Honestly, one of the best reviews comparing the Sire with a classic Fender Bass. No better way for us to be able to hear difference. If you're using the bass to record and go through a DI Box, you can make EQ adjustments or do EQ on the DAW to change the tone. If you're live, you can go through a Bass pedal and use EQ to find the ideal sound. You did great Obrad, thank you!
I really like how he shows the different tone settings and plays the exact same bass lines on both basses….Drives me nuts when dudes compare basses and play totally different bass lines … makes it so hard to compare!!
The fact that you tested these by getting the Led out makes my respect for this video go up 10 fold. That tone you achieved with the Sire on Dazed was incredibly accurate. I really think I need to add one of these to the collection. And you just can't beat them for the price.
The V5 is amazing build, just a dream and incredible to play... under 500 Dollars..if you want, change the pickups to Area J .DiMarzio...to get near to the Fender 77... or.perhaps better..You can because the bones and build quality is outstanding for the price...Fender create this unique 70 sound .. amazing...Fabuloso !! Thank you for the soundcheck
No one would know how to distinguish them in a blind test, wonderful work Obrad! Sire did an amazing job with these basses. I have the 5-string v5 and it doesn't need any upgrade, it never goes out of tune and the pickups sound with an impressive mojo and growl!
@@Moleskineman ... the Sire sound is brilliant for the price, very high value for money BUT the difference is very noticeable. If you can't distinguish it then tough luck. And yes, I own a '78 Jazz Bass.
According to 'Reverb' a 77 Jazz goes for around 2750 to 5000 dollars. The Sire is 500 dollars. I have the Sire and a Fender Flea, and the pickups in the Sire are definitely a bit anemic .... but can easily be replaced. And it plays like a dream.
even then that can be an appeal to amplification, cabinets, or pre-amp without messing with the voicing of the instrument. My Sire U5 is on the quiet side, for me I just found I had to eq it differently.
You can't judge the true sound of either bass from what you just watched and heard because 1. they both have different strings ( which plays a major factor in the sound ) 2. age of instrument 3. amplication and eq etc... so this test is not really one you should base your decision by.
Excellent video and great playing! I own both basses and feel you did a great job showing them accurately. The Fender sounds richer, but for the money, the Sire is hands down the value for the money! I have basses that cost over $5k, but I proudly also own 4 Sire basses (V7 Vintage, P7, M7, & D5).
Hey man! Im looking for a new bass and I’m interested in Sire but I don’t really need the preamp most of them get built with. Volume and tone is enough for me really, the problem that I’m facing is the question: are the cheaper passive Sire basses from the same quality as the more expensive ones and are you really paying for the preamp if you buy a more expensive one?
ive been using fenders for years i have a japan fender marcus bass i love it i needed a 5 string so i bought a sire v3 i got it really cheap its a mahagony body i left the stock pre amp and i had these old alembic jazz pick ups oh my god does the sire sound killer and as far as craftsmanship the sires are made well ans honestly it didnt sound bad stock for what you pay.anyway sires are well made and to pay 300 for a new 5 string active etc plus it played great right out of the box is it a fender no but they are great basses ive only been playing 42 years lolol my first bass was nowhere as good as a sire thanks for the video bro!!!!
The difference that the swapped-out bridge makes over the stock one on the Fender is enormous... I did this with my Fender Jazz bass, I swapped it with a BadAss.., it was a different planet... I would argue this is not a fair comparison... I would wager if you put the original Fender bridge back on, then did the test against the Sire would win hands down.. Just my opinion..😉
Really great comparison. The Sire V5 on its own sounds really impressive on most of the clips I have watched. But Side by Side the Fender wins. The difference to me is surprisingly drastic. I don't know if its the aged wood of the Fender. You might have an exceptionally good one. Or your Sire might not be one of the better ones. I bought a V7 vintage and even though the UA-cam clips sounded great, mine was set up poorly when I got it and it sounded pretty lifeless. It took some some time and some modding before it came to life.
Tonewise both are nice. More mids on the 77, more scoop/bass on the Sire. But my ears tell me you are way more confident on the 77. Playing juicier licks and with more precision.
Nice job! However, I would have really enjoyed this comparison even more if both basses were strung with the same exact strings. Factory strings rarely sound as good as a fresh set, let alone a higher quality set. While I don’t know what Sire ships with, they’re likely a relatively low cost string. All that said, I think the Sire holds its own against the Fender quite well, especially when you factor in price point.
Federazione Italiana, Maldini, Baresi, Costacurta, Nesta, Cannavaro and Sire👍🙂🤘Sire got more middle range so its louder than Fender, and price of the Sire is so fantastic for the quality and sound.
The J bass has a distinct advantage w/the Kickass bridge. I put one on my '75 P bass and it never sounded better or clearer. I also put one on my 2021 Squire Paranormal '54 J bass and it too ROCKS. The Sire needs a pickup and bridge upgrade IMHO. I also just purchased a Sire V5 5 string fretless and am waiting for its mfg.
Thanks for the comment, it's appreciated. However, I have a completely different opinion about the kickass bridge or any other "massive" bridges. I think that sustain (often associated with massive bridges) is an overrated fictional thing. On my basses, I always replaced massive bridges with vintage ones 🙂.
I believe the newer Sire pickups have been upgraded as my new V5 sounds some better than this one a little more dynamic and less muffled. Although this sound was greatly influenced by whatever amp he’s using and how it was EQ’d, great playing by the way. For the $ Sire all the way a better value!👏👍
I’d have to go with that Jazz!! However the price you can not beat the sire . And let’s not forget that the sire was made for beginner players who do not want or have the funds to go big on a bass yet. I love that black and maple!!! With the tone at 100% on the sire it definitely has more comparable fender tone then with the tone off,
I listened to the samples without watching the videos. It was like hearing the same thing twice and any small difference between can be fixed with eq. That difference is not worth 1000+ dollars for sure.
If the sire feels good to play, switch out the pickups with, say, fender cs 60's, or nordstrand j type. On the sire, i truly think its the preamp choking the tone- marcus had his j bass modded with a bartolini preamp.
Fender obviously sounds better but the sire does a great job. Fully open A lot of it is in the body of the note and I wonder how much a high mass bridge would affect that and same strings. It's never going to get all the way there but it would be a bit closer. I love my sire. I have the albridge on my 4 string v5 but it gave it a weird sound in the top end I didn't really like because of the material it's made of I think. I want to try the kickass bridge on my 5 string v5 when it comes in.
Nice comparison, but let’s not forget although they look alike they are different instruments with different hardware. Nevertheless it’s a good video. It’s only not complete in my opinion: the instruments have way more tone options than shown here.

The fender has more of a character and more "ping".
