Why Spain and Germany Are Ganging Up in the EU 0305am 22.9.24 indeed. i get it. Habsburgian historical links... suggest the Uk is better off out of it, anyway. those issues besetting the little englander are also besetting those peoples who have conjoined to form the EU.... and they formed that clique to assuage such woes... ummmmmmmmmmmm... it's a silly place. though what to do - as we have Farage on his ego trip vs EU politicians so out of touch that you would think they lived in regions totally unconnected to europe...

Spain is a good ally throughout the campaign if you are a catholic country in Europe. If you play in Germany/England they help you control France, if you are France and you have an alliance with Spain you can do whatever you want, give them Portugal and North Africa to then have a PU with free colonies. Unless they are stupidly efficient (and I have only seen the AI do it once) they will never expand into Europe.

France has keep Spain separated of many EU systems for decades to undermine it in the EU. It's good that they're joining with Germany because Frances it's practically keeping the union hostage and they're technically responsible for the debacle on North Africa and the migration crisis.

This has nothing to do with Spain. It's all about Algeria. Algerians are the largest foreign community in France and making the EU more dependent on Algerian gas would give more leverage to Algeria towards France.

France doesn't have anything against Spain. Sure, France doesn't like the idea of Spain breaking their high-speed train and energy monopoly and hence oppose every single project in these two areas. That’s not undermining Spain, is just competing against Spain. Spain has the political and economic power to compete with France as well, which is what they're doing. However, this video seems to suggest that Spain and France are against each other or something... that's not true at all and France is obviously a much closer ally of Spain than Germany could ever be.
French governments have been much better than German governments at protecting the EU. France opposed European dependency on the USA, whereas Germany embraced it - now we don’t know whether the USA would defend us if it came to that, and the enemies of the USA have become our enemies as well. What has China do to Europe? Why is Germany defending Israel? France also knows that allowing Spain to export Algerian gas to the rest of Europe would simply allow Algeria to manipulate Europe, just like Russia did. France has always encouraged European self-reliance in basically all areas - economy, military, energy, etc. All the actions they've taken for the last 7 decades have been in this direction. That's why I think France is a much better and trustworthy ally than Germany could ever be. No matter the government, they're predictable and will always defend EU values. You know what policies they'll support and what ideas they'll reject even before they've been voted on.
Germany, on the other hand, has proven to be a very self-interested country, which takes advantage of the rest of the EU and turns their back on the rest of us when it suits them. They were the ones that wanted to buy Russian gas instead of French nuclear energy, they were the ones blaming Greece, Spain and Italy for the Euro crisis, they are the ones now closing their borders, when they were the ones letting millions of people inside the EU 10 years ago. They blame the EU for all their problems, when they're the ones that have the most political power to change it

Aren't you focus on your own interest when asking to make that pipeline in France? Should we shoot a bullet in our own feet for the sake of your interest? So we should make a pipeline, that will cut France in two, or go under water by the littoral of France, we should go agaisnt the agenda for decarbonation, we shoul dhurt our energy sector, so that you can export your gas? I just don't see the part were it benefits to us.
I understand that spain has plenty of gas and that they want to export it to its neighbors but you should ask yourselves, how can you make it so it also benefits to France, the place were you want to build that pipeline.

Sir Humphrey Appleby: Minister, Britain has had the same foreign policy objective for at least the last 500 years: to create a disunited Europe. In that cause we have fought with the Dutch against the Spanish, with the Germans against the French, with the French and Italians against the Germans, and with the French against the Germans and Italians. Divide and rule, you see. Why should we change now, when it's worked so well?
James Hacker: That's all ancient history, surely.
Sir Humphrey Appleby: Yes, and current policy. We had to break the whole thing up, so we had to get inside. We tried to break it up from the outside, but that wouldn't work. Now that we're inside we can make a complete pig's breakfast of the whole thing: set the Germans against the French, the French against the Italians, the Italians against the Dutch. The Foreign Office is terribly pleased; it's just like old times.
James Hacker: Surely we're all committed to the European ideal.
    Sir Humphrey Appleby: Really, Minister.
    [laughs]
James Hacker: If not, why are we pushing for an increase in the membership?
Sir Humphrey Appleby: Well, for the same reason. It's just like the United Nations, in fact. The more members it has, the more arguments it can stir up. The more futile and impotent it becomes.
    James Hacker: What appalling cynicism.

The Treaty of Paris was signed on 18 April 1951.

if you had learned anything from the german-russian gas debacle then that we should diversify our energy dependencies.
I for my part rather have addtional energy input via spain than not. Especially as it recently seems that french colonial africa will sever its ties with mainland france overtime. Which means it will become harder to get hands on cheap fuel for the reactors. Better diversify your risks.
Blocking spain from becoming an energy supplier to the EU for decades and then being salty if in times of (energy) troubles people go around your back... *pikachu face*
Gee, i wonder why the french did that in the first place. Maybe because the french nuclear program only generates more profits if they sell energy to their neighbours? Was that also the reason why france is such a staunch supporter of energy transition? Less competitions? Or why france is crying for strategic autonomy in NATO and focus shift to africa? who knows.
But i think its time to face reality: If you play foul with your buddies you will get left out of group activities.

Because of this he is seen as weak, soft, a "traitor", etc. But most of his domestic policies on the economy, energy, etc are popular, but they get overshadow by what i describes above.
