved everything Inhad complaints when I got the tablet, the only thing I still miss from iPads is the aspect ratio..
my tab s6 lite has so many more features and even INCREASED power thanks to updates. Literally amazing.
@@PandaOfRed368 same oneui 4.1 is much smoother than before on s6 lite
Why sould you want a worse aspect ratio?
Sir i just wanted to say i loved your video.
I think im pretty sure i am going to buy this device it is going to be my go to computer for my studies and everyday tasks.
Thank you for taking your time and creating this video.
Wishing you and your family the best ❤️
Honestly I’m an extremely casual user with a tablet cause anything more serious I just use a 2 in 1 and I think for people like me to look at the Samsung galaxy tab A8 I think it’s perfect
Just note that the Tab A line doesnt have Samsung Dex. Only the S line does. If you need a budget tablet and still want Dex, go for the Tab S6 Lite, Tab S7 FE, or the Tab S7.
Thank you for another great detailed video. Your perspective is greatly appreciated.
My last Samsung tablet was a nexus 10. Now I ordered a s8 ultra tablet and I'm thinking it will mean I won't need a new phone for 4 years. The tablet should have me covered for light mobile work and entertainment
Offering iPad in 64 GB is the kind of mind game I hate.
Bought that black stand & I can't believe how good it is for the price, paid £6.99 worth every penny 👍
I loved my netbook too. Good small form fit in my bag, ready to go.
I heard that Samsung is providing; 5 years of security updates. Correct me if I'm wrong
Wow!!! No Charger included. I can't get over that, so say you go buy it at BB and they don't have a charger or the right wattage of charger. And then you will have to go 3rd party and order one, and wait. In the mean time you have to either hook it up to your computer, or a power bank via USB, or use a spare one you might have ☹️
Please review the Tab S8 Plus.
I have had my Samsung m31 for 4 years now, dropped it wayyyy too many times and still it works so I'm hoping a lot when I do get a new phone or tab.
You’re enticing me to ditch my old iPad Pro 9.7”. Yes it’s that old! 😉 That said, how do you sync with your Apple products?
i have ipad air gen 1
I own the first Ipad Air and, because I can't update to the latest OS, I can't use many of the apps because they work only with latest OS. On Android, even though my Android version will be old, I will still be able to run all the apps.
Exactly. Apple fools its customers. Latest updates don't have all the features. Look what it did with the stage manager.
I used to watch UA-cam on my ipad mini 1. That is not possible anymore as apple disabled it.
Updates aren't always good.
You can absolutely text from the tablet. Settings > Advanced Features > Call and Text on other devi es.
god your video is so entertaining, been thinking of getting one for school. a bit too late huh
I think they do that to the messaging so you will buy the apple product. And not the android.
Tab s8 is just about the right one for me (price and performance). I only use it for music and video so any higher specs than that would just be something of a waste that I would never utilize. I would never use a tablet for productivity and high multi tasking activities since a laptop is still the best for it.
I've been an android user basically from the start. Always had the flagship Samsung phones and then wanted a tablet, I ended up getting the galaxy z fold 3 & it's amazing, can't go back to a normal phone now. Never had a tablet but after using my phone I'm looking to get a tablet now as I do a lot emails & Microsoft word documents.
I use Samsung dex regularly but its not optimum just using a phone, can see so many benefits with the tablet.
Update I got the Tab S8+ can't fault it
Great video! Would you still recommend it? I'm on the fence about getting one (either the S8 or S8+) leaning towards the 8 because of portability. Do you happen to know if the the 8 will get Lumafusion when it finally releases?
What did u get ? I'm in the same bout as you , I'm not sure what to get too
@@verrawar7906 I ended up getting the S8. It is a great size and the screen looks great on it.
Something like Dex (Pro Mode? 🤔) on an iPad would be so cool. I often have to carry around my MacBook just because something might pop up that I need to cover for work that the iPad can’t (properly) do due to software limitations - although it has more power than my i5 MacBook.
Unless Apples loses its shares in the laptop market, it will not happen unfortunately. It will cannibalize its laptop market..
I would upgrade from the base model! The OS takes up 32GB of ROM before you've started. So by going for the 256GB model you are MORE than doubling the usable RAM. In the UK the base model is £649 and 256GB model £699. If you're willing to pay £649 for a tablet then £50 is nothing. And the extra storage is nowhere near as expensive as Apple's.
Your thumbnail game is off the flippin‘ charts 🤩
disable stay on lockscreen untill swipe in biometrics. and delete your facial recognition and set it up again
The fact u gotta do all that is lame. Lol but that’s Samsung.
@@youngjacuzzi3676 no it kinda isn't cuz sometimes it might get unlocked when u don't want it to so you can select if it should unlock
Wow look how dim that screen is relative to the iPad Pro tho.
Why can't you just get texts in your phone....don't need to on tablet
Great content! 👍
I recently got the S8 (the smallest one). I like it, but what i don't like about it is, there is no Galaxy Themes (don't like Goodlock), no resolution options and so far I haven't found how to move the brightness bar, so that it is above those buttons when you swipe from the top.
end of software update is not the end of the world. all this tech utubers behave such a way that a device becomes useless or trash if it stops getting software updates. many ppl r still using galaxy s3,s4 wich runs on 8 years older Android version & they still run fine
If Samsung software ends you still can use it without any issues except update but if the software update of Iphone ends you've need to worry cause every app you use will not be available.
Very amazing review 👏
I honestly think that Samsung's tablets are on another level compared to every other Android tablet out there thanks to Dex. It's Google who should step up with Android because Samsung can only do so much.
Honestly I have both operating systems from Apple and Samsung. I went back to Galaxy watch 4 and S23, Android is just smoother for day to day but I wont trade in my I Pad Pro for a G Tab. Apples Ipad is a powerhouse and updates go further. Thanks
Hoping Apple Made some DEX stuff on iPadOS…. Hope
This was really helpful. I'm about to enter to a univercity in couple of months. I think tab S8 will be enough for my work in their. Not using for games, just need to multi task apps. So should I buy this or go for S9? S9 has a better chipset but that is way over my budget.
Considering the lower tier tablets upgraded to more ram/storage is 400 or 500 this is a solid deal. It looks stunning, my A7 2020 model looks a decade old in comparison.
I'm gonna be using this to draw, but I don't wanna scratch the screen with my heavy hand, what type of screen protector is recommended?
A drawing / paper screen protector
In fact, you can have official smart keyboard for S8 with trackpad, just like iPad's magic keyboard, with much less price.
Bought my galaxy tab s7 last july time operating it not more then 2 days.. Now its job is accumulating dusk...
Ok, finally the video which doesn't have that apple sided bias
Do you mind sharing this wallpaper you used for the thumbnail? It looks so pretty!
The ecosystem integration is lit
please suggest S6 lite tab vs s8 tab when price difference between two is 20,000/- Does S8 justify spending more onto it. Purpose is Movie watching and notes making. Does S8 tab also having palm resist feature like s6 lite. Please reply and guide
I’m a long term Samsung user in a mobile professional capacity for close to a decade. Watch, lots of paid apps, latest big phone, smart tags, tablets, laptops, TVs. I switched everything to Apple last December and while Samsung is the best integrated ecosystem next to Apple, there is still “friction” using Samsung products. Samsung products also get slower over time for reasons I don’t understand. Apple takes the edge off and just works the same all of the time. Android and Windows have lots of great features and incredible “customization,” but Samsung’s only advantage category is DEX and MAYBE google voice over Siri. People who don’t use DEX are missing the marquis feature of Samsung. But everything else is a little “hacky” and build quality just doesn’t give me a feeling that I COULD use Samsung products for many years like Apple. Great review, but I think the new will wear off the Tab S8 in ways that never come to mind with Apple products. One other great thing about Samsung is that they give unbelievable trade in deals on their tech every year.
I have a Tab S6 that's still buttery smooth. I'm debating picking up a Tab S8 but it's not amoled like the S6.
I have a tab S2 and it runs copy as hell
Tab S8 or tab s7 plus on same price which one should i buy?
For video editing and entertainment purpose.
Did you have your hat on when you initially set up face unlock? If not, that could be the problem.
I connected my Sam Tablet to Galaxy 21 Plus 5G. I can text using either phone connection or connected to the net at home or any other hotspot , Bluetooth as well.
