People tell me my place isn't big enough, not enough bathrooms, not in the right neighborhood, not the right neighbors. I am just happy not to be homeless.
It’s about what makes you happy and what fits your needs. Some ppl are too preoccupied with excess that they forget life is more than about material goods. We will all die one day and our stuff isn’t coming with us. What we experienced in our hearts and minds is what stays with us.
That poor man!!! I just wanna hug him! At seventy nine years old, you shouldn't hafta worry about where you're going to lay your head at night. Freakin ridiculous. 😒💔😒
Every day, I keep looking at these stories because they keep popping up in my feed and they are scaring me, but motivating me as well. I mean these stories have compelled me to bite the bullet and pay off my mortgage in full this year because right now, my home still belongs to the bank via my loan. At least once I pay it off, no matter what happens to me financially in the future, I’ll have a place to call my very own. And because housing is typically our biggest expense we have in our lifetime, as long as I have a home, I feel I can easily tackle anything else that comes along.
It's so nice to see at least one thoughtful comment. Thanks. And you're right. I paid off my home 18 years ago and it changed me in more ways than I had imagined. When I was paying a $2200 mortgage payment spending $150 on dinner didn't seem like much money. When the mortgage went away those $150 dinners stood out as a big expense. I started asking myself "Do I really like $150 dinners that much?" They were helping to make me fat. Didn't like that. Didn't like the huge amount of time eating out takes. Could the $8k/yr dinners be used for other things I'd enjoy more? You betcha. Dinners were forgotten in hours, adventures lasted. Whole bunch of things like that. Mortgage money is cheap right now so paying off a mortgage doesn't make a lot of financial sense. But it did for me. I hate investing, suck at it. So I doubt I could have put the money to better use. Big stress reducer too. Markets go up, down, I don't much care.
I payed off my mortgage in 2019 and I found nearly 3 grand a month to save and been saving every dime of it and keeping my debt low no credit card debt and no car payment just saving as much money as I can
Exactly! 💯💯💯 I think everyone should be focusing on buying a home, a condo, whatever you can afford and pay it off as fast as you can. Having a paid off house gives you peace of mind. Having a paid off home is more important than having a child. Why would you want to bring a child into the world when you don't even own your own home? That's just asking for financial problems.
Yes pay your mortgage off if you can! The biggest mistake I ever made was not purchasing my little rundown condo in Jupiter 10 years ago. Now that same unit has quadrupled in value and I am paying more in rent in a run down shack in Lake Park that it’s just been sold to Wharton realty group. They are giving us 15 days to come up with $4500. Doubling my rent. 🤮
@@HH-gv8mx wow that’s crazy! I know how you feel because I let a good deal slip through my hands in 2008 that’s now probably tripled or quadrupled in value. I’m definitely heeding your advice and I hope you find a suitable and affordable place soon!
I feel bad for the 79 year old man. We should do better as a country and take care of our seniors and children. Why don’t we have more affordable housing and build townhomes and tiny home villages.

@@pinkiesue849 Pick partners better. For those in unfortunate circumstances, I feel. But most aren't widows, they just picked a bad partner to procreate with
Those rent increases are just pure insanity. How are you going to have a functioning country when this many people forced to live near homelessness? All they build now are condos, so they can jack up the rent whenever they like. Live with your family until you can afford a home. No condo inbetween.
That you don't understand how markets work is kind of the root of your issues. Beverly Hills, kind of expensive rents and doing pretty well for themselves. NYC, Paris, Hong Kong, etc... all pretty pricey yet a lot of people live there and more would if they could afford it. You see the system we have is a kind of capitalism. People buy land and improve it in order to make a profit. People who can afford it pay for the convenience of those improvements and their standard of living is improved. Buyer gets the convenience of not taking a risk or doing the work needed. Seller gets the profit so they can afford an even better place to live. Paying for convenience can be expensive when there are a lot of people wanting that same convenience..As there are fewer and fewer people willing to take risks, invest and build new conveniences those people get higher and higher profits as the convenience seekers bid up the price. This works fine for the convenience seekers as long as they have enough money to out bid the next convenience seeker. When they can't they're forced to reduce their level of convenience consumption. It's sad for them when they reach that point...but not for the other convenience seeker now living in their old home.
And most of the Greedy landlords will have by next year high taxes, and they will be so behind in their Bill's, that I would like to see, how they will feel when the bank takes it. And they will be considered homeless. It's pure crime to raise the rent 100% another $ 2,000 thousand dollars up
@@MrWaterbugdesign It's funny that you say N.W.A. doesn't understand how markets work, yet in your analysis, you missed one huge piece to why prices are so high right now: lack of inventory. Specifically, shell companies are coming in and buying up all of the inventory (with all cash offers, sometimes 20% over asking price), thus reducing the amount of houses available to bid on. This then forces some people to rent and landlords know the market and know they can get away with charging what they are. What you're describing has been going on since the beginning of time and isn't the reason why prices are spiking the way they are. You're clueless, yet you're acting like you know what you're talking about! 😂🤣😂🤣
No, we aren't. This is not 2008, it's just the opposite. REITs have bought up millions of condos, apartment complexes and single family homes mostly entry level to rent. That has eaten up affordable housing for families wanting to buy a house. Latest from the National Real Estate Group is houses that families making $75k-$100K annually can afford ($200K-$300K mortgages) there is nationwide 1 available home in that price range for every 65 qualified buyers. Many builders went under after 2008 so scant new building since then. Now with supply shortages, retiring skilled craftsmen and increased labor costs affordable houses are just not being built.
No collapse. There nothing indicating a collapse at all. The market will cool off if builders can start keeping up with demand, but they cannot. Interest rate hikes can cool off the market, but they’d have to move high enough to price people out. There is a major supply issue, and inflation, and it’s not getting better, which will keep home prices on the rise. There will be no collapse or crash, unless the economy housing collapses, and in that case. Those banking on a collapse have no clue what they’re talking about.
There was/is a mass exodus from high taxed, crime ridden, big cities to Florida, Arizona, and TX... supply & demand is also a big factor here, not to mention some landlords trying to catch up the mortgages after the 2-year moratorium on rent without the same grace from banks on paying the mortgage 🤷🏾♀️
you are speaking facts JayT, they have triple dipped during the pandemic and then they claim that they have to pay rising cost of property taxes and nonpayees of rent during the pandemic but the renters were able to apply for the rental assistance and PPP or the other loan that they dont have to pay back so they got ample monies but they are now perpertrating a fraud and squeezing the middle class
Rent control discourages investing, which makes rentals scare. Then a black market opens up to where people sublet or rent illegally. Rent control has many drawbacks. You should research it to find out exactly what I mean. It’s good to understand that stuff.
@@shadowwolfkano and we all saw what happened to the Soviet Union. The problem is morality shouldn't govern something required, like housing. A "good landlord" is a bad capitalist. The capital incentive needs to be tempered by regulation to prevent this. Like surge prices during a state of emergency.
Most landlords wouldn't, i use to only deal with private owners to build trust. Now Zillow and every site are showing hundreds of listings owned by some very shitty shady real estate company. This is massive collaboration and it is heinous. But we'll see.

@@shadowwolfkano The question isn't whether people should have a home. The question is which home? Are people entitled to live in someone else's home? Since it would be immoral to rent to the highest bidder how do I pick which of the 100 people I should give this gift? By race? Gender? Kids? Disabilities? Sexual orientation? America has a lot of extremely inexpensive property. Cairo IL there are many homes for sale for about $20k. That's land and an actual house.
I payed off my mortgage in 2019 and I found nearly 3 grand a month to save and been saving every dime of it and keeping my debt low no credit card debt and no car payment just saving as much money as I can
Exactly! 💯💯💯
I think everyone should be focusing on buying a home, a condo, whatever you can afford and pay it off as fast as you can.
Some people honestly don’t have a family and even if they do, many of their family members are struggling to
Where were you when landlords robbed moratorium
It's pure crime to raise the rent 100% another $ 2,000 thousand dollars up
@@MrWaterbugdesign
It's funny that you say N.W.A. doesn't understand how markets work, yet in your analysis, you missed one huge piece to why prices are so high right now: lack of inventory.
The people who own the properties are artificially inflating the price. At this rate we are heading for another house collapse.

They need to pass a law were Landlords have to let all Senior Citizens over the age of 62 to live in their apartment for free. They could give the property owner a 10% reduction in property taxes and make the tenants under 62 pay 15% more in rent. This would be fair for everyone involved.

Although, there maybe shortages, this is also due in part to all of the people who did not pay rent/mortgage during the moratorium. Now the landlords are trying to recoup their losses. Many people could have paid rent, but did not-taking advantage of the situation without any recourse of how it might effect someone else in the future. Greed definitely has a snowball effect, and it is being witnessed now.

America's greed
Out of town investors are the root of this problem.
A big part of the problem are the property taxes on rental units. The state of Florida and its property tax laws are making the costs for investment properties to skyrocket.
And REITs have bought up affordable housing, single family homes, condos, apartment buildings for investments. Same in the UK, most housing is owned by buyers from other countries. Hedge Funds are taking control of housing.
And DeSantis is not being effective. What a weak response by DeSantis that it’s Biden’s fault. DeSantis doesn’t talk about new construction of affordable housing. Does he?

As far as price increases, set a state tax on all multi housing complexes, using the increase they forced on their renters. No raise in rent, no tax.
A income voucher could be given to renters to make up the difference.

@insomnia9999 You can. You would have to make sacrifices to make it happen.
Why should I feel bad that these people cant afford housing in South Florida? If on a fixed income maybe try Alabama, Mississippi, or West Virginia for cheap rent. S. Florida is prime real estate. It's like saying boo hoo I cant afford to live in Manhattan.
Not necessarily. This is happening all over the country now, not just places like Florida. He did say he had no issues affording to live there until recently. They raised his rent 3x in one year. He had lived there for decades and was able to afford it without any problems, until now. If it had always been 4k a month to rent there, I can see what you're saying but that's not the case here. I do feel badly for him, apparently he has no one left so it's just him now , at his age trying to find a place he can afford. And moving to another state that may be more affordable takes a lot of money, he doesn't that kind of money, plus he's disabled? Forget it.
Unfortunately it's supply and demand this has a whole lot to do with people fleeing states like California and New York where they are being taxed into poverty by the people they elected.
Bingo!
I'm in the exact same situation as the man in the video. I live in Florida and I have lived here for decades and I am disabled and I am on a small fixed income and the rents in my county skyrocketed well over my limited price range. And just like the man in the video, I feel optimistic yet quite stressed. I am worried. I have been making phone calls all over south Florida and I spend much of my day looking for something affordable, but I can't find anything. I have tried to think of all sorts of creative options and solutions, but I haven't come up with anything yet. Another issue I am facing is that my county hasn't offered Section 8 applications in years. when you call an automated message says, "Hello. we have no Section 8 vouchers at the moment. we are not offering applications at this time. Please do not leave a message." And then it automatically hangs up on you. So anyway, I am keeping my fingers crossed, but this will be quite a challenge. I've never faced this challenge in my decades of living in Florida. This is the first time I can't afford even half of the rent for a small studio apartment. I sure don't want to live out of my car, but you gotta do what you gotta do, I guess.
If you come to Arkansas you can get an entire house for about $1,000.. I'm not joking.. because I am in Arkansas.. that's just a out in the countryside
